Race 7: Open Handicap

Trainer L. Ashford informed stewards that FASCIA will now be retired from racing.

Race 5: Open Handicap

Stewards established that J. O’Dea, the trainer of EUREKA DUBAI, had not left the course prior to the prescribed time, as was first reported. Mr O’Dea has since reported that the mare pulled up well following its disappointing performance, however in his opinion did not appreciate the shifty track conditions and does not run out a strong 1200 metres.


LATE RIDING CHANGES

When the Emerald meeting set down for yesterday, 13th December 2014, was postponed until today, stewards permitted the following riding changes to be made on Friday, 12th December 2014: Race 3, ROCKET ELEMENT, App. S. Wiseman replaced Jockey M. Abe; Race 4, ZATSACAT, App. B. Swaffer replaced M. Abe; Race 5, SPIN AGAIN, Jockey J. P. Stanley replaced M. Abe.

Race 1: - Happy 21st Andrew Crispe Class 1 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st - PRESS PLAY 2nd - PRESSUM 3rd - AWESOME HORSESOM 4th - DAMKY

DAMKY - Over-raced when the pace steadied in the middle stages.

Following the running of this race the track rating was upgraded to a Good 4 retrospectively.

Race 2: - Emanate Legal Maiden Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – TRY ME DOL 2nd – LOCKIEBE 3rd - ADIZORO 4th – JUST A FRACTION

GREENSKI – After arriving on course the mare, which had not raced for 911 days, was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. Public announcements were made accordingly. Rider reported that the gelding was inclined to lay out throughout the event.

ABSOLUTE DESTINY – Dislodged its rider en route to the barriers and broke through the running rail near the 1600 metres and was a late withdrawal by order of the stewards at 1.15 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on ABSOLUTE DESTINY be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:

0¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, TRY ME DOL
2¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, TRY ME DOL
3¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, LOCKIEBE
3¢ in the dollar for the placer for 3rd, ADIZERO

Trainer Mr P. Alley was told that he would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate before the gelding will be permitted to race again.

JUST A FRACTION – After being crossed in the early stages raced keenly and refused to settle. Shortly after straightening was held up for clear running and was shifted out to improve, carrying another runner outwards into the running of TRY ME DOL, which was hampered.

ADIZERO – Shortly after straightening was taken outwards into the running of another runner, which was hampered.

TRY ME DOL – Hampered shortly after straightening when another runner was taken outwards. Laid out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.

Race 3: - Tropical Ice QTIS 2YO Maiden Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – ZAZAAR 2nd – PURE CHANCE 3rd - BOOK A FLIGHT 4th – CRAIGLEA WANDOO

ZOOLICIOUS – Bucked shortly after the start, dislodging Jockey F. Edwards, shifted out and hampered PURE CHANCE. Trainer W. Kenning advised stewards that the filly will now be spelled. Nevertheless, he was told that the horse must perform satisfactorily in an official trial before being permitted to race again. Jockey Edwards was indisposed and was unable to fulfil his further engagements. Substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

ZAZAAR – Made heavy contact with another runner at the start.

BETTY ISABEL – Made heavy contact at the start.

ROCKET ELEMENT - Began awkwardly.

CRAIGLEA WISE - Rider reported that the gelding felt shin sore in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was lame in the off foreleg. Trainer K. Johnston was advised that she must furnish a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.

Jockey D. Missen pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a)in that passing the 900 metres he allowed BOOK A FLIGHT to shift in when insufficiently clear of FALVELON DANCER, which clipped the heels of BOOK A FLIGHT and blundered. Jockey Missen was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on 21st December 2014 up until Sunday 4th January 2015.

Race 4: – Northern Rural Group Class 6 Plate – 1400 metres
1st – HOLEY GADOLEY 2nd – RISE TO THE TOP 3rd – BLOWIN’ YOUR MIND 4th – INSIDE PAGE

GLADIUS - Was slow to begin.

JUST HUSTLED - Approaching the 1100 metres had to be steadied to avoid the heels of another runner, which shifted in when not quite clear. On returning to scale the rider reported that he was never able to obtain clear running until near the 100 metres

ZATSACAT – Shifted in when not quite clear approaching the 1100m. Rider advised to exercise more care.

SHERIDAN – When caught wide in the early stages allowed to stride forward and assume the lead.

RISE TO THE TOP - Raced wide throughout.

Race 5: – Playmate Daycare & Kindergarten Class 2 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st – SHEKOU 2nd – SECRET ORDERS 3rd – I’M MARIAH 4th – AVIATOR GIRL

EIREANN – Was slow to begin, then shortly after was bumped heavily by another runner, which shifted out and made contact with another runner.

SPIN AGAIN – Bumped heavily shortly after the start, shifted out and bumped another runner. Tailed the field throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormalities.

AVIATOR GIRL – Approaching 900 metres shifted in when insufficiently clear of I’M MARIAH, which was carried inwards and crowded the running of REGENCY ROY ALE. App. Wiseman was severely reprimanded. Stewards took into account App. Wiseman’s exemplary record and her frankness.

LASTING IMAGE - Was slow to begin.

I’M MARIAH - Approaching 900 metres carried inwards and crowded another runner. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

REGENCY ROYALE – Crowded for room approaching the 900 metres.

Race 6: – Mark James Hair Studio BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – MIGHTY BENDER 2nd – KINGS ROAD 3rd – PUBLIC AFFAIR 4th – EXAGGERATION

MAINSHAFT - Slow to begin.

EXAGGERATION - Began awkwardly.

PUBLIC AFFAIR - Slow to begin. Held up for clear running until passing the 100 metres.

FLIGHT TO GLORY - Joining the course proper, near the 700 metres, brushed the running rail and became momentarily unbalanced.

NICSKIOFFSKI – Shortly after straightening shifted in abruptly and made contact with the running rail.

Race 7: Jupiters Townsville BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – MAL’S PRIDE 2nd – KATHERINE GORGE 3rd – ALEXANDER PARADE 4th – KING MAGNUSSON

FAST ANNIE - Was slow to begin then hampered shortly after the start.

BURT - Rider reported that his mount never travelled at any stage of the race and blundered on numerous occasions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the horse was lame in the near hind. Trainer E. Covell was told that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the horse being permitted to race again.

EXCEEDED - Refused to settle throughout the early and middle stages.

TALLICA, CASHED UP BULLY, and NATE raced wide throughout.

KATHERINE GORGE - Apprentice M. Powell, the rider of KATHERINE GORGE which finished second, returned to scale more than 1kg above his allocated weight. He was suspended under A.R. 145 from riding in races for a period to commence immediately, up until 25th December 2014, on which day he may ride.
