From Townsville, 25.3.18 - Race 4 – Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1000m
 
Trainer M. Cochrane advised stewards that after retuning to its stable and being further examined by his veterinary surgeon the horse was found to have an elevated white blood cell count and a bruised eye, which it was being treated for.
 
Race 1: Carlton-Mid QTIS 2yo Maiden H’cap – 1200m
 
ROCKETHEAD – Blundered on jumping away and shifted out, bumping another runner. Had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn and continued to do so when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
ROCKET ‘N’ RUBY – Bumped by another runner on jumping.
 
BLONDE BEAUTY – Finished tailed off. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that the horse’s nomination would now be refused at TAB meetings until such time as its form may improve by way of country meetings.
 
Race 2: Wulguru Soccer Club Class 2 H’cap – 1300m
 
OUR LITTLE MIRACLE – As apprentice A. Thomson was unable to make the allotted weight, she was replaced by D. Simmons when no other apprentice rider was available.  A. Thomson was fined $100.  Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
MAGNUS RULES – Bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.
 
BARWON – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages, throwing its head in the air.
 
 
Race 3:  Harcourts Kingsberry Townsville Class 3 H’cap – 1609m
 
ZEDAHEEL – Delayed the start when the gelding shifted its off hind plate during its preliminary, having to be replated.
 
CAPITANEAR – Slow to begin.
 
IRISH HEART – When questioned into the tactics adopted by rider S. Wiseman, she stated that it was not her intention to lead today, however once the gelding found the lead, commenced to race strongly and refused to settle and as such she was unable to restrain her mount. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
CARLINO’S WAY – Rider P. Cullen pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(4)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. P. Cullen was fined the sum of $200.
 
Race 4: Waltec Industries Class 6 Plate – 1200m
 
PLATINUM TYCOON – Began awkwardly and shifted out, tightening runners to its outside.
 
WE FOUND IT – Tightened for room between runners on jumping away.
 
SPREADEAGLED – Raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 1000m and shifted out, brushing another runner on a number of occasions.
 
SPACE TIME – Brushed by another runner on a number of occasions near the 1000m. Raced keenly for some distance. Raced wide for the majority of the race, and laid in under pressure in the home straight. When questioned into the tactics adopted on the gelding, rider W. D’Avila stated that when being hampered near the 1000m it fired the horse up and commenced to race strongly.  He further added he was happy with the pace of the race, but given the leader and its normal pattern, he was reluctant to push forward and challenge for the lead.  However when SPACE TIME then commenced to overrace he was unable to restrain and take  a sit behind the leading horses one off the fence and as a result was obliged to race wide throughout. His explanation was noted.
 
 
Race 5: Otto’s Market QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1200m
 
PALM SPRINGS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
ROSE CLIP – Shifted in at the start, tightening runners to its inside. Rider K. Stone was subsequently severely reprimanded. Rider K. Stone pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 1000m when not sufficiently clear of MOLONGLE FIRE (W. D’Avila), which had to be steadied and shift in, tightening the running of EDGED IN LACE (R. Payne), which had to be restrained and shifted in, tightening the running of SIDTHEKID (P. Cullen), which had to be severely checked. Jockey K. Stone’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days to commence midnight 23 March 2018 up to and including midnight 5 April 2018.
 
FIVE ‘N’ DEVINE – Tightened for room by another runner and had to be checked soon after the start and lost ground.
 
SIDTHEKID – Severely checked near the 1000m when tightened for room.
 
EDGED IN LACE – Restrained near the 1000m when tightened for room.
 
MOLONGLE FIRE – Delayed the start when difficult to load. Trainer B. Williams was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners. Forced inwards at the start by another runner.  Inconvenienced near the 1000m and shifted in, tightening runners to its inside.
 
Race 6: Purcell Taylor Lawyers CG&E Class 1 H’cap – 1000m
 
HANCOCK – Delayed the start when reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Began awkwardly. Trainer J. Ryan was advised that warning would placed on the horse’s parading manners.
 
NADEEM ESPRIT – Began awkwardly and shifted out, tightening runners to its outside.
 
DECODED – Began awkwardly and shifted inwards, tightening runners to its inside.
 
GRAPHITE JOE – Tightened for room and checked at the start, losing ground.
 
MAGITORIAL – Tightened for room and checked at the start, losing ground.
 
SLIPPERY SAGA – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
SHAHQA – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Race 7: Logistics NQ F&M Class 1 H’cap – 1000m
 
ONE SUNDAY – As rider S. Wilson was unable to make the allotted weight, he was replaced by M. Haley.  Jockey S. Wilson was fined $100.
 
INNER HURRY – Began awkwardly.
 
FANCY POLO – Slow to begin.
 
ONE SUNDAY – Began very awkwardly, becoming unbalanced and losing ground.
 
IMPERIAL BELLE – Improved onto heels near the 600m and was steadied.
 
IZZY’S KEEPER – Disappointed for a run near the 350m and was steadied.
 
ANNE CATHERINE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
LEIGHWAY – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
