DAIMOND COUNTRY – Stewards questioned App E Cass, in the presence of her master Mr F Wieland, regarding the riding tactics adopted on the mare. Ms Cass advised her instructions were to attempt to lead if possible, but if challenged by another on pace runner to make that runner work until able to comfortably take a sit behind. Trainer Mr C Parry confirmed these instructions and expressed severe disappointment with the ride. Stewards advised App Cass, that in their opinion, it would have been a better option, after having to ride hard in the early stages to reach the lead, to relinquish when it became obvious that Jockey R Payne was unable to get her mount TAKING CHARGE which was racing fiercely to the outside of DIAMOND COUNTRY to settle. App Cass agreed that she had made an error of judgement and was advised that this being the 2nd occasion her riding tactics had come under scrutiny in recent weeks she would be referred to the Racing Queensland Riding Skills Panel for assessment and further assistance. App Cass was also fined $200 for using her whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. AR132(7)(a)(ii).
