SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT: Townsville, 2nd January 2015:

Race 3: Happy New Year from the TTC Class 1 Handicap – 1400 metres

SHE BEE STINGIN’: Trainer Ms J. Russell reported that the mare had recovered well from its heat stress related colic and after having a brief let-up had worked well since.

Race 1: - Zinc 100.7 2-Y-O Maiden Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – VALLEY ROSE 2nd - CRAIGLEA ALTISE 3rd - CRAIGLEA WISE 4th - BOOK A FLIGHT

CRAIGLEA ALTISE – Made contact with another runner at the start. Raced greenly when under pressure in the straight and was inclined to lay out, placing its rider at a disadvantage.

DIVINE SAGA – Made contact with another runner at the start. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, which performed below market expectations, Jockey D’Avila explained that DIVINE SAGA raced greenly throughout, had to be continually steadied off the heels of runners in front, and when placed under pressure in the straight failed to respond and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was lame in the off foreleg. Trainer R. Chillemi was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the horse racing again.

CRAIGLEA ALDI – Began awkwardly.

VALLEY ROSE – Bumped at the start.

VALENTINE’S DAY – Bumped at the start.

CRAIGLEA WISE – On returning to scale App. McGillivray reported that his mount raced greenly throughout and refused to settle.

Following this race the track rating was upgraded from a SOFT(6) to a SOFT (5).

Race 2: - Tribute to Dr Gavin Douglas Class 1 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – SUNSET IN NEW YORK 2nd – PASCALINO 3rd - YOU’RE SO LUCKY 4th – SEQUALO SUZIE

HOLIDAY - As Jockey F. Edwards was to be overweight, Jockey P. Cullen was substituted and was given permission to ride the gelding 0.5 kg overweight when no other suitable rider was available. Jockey Edwards was reprimanded under A.R. 120(b). In determining penalty stewards took into account Jockey Edwards’ exemplary record in regard to this Rule. Approaching the 250 metres had to be steadied when crowded between SUNNY CHIEF (D. Simmons) and MOONLIGHT CAFÉ (G. Kliese) which, after being held up on the heels of SEQUALO SUZIE then shifted out. Jockey Kliese was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

SUNSET IN NEW YORK – As Jockey S. Pawsey was to be overweight, Jockey F. Edwards was substituted. Jockey Pawsey was fined $100 under A.R. 120(b).

DOCTOR TREV – Crowded for room and checked shortly after the start. For some distance thereafter raced in restricted room.

SUNNY CHIEF – Shifted out abruptly at the start and crowded another runner.

DUKE CELESTE – Inclined to lay out throughout the event.

MOONLIGHT CAFÉ : Rounding the turn near the 500 metres had to be steadied when crowded for room.

RATSTAN – Rounding the turn near the 500 metres had to be steadied when crowded for room. Rider cautioned against excessive use of the whip in a backhand manner.

Race 3: - Tribute to George Roberts CBE Maiden Plate – 1200 metres
1st – JUST A FRACTION 2nd – VIRTUITY 3rd - AZZURAYER 4th – WHO’S YOUR CADDY

The start of this race was delayed when App. J. Orman, the rider of SHINNECOCK HILLS, struck his foot on the gate leaving the enclosure, necessitating the replacement of his boot.

SHINNECOCK HILLS - In the early stages over-raced with its head up.

WHO’S YOUR CADDY – Contacted another runner at the start.

ADIZERO - Made contact with another runner at the start.

VIRTUITY – Raced keenly throughout and as a result was allowed to stride forward and assume the lead.

BARELY THERE - A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare was lame in the near foreleg. Trainer O. Cairns advised stewards that the mare will now be retired from racing.

Race 4: – Join the TTC 100 Club in 2015 BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – MALIBU ROSE 2nd – BLU AXIS 3rd – THE PRINCIPAL 4th – SECRET ORDERS

MALIBU ROSE - As Jockey D. Simmons was to be overweight, Jockey S. Wilson was substituted. Jockey Simmons was reprimanded under A.R. 120(b). In assessing penalty stewards took into account Jockey Simmons’ exemplary record in relation to this Rule. When questioned as to the seeming improved performance of the mare, trainer Mr A. Molino said that at its most recent start MALIBU ROSE had suffered interference over the concluding stages and in his opinion would have finished much closer. Mr Molino added that today the mare benefited from the addition of winkers and concussion plates.

