Race 1 – FOODWORKS/MITRE 10 CLASS B HCP - 900M:
DANCE DUDE – Was found to have had a small laceration on its off hind and underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was subsequently passed fit to start by the veterinary surgeon. Stable representative J. Lennon was questioned in regards to the improved performance and stated that the gelding had been working well and that connections expected an improved performance in today’s event. When further questioned it was established that after Dance Dude’s most recent run, after undergoing a scope and further blood testing, the gelding had been suffering from the beginnings of a chest infection. Stewards subsequently reprimanded trainer S. Lennon for failing to notify stewards of a condition that may have affected the horse’s performance.
DR HOUSE – Began awkwardly.
RUN WINDRED – Hung out rounding the home turn.
Race 2 – WILSHIRE & CO QTIS MAIDEN PLATE - 1400M:
GANADO EXPRESS – Began awkwardly, made contact with the barrier partition and became momentarily unbalanced. Tightened for room between runners shortly after the start.
ROYALE ‘N’ READY – Was slow to begin.
RUN WINDRED – Hung out rounding the home turn.
DESTINY CREEK – Hung out rounding the home turn.
OLE PABLO – Hung out rounding the home turn.
NATURAL WARRIOR – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
Race 3 – DON MORRIS MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE 3 Y.O & UP – 1200M:
Correct weight was delayed to afford riders, M. Kai (Cadalora) and G. Leung (Haveaguess), which dead heated for first the opportunity to view the judges print. After viewing the print, both riders were satisfied with the judges numbers semaphored.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards considered an application from the connections of OLE PABLO to have that horse declared a non-runner. Stewards took evidence from the connections of Ole Pablo, the starter and also the available video footage of the start. After considering all the evidence stewards found that the barriers of Ole Pablo were to slow to open and therefore denied Ole Pablo a fair start and therefore declared Ole Pablo a non-runner. On correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on Ole Pablo be refunded in full with the following deductions:
10c in the dollar for the win #1
14c in the dollar for the place of winner #1
10c in the dollar for the win #4
11c in the dollar for the place of winner #4
12c in the dollar for the place #7
ELEGIES – When questioned as to the tactics adopted in the early stages of the event, apprentice J. Greacen, the rider of Elegies stated that her instructions were to obtain a position with cover, however after being unable to muster early speed, lost significant ground and settled back further than anticipated.
SNIPPIN’ TRISH – Began awkwardly.
HAVEAGUESS – Began awkwardly.
HOLLA LEGS – Raced wide without cover throughout.
LOOK I’M DANCING – When questioned in regards to the seemingly disappointing performance, apprentice M. Schrapel, the rider of Look I’m Dancing, stated that the mare was slow to muster early speed and was unable to obtain a forward position as instructed and subsequently settled back further than anticipated. He added that after racing keenly near the 800m, the horse improved onto heels and had to be restrained. M. Schrapel further added that the mare did not handle the tight turning track, however when the mare straightened it finished strongly over the concluding stages.
Race 4 – JEFF HANNAFORD TEXAS CUP OPEN HCP – 1200M:
SEAZA – Raced wide throughout.
INDUBIOUS – Raced wide throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn. Apprentice M. Schrapel reported to stewards that the gelding did not handle the tight turning track and would be better suited to races over further ground.
RATTLE ‘N’ RUN – Improved onto heels near the 400m and was restrained.
Race 5 – MICK MCGRATH BMK 60 HCP – 1200M:
Stewards accepted the explanation in regards to the late rider declaration of Palpitate (S. Apthorpe).
HELL’S KITCHEN – Slow into stride and lost considerable ground.
ON ICE NOW – Laid out rounding the home turn.
SOLO SOPRANO – Made the home turn wide.
