Race 8- CEQ GROUP MACKAY CUP HANDICAP 2000m

DORDOGNE- Subsequent to the race meeting Trainer G Hughes has advised that the gelding had some minor abrasions on its tongue and he believed it had resented the tongue tie in running. Mr Hughes advised further that he would be removing the tongue tie and blinkers for next start. Stewards noted the explanation.

ALL TOO NATURAL- Raced wide the majority. Jockey W D’Avila advised that his mount performed disappointingly and attributed that to being caught wide throughout. KOONUNGA HILL- Shifted in and away from another runner passing the 1200m and bumped with a further runner to its inside. Held up for clear running over the concluding stages.

TOSCAVALE ROAD- Inclined to race ungenerously from the 1300-1000m after being restrained and was inclined to race keenly thereafter.

DALBERGIA- Jockey F Edwards pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 9 occasions, 4 more than permitted, prior to the 100m. Jockey Edwards license was subsequently suspended for a period of 7 days to commence 9th August 2021 up to and including 15th August 2021. LET’S GO BOBBY- Jockey C Spry advised that his instructions had been to be forward and after beginning well secured the lead. Passing the 1000m BOLD EOS (A Butler) commenced to pressure his mount for the lead and Jockey Spry advised he had attempted to restrain his mount to allow BOLD EOS to assume the lead and take up a trailing position however his mount commenced to race keenly and approaching the 600m when it became apparent BOLD EOS was not travelling well enough to cross him he elected to permit his mount to stride forward again. Stewards noted Jockey Spry’s comments.

BOLD EOS- Slow into stride. Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted on the gelding which compounded in the home straight, with particular attention to Jockey Butler decision to persist in pressuring his mount to challenge LET’S GO BOBBY (C Spry) for the lead from the 1000m after it became apparent the gelding was going to be unable to achieve that end. Jockey Butler advised that his instructions were to be forward and to let his mount stride forward rather than restrain to obtain a position as the gelding lacks the ability to sprint, adding that, in hindsight, he would have liked to have secured a position ‘one out, one back’ from the leader. Trainer J Wehlow corroborated the instructions adding he had advised Jockey Butler that leading would be preferable. Stewards noted the explanations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-fore fetlock. Trainer J Wehlow was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Stewards intend to examine the betting reports for the race.

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Apprentice K Swaffer, rider of 2nd place getter OUR CHIQUILLA, to view the patrol footage to ascertain whether ground for an objection over the concluding stags were apparent. After viewing the footage in the presence of Trainer S Cooper App Swaffer elected not to proceed with any objection and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.

Race 7: RAY WHITE TOWNSVILLE SAUSAGE STEAKS CLAS 2 HANDICAP 1000m

ROSE OF ATHENS- Reared as the start was effected dislodging App E Cass.
