GENERAL
Following a track inspection after arriving on-course, stewards upgraded the track rating to a FIRM 2.
After being stood down due to illness at the Rockhampton meeting yesterday, Jockey Raul Silvera Olivera was examined by the on-course QAS Officers and was cleared to take his riding engagements at today’s meeting.
Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 3. Natalea Summers – +1kg
RACE 1: COOPER MCCULLOUGH Maiden Plate (1075m)
CRAIGLEA OREO – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey Tasha Chambers stated that being trapped wide in the early and middle stages proved detrimental in CRAIGLEA OREO’s overall chances. Jockey Chambers added that when asked for an effort in the home straight the gelding responded and went to the line positively. Jockey Chambers further added that the gelding may be better suited racing over further distances.
FLAWLESS AMBITION – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
NAUGHTYNODDY – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey Raul Silvera Olivera stated that NAUGHTYNODDY did not handle the firm track conditions and in his opinion believes that the gelding may also require racing over further distances.
DENMAN AVENUE – Overraced in the early stages. Had to restrain from heels near the 900m when overracing. Raced wide from the 600m.
POPPY’S PRIDE – Raced wide throughout. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
ADDICTIVE PRINCESS – Was fractious in the barriers prior to the start.
SECRET CAVIAR – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Inclined to lay inwards entering the home straight and had to steady and shift outwards to avoid the heels of POPPY’S PRIDE near the 200m.
RACE 2: FIRST GRADE CONTRACT MAINTENANCE BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (1075m)
DULCET (NZ) – Slow to begin. Shifted in passing the 100m to obtain clear racing room when HOLY CROWN laid inwards.
TRANSCELTIC – Raced keenly in the early stages.
GENERAL WOLFFE – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
TAHKIAN BUBBLES – Slow into stride. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
HOLY CROWN – Switched outwards across the heels of TRANSCELTIC near the 400m.
Following the running of this race, apprentice Jaimee-Lee Devine was examined by the on-course QAS officers after experiencing light-headiness symptoms. Subsequently, apprentice Devine was stood down from her remaining engagements before being treated by the QAS officers. Apprentice Devine was then transported to the Biloela Hospital for further treatment. Apprentice Devine was advised that she would require a medical clearance prior to resuming race riding. Due to apprentice Devine beginning indisposed, any actions regarding her remaining engagements were made as per the steward’s race day summary.
RACE 3: BILOELA HOTEL OPEN Handicap (1200m)
MEDIA EMPIRE – Shifted outwards on jumping, bumping with INVICTUS LAD.
CAPTAIN FOX – Was reluctant to load prior to the start.
INVICTUS LAD – Began awkwardly and shifted inwards, bumping with MEDIA EMPIRE. Raced wide in the early stages. Inclined to hang out rounding the home turn near the 900m. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey Adam Spinks stated that INVICTUS LAD raced flat throughout the event and did not handle backing up from its previous start. Trainer Glenda Bell concurred with jockey Spinks’ comments and advised that it would be the stables intention to possibly send the gelding for a freshen up prior to resuming racing.
IMAGINE THAT – After apprentice Jamiee-lee Devine was stood down from her remaining riding engagements by the QAS Officers, stewards heard submissions from trainer Jason Devine regarding jockey Natalea Summers being the replacement rider. Following, as at the time of acceptances, a 1kg overweight was added to the mare to allow apprentice Devine to ride at her minimum riding weight, therefore not claiming any apprentice allowance, stewards then acceded to the request of trainer Devine and permitted jockey Summers to be the replacement rider at the advertised weight of 56kg. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
RACE 4: ACCOUNTING & YOU QTIS BENCHMARK 50 Handicap (1200m)
CINDERELLA MAN – Was declared a late scratching at 2:39pm by the order of stewards due to no other available rider following apprentice Devine being indisposed.
DEEP FURY – Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Had to steady for a stride near the 400m when AZURE DE LAGO hung inwards despite the efforts of its rider.
AIN’T NOBODY – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
EDWARDS – Inclined to lay inwards rounding the home turn. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice Amie Meissner stated that her mount felt fine throughout, however did not handle the quick tempo set by the leader in the early stages. Apprentice Meissner added that EDWARDS may not have also handled the firmer track conditions in today’s event.
LYNRIC LASS – Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey Raul Silvera Olivera stated that it was his intentions to attempt be closer to the speed in today’s event, however LYNRIC LASS failed to respond to his riding urges at any stage and went to the line some what disappointingly.
CRAIGLEA MERIDA – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide until obtaining a lead position near the 900m. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance, trainer Krystle Johnson stated that CRAIGLEA MERIDA had been working well in the lead up to today’s event and was expecting the forward showing as the mare was competing over its preferred racing distance.
GETTING’ LIPPY – Raced wide throughout.
AZURE DE LAGO – Raced keenly in the early stages. Hung in rounding the home turn despite the efforts of its rider. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey Natalea Summers was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(b) for failing to ride her mount out fully to the finish for the final strides. When determining penalty, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that her actions cost her mount 2nd place.
RACE 5: STAR PRECISION ELECTRICAL RATINGS BAND 0-55 Handicap (1400m)
ALL BUSINESS (NZ) – Was declared a late scratching at 2:39pm by the order of stewards due to no other available rider following apprentice Jaimee-Lee Devine being indisposed.
KIRELLA SHORES – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide in the early stages.
NATIVE BEE – Shifted inwards on jumping, impeding BUGDEN. Raced wide throughout. Bumped by BUGDEN near the 1300m when that runner shifted outwards.
MR GREY – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
BUGDEN – Impeded on jumping by NATIVE BEEN which shifted inwards, and as a result was slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Near the 1300m shifted outwards and bumped NATIVE BEE. Inclined to lay outwards rounding the home turn. Jockey Raul Silvera Olivera was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(6)(b) for using his whip above shoulder height.
VILLANDRY – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
MISS TEAK – Overraced in the early stages.
