BERNIE BEEL- Having raced on the 3rd July underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.

SNEAKY GAL- As Jockey C Whiteley was late to arrive on course due to transport difficulties, and no suitable senior rider was available, Stewards permitted App E Cass to ride the mare. Having raced on the 3rd July underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. App Cass was fined the sum of $500 under the provisions of AR131(b) in that she did fail to ride her mount out to the finish. In determining penalty Stewards considered App Cass’s record in relation to the rule as well as the fact that, in the opinion of Stewards, her actions did cost the mare 4th place. App Cass was advised of her right to an internal review.

RAW INSINCT- Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with another runner.

MAN ONA MISSION- Having raced on the 3rd July underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Bumped by another runner on jumping before shifting out and hampering another runner. Momentarily hampered passing the 300m by another runner which shifted out.

MISHANI PATRIOT- Having raced on the 3rd July underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. After becoming fractious in the mounting yard and contacting a gate post with its chest underwent a further pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Slow into stride before being hampered by another runner which shifted out soon after jumping. Shifted wider from the 600m in an effort to improve. Was momentarily hampered passing the 300m by another runner which shifted out.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding Jockey C Spry advised that after beginning well and finding the lead without any effort the gelding was racing comfortably until DANGERFIELD (App R Shred) challenged for the lead at which time his mount commenced to over-race for some distance, a fact he believed to be telling in the finish. Trainer S Acornley concurred with Jockey Spry’s assessment, adding that this was the geldings first time stepping up to 1400m and she expected it to settle further forward than in its previous starts. Stewards noted the explanations.

UTAH GET ME TWO- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Stewards inquired into Jockey N Days riding of the gelding in the home straight. Jockey Day advised that whilst racing true throughout the event upon entering into the home straight the gelding commenced to race untractably placing him at a severe disadvantage for the duration of the home straight and as such the gelding went to the line without being tested. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer S Massingham advised that upon returning to his training complex in Cairns the gelding presented with both eyes being swollen, consistent with receiving kickback in running. Taking this into consideration, as well as Jockey Day’s evidence, the geldings recent racing record and its racing manners today Stewards advised Mr Massingham that the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
