GENERAL

Following a track inspection conducted by stewards upon arrival on course, the track was upgraded to a FIRM 2.

RACE 1: BILOELA BOBCATS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (800 M)

Due to the automated starting system failing at the first attempt, the start was then activated manually. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards viewed the replays of the start to ensure the manual start did not materially affect the chances of any runner. As stewards could not identify any such occurrence to any runner, correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings.

KENNY THE BAKER – Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay outwards rounding the home turn.

FIGO – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

BELLAH'S HOPE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Upon returning to scale, jockey C Taylor reported that shortly after entering the home straight, his saddle had shifted which placed him at a disadvantage fully testing his mount out over the final stages.

SAINT ANNS – Shortly after the start was impeded by MAKE IT BETTER which was carried outwards by KAMALA. Raced keenly in the early stages. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.

SHE'S GOT IT – Began awkwardly and bounded at the start. Raced wide throughout. Near the 150m when looking to obtain a run to the outside of KAMALA, was impeded and had to steady when that runner shifted outwards. Apprentice A Heinrich was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Close to the finish, was placed in restricted room by KAMALA, which shifted outwards further.

EMBEZZLES – Stewards reminded jockey R Silvera Olivera to ensure he does not use his whip in a motion which has his elbow raised above shoulder height.

MAKE IT BETTER – Trainer D Johnston was reprimanded under the provisions of LR67(1) for the late rider declaration of apprentice M Apel. In determining penalty, stewards considered trainer Johnston’s record in relation to the rule, which indicated no breaches of a similar nature in a number of years. Slow into stride. Shortly after the start was impeded by KAMALA, which shifted outwards, and as a result was carried out and impeded SAINT ANNS. Inclined to lay inwards rounding the home turn. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.

MILITARY GIRL – Was fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.

CRAIGLEA MONNIE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

JUST THE TWO OF US – Raced wide throughout.

KAMALA – Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, shifted outwards and impeded MAKE IT BETTER, carrying that runner outwards, which impeded SAINT ANNS. Raced wide throughout. Shifted outwards when placed under pressure in the home straight and near the 150m, impeded SHE’S GOT IT, then shifted outwards again close to the finish, placing SHE’S GOT IT in restricted room.

NICCONORI – Bumped with KEYBOARD on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Stewards questioned apprentice J L Devine, with the assistance of jockey H Richardson, as to whether in the home straight she had the opportunity to attempt to obtain a run to the outside of VICTORY’S GHOST, rather than persist for a run to the inside of that runner. Apprentice Devine stated that upon entering the home straight VICTORY’S GHOST had shifted outwards marginally and that she was of the view, that runner would continue to shift outwards which would allow her to obtain a run to the inside of VICTORY’S GHOST. She further added that her mount had failed to quicken as necessary to obtain the run on the inside and at a point near the 100m VICTORY’S GHOST had shifted inwards resulting in her decision to switch to the outside to maintain clear racing room. After considering the evidence in it’s entirety stewards could not be satisfied that the tactics adopted were so unreasonable in the circumstances as to warrant a charge and noted Ms Devine’s comments.

VICTORY'S GHOST – Near the 500m, elected to shift wider in an attempt to improve. Inclined to lay outwards when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.

RACE 3: BETTA HOME LIVING & ELECTRICAL OPEN HANDICAP (1075 M)

Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards reviewed the available replays of the start as it was noted that IMAGINE THAT’s barrier had opened fractionally earlier than the remainder of the field. It was determined that the mare had struck the front of the barriers momentarily prior to the start being effected and as a result began awkwardly and was slow to begin. Stewards were satisfied that IMAGINE THAT had not gained an advantage due to this occurrence and subsequently declared correct weight on the judges numbers. Following the event the barriers were tested on a number of occasions with no issues being identified.

KA BLING – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Near the 900m, was carried outwards by GROWL, which was carried out by another runner, and bumped the hindquarters of IMAGINE THAT. Apprentice A Heinrich pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she used her whip on 11 occasions prior to the 100m, 16 times in total. Apprentice Heinrich’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days, with the suspension commencing midnight 7th March 2026 and to conclude midnight 18th March 2026. CAPTAIN FOX – Near the 900m, hung outwards despite the efforts of it’s rider and placed GROWL in restricted room and carried that runner wider on the track. Trainer P Fleming was advised that a warning would be placed on CAPTAIN FOX’s record for its racing manners.

CORKSCREW (NZ) – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey A Spinks pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, 16 times in total. Jockey Spinks’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days, with the suspension commencing midnight 2nd March 2026 and to conclude midnight 11th March 2026. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey W Satherley reported that he was not overly disappointed in the performance, stating PANIGALE is better suited racing over further distances. However, jockey Satherley added that the gelding may not have handled the back up from its previous start at Rockhampton on the 24th of February, which may have been a factor in its overall performance. Trainer J Morgan concurred with jockey Satherley’s comments, also stating that the gelding is better suited to racing over further distances. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Jockey Satherley was also reminded of his obligations in being mindful of his whip use when out of contention.

PULL THE CATCH – Hampered at the start by BOLLA BOLLA BABE which shifted in, and TARA I AM which shifted out. Bumped by HONOURBEFORE GLORY near the 700m when that runner shifted inwards whilst racing ungenerously. Raced wide throughout.

BOLLA BOLLA BABE – Shifted inwards at the start, hampering PULL THE CATCH. Shortly after the start, was tightened between PULL THE CATCH and CARRARA KING (apprentice C Francis), which shifted inwards, and as a result had to check and lose its rightful run. Apprentice C Francis pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding in that shortly after the start she failed to make sufficient effort in preventing her mount from shifting inwards, tightening BOLLA BOLLA BABE which had to check and lose its rightful running. Apprentice Francis’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 days, with the suspension commencing midnight 7th of March 2026 and to conclude midnight 13th March 2026. In determining penalty, stewards took into account the QRIC careless riding template, considered the carelessness to be in the low range, and apprentice Francis’ guilty plea and her previous record, which indicated no prior careless riding suspension in the previous 12 months. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

TARA I AM – Shifted outwards at the start, hampering PULL THE CATCH.
