Race 1: Sky Racing QTIS 3YO Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – CRAIGLEA WANDOO 2nd – WICKED CRIME 3rd – RYLEE'S SAGA 4th – NIC'S DRAGON
As P. Cullen was to be overweight, D. Simmons was substituted as the rider of CRAIGLEA JABIRU. P. Cullen was fined $100 under AR. 120(b)
WICKED CRIME – Slow into stride.
TURN UP THE VOLUME – Jumped out abruptly at the start, hampering runners to its outside.
NIC'S DRAGON – Hampered by another runner on jumping.
BOLT ON BY – Hampered by another runner on jumping.
CRAIGLEA WANDOO – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
CRAIGLEA JABIRU – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
RYLEE'S SAGA – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 2: Garrisons@Townsville RSL QTIS Class 1 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – DASH OF WIZZARD 2nd – FLIRTING DRAGON 3rd – JUMBO RUMBO 4th – CARLINO'S WAY
GALLIVANTING – Slowly away.
DEE MINISHING – Slowly away. After being held up on straightening, was forced to shift wider on the track to obtain clear running in the early part of the straight. Stewards questioned apprentice R. Payne in relation to her riding tactics employed on the mare. Apprentice Payne advised that the mare had not jumped well and shortly after the start had to be restrained when crowded between runners and as a result the mare raced ungenerously to the 600m and was reluctant to stretch out despite her urgings. She added that at approximately the 600m, when it was able to get on terms with another runner, the mare raced more generously. She further added that the mare was also held up for clear running rounding the home turn, but once able to obtain clear running, ran home strongly.
CLEVER ONE – Jumped in at the start.
BIG TOMEE – Slowly away.
CRAIGLEA DIXIE – Raced wide throughout.
FALSE ALARM – Jockey W D’Avila advised that the mare had raced greenly throughout and was reluctant to hold its position when racing to the inside of other runners in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
SNITZEL ROSE – Inclined to lay in rounding the home turn. Bumped by another runner near the 250m.
Jockey F. Edwards was fined $100 for using the whip on FLIRTING DRAGON 9 times prior to the 100m.
Jockey C. Lennon was fined $100 for using the whip 7 times on GALLIVANTING prior to the 100 metres.
Race 3: Parry NQ – Just For You! Maiden Plate – 1000 metres
1st – SUSSEX STREET 2nd – PROSPERUM 3rd – RED SHAWL 4th – JUSTIFICATION
BANOFFE – Lost its bridle in the enclosure, resulting in a delay in arrival at the barriers. Slowly away.
ALLBAALACK – Jockey S. McGovern was dislodged on the way to the barriers, quickly remounted.
WHO'S YOUR CADDY – Reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer R. Tapiolas was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding's pre-race manners.
ICE CI – Slowly away. Raced greenly in the early stages.
DYNA CI – Hung out badly throughout. Trainer's representative Mr Campeao was advised that the horse would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next start.
RED SHAWL – Had to be restrained off heels for a few strides near the 800m when another runner shifted in when not quite clear.
SUSSEX STREET – Shifted in near the 800m, causing inconvenience to another runner. Jockey S. Wilson was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to GOOD (4).
Race 4: Liquitech Pump & Power Equipment Class 3 Plate – 1000 metres
1st – RANGILA 2nd – MINNIE STREET 3rd – RICH 'N' FAMOUS 4th – SPLASH OUT
RESTART MY HEART – Slowly into stride.
CANNES CONI – Slowly into stride. Taken in by another runner near the 800m.
LAGUNA VISTA – Slowly into stride. Lost ground at the 800m after being placed in restricted room to the inside of another runner which had been taken in.
SPLASH OUT – Shifted in near the 800m, causing marginal tightening to inside runners. Rider S. McGovern was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
RICH 'N' FAMOUS – Overraced in the middle stages.
FLIGHT TO GLORY – Raced wide on the home turn.
NAIL 'EM – Raced wide on the home turn.
EQDAAM – Raced wide on the home turn.
AVELLINO – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
Race 5: XXXX Gold Open Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – GUNDY STAR 2nd – DAZZLE ON 3rd – KAYAN 4th – OKAY SWIFT
MISHANI PERSUADER – J. Long was fined $100 for using the whip 7 times prior to the 100m.
PRETTY GULLY – Stewards questioned trainer J. Hassett in relation to the performance of the mare, which compounded over the concluding stages. Ms Hassett advised that she would be recommending to the owners that the mare be retired from racing.
GUNDY STAR – Blundered soon after jumping.
OKAY SWIFT – C. Lennon was fined $200 for using the whip 6 times prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, stewards were mindful that this was jockey Lennon's third offence under the new rules.
Race 6: Townsville RSL Class 6 Plate – 1400 metres
1st – ROWEINER 2nd – MOUNTAIN VIEW 3rd – HORACIO 4th – PRETTY VACANT
MOUNTAIN VIEW – Raced keenly in the early stages.
INSIDE PAGE – Raced keenly in the early stages.
THE OWL – Inclined to overrace from the 1100m to the 900m with its head in the air.
PRETTY VACANT – Caught wide for the majority of the event.
Race 7: Happy New Year From The TTC BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – STANDFORD 2nd – DUKE CELESTE 3rd – FOUR JAYS 4th – FILLE VILAINE
As P. Cullen was to be overweight, J. Felix was substituted as the rider of FILLE VILAINE. P. Cullen was fined $100 under AR. 120(b).
FIRMITAS – Bumped with another runner on jumping.
EURONGILLY – Bumped with another runner on jumping.
MAL'S PRIDE – Bumped with another runner on jumping.
CORONATION JOURNEY – Bumped with another runner on jumping and had to be restrained off heels near the 1000m.
I'M MARIAH – Commenced to overrace near the 1300m when crossed by another runner. Momentarily held up for clear running on straightening.
SERGEANT SHRIVER – Had to be restrained off heels near the 1000m and again near the 500m.
DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE – Inconvenienced due to minor tightening near the 500m.
