SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT: Townsville Turf Club 19th January 2006

Jockey W. Kenning was fined $50 under A.R. 118 for leaving the course without permission.

LATE RIDING CHANGES:

When Jockeys D. Crossland and P. Cullen, and Apprentice B. Young were indisposed, the following substitutions were made: Race 1: BALLY BUCKSHOT, I. Toward replaced D. Race 1: TXT The Editor Class 5 Handicap: Distance - 1200m
1st - ZOZULINA 2nd - OUT TO LUNCH 3rd - RUSTIC RAMBLER 4th – SERIOUS HERO

On jumping OUT TO LUNCH (N. Day) shifted out, taking BOUNTY HUNTER (A. Cox) out onto the hindquarters of ZOZULINA (G. Kliese) and resulting in BOUNTY HUNTER having to be eased and losing ground.

BALLY BUCKSHOT (I. Toward) began awkwardly.

Near the 1000 metres RAIN KING (J. Felix) was eased to avoid the heels of OUT TO LUNCH (N. Day).

Close to the winning post RAIN KING (J. Felix) shifted in and momentarily inconvenienced BALLY BUCKSHOT (I. Toward).

Race 2: The North’s Own Paper QTIS 3-Year-Old Maiden Handicap: Distance - 1200m
1st - SLUGGER 2nd - GREAT ROMANCE 3rd - SIRCAY 4th - SUZILAP

Jockey J. Stopps was severely admonished for accepting dual engagements for IT’S QUITE SIMPLE and BARRON HUNTER. G. Farrer was substituted as the rider of BARRON HUNTER.

The start of the race was delayed when the ambulance officers were required to attend to a licensee who had been injured in the enclosure.

At the start SLUGGER (Apprentice P. Edwards), MAKE MUSIC (N. Day) and SUZILAP (I. Toward) were hampered when crowded for room between GREAT ROMANCE (G. Kliese), which shifted out, and IT’S QUITE SIMPLE (J. Stopps).

Near the 1000 metres BARRON HUNTER (G. Farrer) commenced to lay in.

Leaving the 1000 metres SUZILAP (I. Toward) hung out and was eased away from the heels of another runner.

On the home turn BARRON HUNTER (G. Farrer) laid out across the heels of FAIR PHANESSA (J. Felix). Shortly afterwards SHYFLYA (A. Cox) ran up onto the heels of BARRON HUNTER and was eased.

Rounding the home turn YABIG SISSY (S. Watkin) laid out, taking SLUGGER (Apprentice P. Edwards) wider.

FAIR PHANESSA (J. Felix) raced wide throughout.

When questioned about the poor performance of MAKE MUSIC Jockey N. Day explained that after being hampered at the start the gelding enjoyed a comfortable run until the 500 metres but thereafter failed to run on and was disappointing. Trainer Ms O. Cairns informed stewards that the gelding will now be spelled.

Race 3: Regular Readers Club Maiden Plate: Distance - 1300m
1st - ESTELITO 2nd - BURMARRAD 3rd - GOLD ALI 4th- RUHLMANN

Leaving the 800 metres RUHLMANN (N. Day), which had been caught wide, was shifted in, commenced to overrace, and near the 650 metres raced up onto the heels of LADY STRAVARI (D. Green) and commenced to race ungenerously.

Near the 450 metres BURMARRAD (F. Edwards) commenced to overrace and was steadied away from the heels of SLUGGER (Apprentice P. Edwards).

Race 4: About Town Class 3 Handicap: Distance - 1630m
1st - LINK HOGTHROB 2nd - TIARA ZIP 3rd - TOOBANNA 4th- BATTLE CREEK

Rounding the home turn TIARA ZIP (A. Cox) was eased away from the heels of MOMENT OF TIME (D. Green).

Race 5: Carsguide.com.au Class 1 Handicap (1st Div.): Distance - 1000m
1st - MOD CHICK 2nd - EUSTON FLYER 3rd - SIR TOFF 4th- ZIPSNIP

BLACK WATTLE (J. Stopps) was slow to get into stride.

Near the 700 metres CONNY CONCRETIA (Apprentice C. McCallum) shifted in, placing ZIPSNIP (N. Day) in restricted room and obliging that horse to be steadied. Apprentice McCallum was advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount.

At the 350 metres RANSOM BLUES (G. Kliese) shifted out obliging CONNY CONCRETIA (Apprentice C. McCallum) to race wider.

At about the 650 metres GALAXY RANGER (Apprentice P. Edwards) brushed with HILLY (S. Watkin), then when marginally tightened by EUSTON FLYER (D. Green) shifted out abruptly, taking PRESTO PRESTO (G. Farrer) extremely wide on the track.

Race 6: Investor Class 1 Handicap (2nd Div.): Distance - 1000m
1st - WAMPUM 2nd - SHUFTA GOULLA 3rd - REGAL WARIOR 4th-
BUKA GOY

Trainer Ms V. McIver was fined $50 under L.R. 42(2) for presenting MS FUNKYCOLEMADINA with other than its approved gear.

The start was delayed when MS FUNKYCOLEMADINA (Apprentice D. Ballard) proved extremely difficult to load into the barriers. Trainer Ms V. McIver was advised that a warning had been placed on the mare’s barrier manners and that should it perform in a similar manner, the horse will be barred to an official barrier trial.

RUDY NED (G. Farrer) and BUKA BOY (A. Cox) came together at the start.

Shortly after the start SHUFTA GOULLA (Apprentice C. Pay) and BANK FEE (J. Felix) brushed.

Apprentice C. Pay, the rider of SHUFTA GOULLA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a), in that near the 200 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of MS FUNKYCOLEMADINA (Apprentice D. Ballard), which was checked and lost its position. Apprentice Pay was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Saturday, 4th February 2006, up to and including 14th February 2006 (7 Qld meetings).

In the straight Jockey J. Stopps, the rider of WAMPUM, dropped his whip.

Race 7: Townsville Bulletin Open Handicap: Distance - 1400m
1st - MY SALADDIN 2nd - EAGLE REIGN 3rd - CARBON GOLD 4th-
REGULUS

Upon straightening ALWYN STREET (G. Kliese) shifted in and tightened QUESTWIN (Apprentice D. Ballard), which had to be steadied. G. Kliese was advised to exercise more care.

In the straight PLUMS (G. Cullen) broke down and was retired from the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had sustained a ruptured suspensory ligament.

Race 8: Savvy Class 2 Handicap: Distance - 1300m
1st - DON RAPIDEZ 2nd - A YEN TO WIN 3rd - TOPLAYER 4th-
WINAQUA

In the early and middle stages SPECJET (D. Green) raced wide.

Over the concluding stages SEADOG (J. Felix) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

Race 9: Talk Of the North Class 3 Handicap: Distance - 1000m
1st - CRAFTY’S BROTHER 2nd - ROSIE’S BOY 3rd - VONDALE 4th - HAIYAKU

CRAFTY’S BROTHER (G. Kliese) shifted out at the start and inconvenienced SPECKLES (J. Felix).

On jumping ELLENBOROUGH (G. Cullen) shifted out and hampered REGAL RANGER (I. Toward).

Near the 650 metres VONDALE (G. Farrier was steadied away from the heels of CRAFTY’S BROTHER (G. Kliese).


ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED AND RANDOM ANALYTICAL SAMPLES WERE TAKEN FROM THE FOLLOWING HORSES: RACE 1, DONELEY’S RUN; HAIYAKU; OUT TO LUNCH.
