Stewards today concluded an inquiry into a complaint by licensed bookmaker Mr D. Tamblyn against licensed bookmaker Mr C. Perkins in relation to Mr Perkins failing to accept a bet at Townsville Turf Club from Mr Tamblyn on Tuesday, 7 November 2017.  After hearing all of the evidence, Mr Perkins pleaded guilty to a charge under AR175(k) in that he breached Local Rule 88(1) and was fined the sum of $500.
 
Mackay, Race 1, Open H’cap (1560m) 12.3.18
 
Following the disappointing performance of Our Neddy Boy, trainer J. Wigginton advised Stewards that the gelding had pleased him since returning to the stables and that he would monitor the horse and proceed with its preparation.
 
 
Mackay, Race 7, Benchmark 55 H’cap (1560m) 12.3.18
 
Trainer A. Stephens advised that after returning to its stable and having a further veterinary examination, Nevaeh was found to be suffering from an infection and was accordingly being treated for this condition, and as such the filly has been sent for an immediate spell.
General
 
As B. Pengelly was not riding at today’s meeting due to transportation difficulties, he was replaced as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
 
Race 1: Hygain Benchmark 70 H’cap – 1400m  
 
TEXT BOOK – Began awkwardly.
 
SPACE TIME – Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the race.
 
MOLONGLE DREAM – Momentarily held up on entering the home straight.
 
Race 2: Carlton Mid QTIS 2yo Maiden H’cap - 1000m 
 
CRAIGLEA GALIO – S. Wiseman was the replacement rider of the horse.  Slow to begin.
 
LITTLE ARROWS – Slow to begin.
 
BLONDE BEAUTY – Began awkwardly and was then buffeted between runners for a short distance and lost ground.  Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s poor performance.
 
SUJANI – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
ZLOTO – Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the race.
 
TAWHIRI – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
CRAIGLEA TUNDRA – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race.
 
Race 3: Subway Fairfield Waters Maiden H’cap - 1000m 
 
MANHATTAN MONTY – Dislodged its rider N. Nelson on entering the track.  Miss Nelson declared herself free of injury and was able to fulfil the engagement. Slow to begin.
 
FAST SUN – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start and was slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
CORNWALL COAST – Rider J. Stanley dropped his whip approaching the winning post.
 
ZULU TUK – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
AMERICAN GENERAL – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Trainer G. Hughes made representations to stewards prior to the start that the horse race without its declared gear of winkers and tongue-tie as it was the gelding’s first start for the stable and had been doing all its trackwork without that gear. This was broadcast by public announcement. Mr Hughes was fined the sum of $100 for failing to advise a gear change by the required time.
 
Race 4: North 2 West Tyres & Wheels Benchmark 65 H’cap - 1000m 
 
GREY SAMBUCCA – Declared a late scratching at 9.15 am by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice.  Trainer L. Smerdon was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided before the horse would be permitted to race again.
 
ROAD FOX – Slow to begin. Tightened for room near the 700m.
 
STONE PHILOSPHER – Slow to begin. When questioned into its performance today, rider D. Evans advised stewards it was his intention for the horse to race in a forward position, if not lead, which is its usual pattern of racing, however was slow to begin and, in his opinion, raced like a tired horse. He further added that, in his opinion, the gelding may not have recovered from its trip to South-East Queensland and may not have backed up from that run at Ipswich 28/02/2018. Trainer M. Cochrane agreed with jockey Evans’ assessment, however was disappointed with the horse’s performance today and gave an undertaking to advise stewards should anything come to his attention in the near future that may have had a bearing on today’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken. 
 
PINCER STRIKE - Checked near the 700m when tightened for room.
 
MOLONGLE FIRE – Rider N. Day pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge under AR137(a), in that near the 700m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of PINCER STRIKE (D. Edmonds), which had to be checked and shifted in slightly, tightening the running of ROAD FOX (M. Abe).  Jockey Day’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days, to commence at midnight, 23 March and up to and including midnight, 2 April 2018.   
 
Race 5: Ardent Office Equipment Open H’cap – 1200m 
 
I’M NOT SURE – Slow to begin.
 
WINDMILL LANE – Shifted out near the 1000m bumping another runner.
 
PERFECT KNOWLEDGE – Raced ungenerously in the early stages, throwing its head n the air. Laid in near the 300m, having to be steadied from heels.
 
GREEN ANCHOR – Commenced to lay out rounding the home turn and continued to so when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
GRAND EMPEROR – Bumped near the 1000m by another runner and threw its head in the air.
 
 
 
 
 
Race 6: Blinds For You Benchmark 55 H’cap – 1200m 
 
ROCKETTE ROCKET – Began awkwardly and raced in restricted room near the 900m for a short distance and improved onto the heels of another runner near the 500m and had to be steadied.
 
FLYING DUBAI – Slow to begin.
 
CRAIGLEA ODYSSEY – Restrained from heels for a short distance leaving the 1000m.  Hampered near the 500m when another runner improved on to its heels.
 
CHIC SOX – Rider D. Edmonds advised stewards on return to scale that his saddle shifted to the near-side leaving the 600m, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race.
 
THE BEE’S KNEES – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
SEEKTOWIN – Commenced to over-race when crossed by another runner and placed in restricted room near the 900m.   

LONGING FOR – Shifted in near the 900m, placing runners to its inside in restricted room.  Rider J. Stanley was severely reprimanded and advised to be clear of runners before shifting ground in similar circumstances.
 
Race 7: Townsville Bulletin Class 1 H’cap – 1400m 
 
SPY CI – Slow to begin.
 
EQUISTAR – Began awkwardly and shifted out, tightening runners to its outside despite the efforts of its rider.
 
PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS – Tightened for room shortly after the start and clipped the heels of another runner and blundered, losing ground.
 
KENSINGTON STAR – Tightened for room and steadied shortly after the start.
 
ARNHEM BEAUTY – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
BALLERDEE BOB – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race.
