Race 1: - Harvey Norman Bedding Townsville Maiden Handicap – 1400 metres
1st - HILTON MISS 2nd - WHISPERS 3rd - DRAGON HART 4th - ADIZERO
CASINOJEAN - Stewards accepted the reason tendered by trainer E. Sewell for the late notification of Jockey S. Wilson as the rider of the mare.
STAR READER – Was slow to begin.
SILVER BOWS – Was slow to begin.
SAVAGE LAND - After being crossed in the early stages was inclined to race keenly with its head up.
ROUND THE CORNER – Held up and unable to obtain clear running in the early part of the home straight.
WHISPERS - On returning to scale the rider reported that his mount was inclined to race greenly under pressure in the straight.
VEGAS CLUB - Raced wide throughout.
Race 2: - Ritzy Ritzco Homes Townsville Class 3 Plate – 1630 metres
1st – BLU AXIS 2nd – PACHAMAMA 3rd - FIRMITAS 4th – JAMALKA
FIRMITAS – Shifted out abruptly shortly after the start. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormalities.
FOUR JAYS – Hampered shortly after the start. Rider reported that throughout the early and middle stages his mount, which was stepping up 400 metres in distance today, pulled hard and refused to settle.
TETE DE SEAU – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
JAMALKA - Blundered near the 200 metres. When questioned regarding her riding of JAMALKA, App. Wiseman explained that she had been instructed to ride the mare back in the field, in accordance with its established racing pattern. She said that after beginning well and when the early tempo of the race was moderate, the mare began to race keenly and that approaching the 700 metres, rather than restrain her mount she allowed it to stride forward and assume the lead. She added that in her opinion the addition of blinkers to the mare’s approved gear may have been detrimental to its performance and that she had recommended to connections that they be removed from the horse’s gear for its next race start.
Race 3: - Ritzco QTIS 3YO Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – JUST LUCKY 2nd – ALPINE GOLD 3rd - IN HIS ELEMENT 4th – MODEL TO EXCEED
RICHIE ROCKET - Bucked shortly after the start and took no competitive part in the event. Trainer J. Manzelmann was told that the gelding will have to perform satisfactorily in a trial under full race day pressure before being permitted to race again. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
MODEL TO EXCEED - Was slow to begin. Held up and unable to obtain clear running in the early part of the home straight.
LOVE YA STYLE – Joining the course proper near the 700 metres had to be steadied to avoid heels.
JUST LUCKY – Passing the 300 metres shifted out and bumped another runner.
MORE NORTHERLY – Bumped by another runner passing the 300 metres.
Race 4: – Joe Joe Ritzco BenchMark 70 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – VIA CON DIOS 2nd – TOUCH OF ELEGANCE 3rd – BESIEGED 4th – KISS ME QUICK
VIA CON DIOS - On returning to scale Jockey P. Cullen reported that his mount was inclined to lay out from the 500 metres.
TOUCH OF ELEGANCE - Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.
Race 5: – Ritzco Homes Builders Townsville Open Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – MIN MIN MAN 2nd – BOOM SHA LA 3rd – GENERAL RIPPA 4th – STARLISTIC
STARLISTIC - Buffeted at the start and raced keenly in the early stages.
EUREKA DUBAI - On returning to scale the rider reported that his mount travelled comfortably throughout, however near the 700 metres blundered and was under pressure thereafter. Trainer J. O’Dea will be spoken regarding leaving the course prior to the prescribed time.
PRETTY GULLY - When questioned as to the poor performance of the mare Jockey J. P. Stanley said that his mount never travelled comfortably throughout and in his opinion resented racing inside other runners. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
GENERAL RIPPA – In the early part of the home straight was inclined to lay in.
Race 6: – NQ Tile Styles BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – MY GIRL CHARLIE 2nd – MARKAZY 3rd – MAINSHAFT 4th – MAL’S PRIDE
NAIL ‘EM was a late scratching, at 8.23 a.m., when no rider was available.
CASHED UP BULLY - Bumped at the start. Approaching the first turn near the 1000 metres improved onto heels and had to be checked.
MARK ME OLEE - Bumped at the start. Rounding the first turn, near the 1000 metres, came together with another runner.
MARKAZY - Came together with another runner approaching the first turn.
