The gelding was ridden accordingly.

AR79(4)(b).

The start of the race was delayed due to both HALLSIDE HAMMER and GOLD TRICKLE having to be resaddled behind the barriers.

GOLD TRICKLE – Over-raced in the middle stages. Raced in a three wide position without cover for the majority.

HALLSIDE HAMMER – Trainers representative Ms B Gordy, when questioned, advised that at the gelding’s previous start when unplaced at Mackay, it had been ridden further back in the field than intended, and had not been comfortable on the tight circuit.

Jockey C Spry advised that the gelding had raced keenly with the addition of blinkers today and was also of the opinion that it may have got its tongue over the bit in running. Trainer W Kenning advised that it is his intention to experiment with gear prior to next race start.

Race 6. WILLYGOOD HORSE OF THE YEAR CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1400m

MIGHTY MARMALADE – Jockey P Cullen reported that the mare had taken charge and was uncontrollable, for some distance passing the 900m, due to the reins being slippery. As a result the mare improved rapidly through the field, and in doing so carried a runner to its outside wider. Had to be restrained near 100m when a runner to its outside shifted in.

Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred between the 1000m and 900m. After hearing evidence from the relevant parties and viewing available footage, it was established that MY SISTER SAL (S Pawsey) which at that point was racing to the inside of HONORED VOW (W D’Avila) and SKAGERAK (NZ) (D Simmons). As the pace began to slow MY SISTER SAL shifted wider to avoid the heels of BRAVIO (G Kliese) resulting in HONORED VOW and SKAGERAK (NZ) being carried wider. Simultaneously RAISE DA VIBRATION (N Day), shifted in marginally resulting in SKAGERAK (NZ) having to be severely checked, with PLUCKERCARN (C Whiteley) and VIKING CLAP (K Swaffer), which were following, having to shift wider to avoid the heels of runners in front. As Stewards considered a number of factors had been in play, no individual rider was held responsible, and, as such, this was deemed a racing incident.

Jockey J Lyon pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that near the 100m he permitted TOUCH OF BALI to shift in under riding when insufficiently clear of MIGHTY MARMALADE (P Cullen) resulting in that runner having to be restrained. Jockey Lyon’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence Sunday December 12, 2021 up to and including Saturday December 18, 2021. Jockey Lyon was advised of his right to take the matter to Internal Review.
