SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS

Townsville Tuesday 29 May 2018

Stewards today inquired into the reasons why trainer Mr L Gordy engaged in and posted comments on the Townsville Turf Club Facebook platform on Thursday 24 May 2018.

After hearing and considering statements from Mr L Gordy and Mr P Gordy, stewards charged Mr L Gordy under AR175(qq) which reads:

“The Principal Racing Authority (or the Stewards exercising powers delegated to them) may penalise;

(qq) Any person who in their opinion, is guilty of engaging in the publishing or posting on any social media platform or channel any material, content or comment that is obscene, offensive, defamatory, racist, threatening, harassing, discriminating or abusive to any other person or entity involved in the racing industry.”

The particulars of the charge were that on Thursday 24 May 2018 he did post comments on a social media platform which were deemed defamatory against the Townsville Turf Club. Mr L Gordy pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined the sum of $1500.00. Stewards further ordered under the provisions of AR196(4) that $1000.00 of that fine be suspended for a period of 12 months conditional upon Mr Gordy not offending under the same or a similar rule.

From Mackay Saturday 26 May 2018 –

Race 1: MOJO BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 2000M

Stewards have adjourned to a time and date to be fixed an inquiry into the riding of apprentice Z. White (WINSOMEMORE), in particular her whip action near the 150m.

THE AROD – Rider S. Wiseman was fined the sum of $200.00 in that she used her whip in an excessive manner prior to the 100m.

Race 1: MATER HEALTH SERVICES BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1609M

OCTOBER TUTU – Steadied from heels near the 600m.

SKIFIELD – Bumped on the hind quarters near the 1200m and became unbalanced. Overraced in the middle stages. Shifted in near the 250m, crowding another runner.

GOOD CATCH – Slow to begin. Checked near the 1200m when tightened for room. S. Wilson, the rider of OCTOBER TUTU, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR.  137(a) in that near the 1200m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of GOOD CATCH, which had improved to the inside, taking that runner in on to the hind quarters of SKIFIELD (P. Cullen), which became unbalanced. S. Wilson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 13 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 9 June 2018 and expire at midnight on Friday 22 June 2018. In determining penalty, stewards deemed the interference to be in the mid-range. Steadied and shifted out when crowded for room near the 250m.

After hearing all statements and viewing the videos, and taking into account where the incident took place, stewards dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.