Race 5: – Parry NQ BenchMark 75 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – SHEKOU 2nd – ROC’ DA FLOOR 3rd – MIATA 4th – KOOLASACAT

TOUCH OF ELEGANCE – Began awkwardly.

KOOLASACAT – Was slow to begin.

HARD LIQUOR – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was lame in the near hind leg. Trainer B. Butts was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.

MIATA - A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had sustained minor lacerations to both forelegs.

Race 6: – SKY Racing BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – CARAVAN SANG 2nd – GUNDY STAR 3rd – SERENE PEARL 4th – MY GIRL CHARLIE

ZATSACAT – Late scratching, at 8.23 a.m. by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice. Trainer Mr R. Finch was told that he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.

NATE – Replated behind the barriers.

CHATEAU DETTORI – Was standing awkwardly in the barriers and then was slow to begin.

GUNDY STAR – Was inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight.

Approaching the 200 metres HILTON MISS (P. Cullen) had to be steadied when tightened for room between MAECENUS (G. Watson) and REAL DREAMS (App. B. Appo), which shifted in under riding. App. Appo was reprimanded. A short distance later HILTON MISS had to be checked when crowded for room between MAECENUS and REAL DREAMS, which was taken in slightly by SHERIDAN (J. P. Stanley). Jockey Stanley was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

HILTON MISS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare was lame in the off hind leg. Trainer S. Potiris advised stewards that the mare will now be spelled. Acting on this assurance no further action was taken.

Race 7: - Townsville RSL Class 3 Plate - 1200 metres
1st – CHARLIE’S MOMENT 2nd – I’M MARIAH 3rd – WISHFUL 4th – TABASCO FORCE

RICH ‘N’ FAMOUS - Prior to the race trainer Ms J. Ryan informed stewards that the gelding would be ridden back in the field, if possible. Public announcements were made to that effect and the gelding was ridden accordingly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was lame in the off hind leg. Trainer Ms J. Ryan was told that she must provide a veterinary clearance prior to RICH ‘N’ FAMOUS being permitted to race again.

STRICTLY MAGIC – Checked and blundered shortly after the start.

TABASCO FORCE – Began awkwardly and made contact with another runner. Joining the course proper, near the 1000 metres, had to be checked when awkwardly placed on heels.

ROYAL PHYSICIAN – Contacted by another runner shortly after the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the colt was displaying a poor recovery rate.

FROM THE DARKNESS – Rider T. Bannon was reminded of her obligation to ride her mounts out to the finish.

CHARLIE’S MOMENT - When questioned trainer B. Butts was at a loss to explain the seeming improved performance, other than that the gelding had worked well leading into today’s event, however he said that CHARLIE’S MOUNT may have derived benefit from a different farrier regime.

Race 8: XXXX Gold Open Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – MY KING OATH 2nd – SEQUONIS 3rd – BAR ATTACK 4th – SIZZLELON

MY KING OATH – When questioned regarding the seeming improved performance, trainer O. Cullen stated that the gelding had taken benefit from a brief freshen-up and being able to take up a more forward position, and also an alteration to the farrier regime. Rider reported that his mount was inclined to shift in under pressure in the home straight.

GENERAL RIPPA - Was slow to begin. When questioned regarding the poor performance the rider explained that after being slow to begin, his mount was able to obtain a prominent position, where it travelled comfortably throughout the early and middle stages, however over the concluding stages had weakened under pressure.

BAR ATTACK - In the early part of the home straight and approaching the 200 metres held up and had to be steadied when disappointed for a run, then did not obtain clear running until near the 100 metres.

CHEVAL ARGENTE - Had to be steadied inside the 100 metres to avoid the heels of FUNDIDO, which shifted in under pressure. App. M. Powell was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
