GENERAL
Due to Queensland Government Covid restrictions which limited Jockey access to spas and saunas, Stewards permitted the following Jockeys to ride overweight on their respective mounts:

Race 4- F Edwards +1kg
              L Tilley +1kg

Race 5- P Cullen +1/2kg
              A Jones +1/2kg
              L Tilley +1/2kg
              R Wiggins +1/2kg

Race 6- N Day +1/2kg
              C Whiteley +1/2kg

Race 8- G Kliese +1/2kg
              M Abe +1/2kg

The following riders were severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR232 for failing to notify Stewards of their intention to ride overweight on their respective mounts by the directed time:

Jockey L Tilley, Jockey N Day, Jockey P Cullen, App A Jones, Jockey M Abe, Jockey R Wiggins

Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred passing the 200m where INHISTIME (C Spry) clipped heels and blundered. After taking evidence from the riders involved and viewing the official patrol footage it was ascertained that passing the 200m GINGER MULE (D Smith) shifted out abruptly across the running of INHISTIME when insufficiently clear causing that runner to clip heels and blunder severely. Jockey Smith subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a). Jockey Smiths license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 17 days to commence 8th August 2021 up to and including 24th August 2021. In determining penalty Stewards considered the degree of interference and carelessness which were deemed to be in the high range, Jockey Smiths record in relation to the rule and his guilty plea as well as the racing manners of the filly and relevant penalty precedent. Jockey Smith was advised of his right to an internal review.

Declaration of correct weight was delayed whilst Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey N Thomas, rider of 2nd placegetter MOONSCAPE, against WINNING SAGA (W D’Avila) being declared the winner on the grounds of interference rounding the home turn. After taking evidence and viewing the official patrol footage Stewards were of the opinion that the degree of interference suffered by MOONSCAPE was not primarily caused by WINNING SAGA and therefore dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the Judges semaphored numbers.
