GENERAL

1.Prior to the race meeting, Stewards conducted routine stable inspections of trainers with runners engaged at today's meeting. No irregularities were identified.

2. Stewards permitted the following overweights.
    R1; Masa Abe (TIME POWER) + 1kg
    R6: Sean Cormack (SWALLOW) + 1kg
    R7: Masa Abe (CLUEDO) + 1kg

RACE 1:    HYGAIN MAIDEN HANDICAP (QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE 2&3YO'S ONLY)    1200 M

PRINCE PIER – fractious when parading; began awkwardly; raced keenly in the early stages.
OVERLAND (NZ) – began awkwardly and lost ground; crowded near the 900 metres and shifted in tightening WORTHY GAMBLE which was checked.
BOLD SANTOS – shifted out on jumping bumping with DARK FAE; raced keenly in the early and middle stages
DARK FAE – bumped on jumping away.
WORTH A GAMBLE – Slow to begin. Tightened and checked approaching the 950 metres when racing to the inside of OVERLAND (NZ). After reviewing the available vision and questioning the riders, Stewards established that leaving the 900 metres TOUCH IN THE NIGHT (C. Whiteley) has commenced to shift inwards to obtain a position closer to the running rail and, at that stage, was the required distance clear to do so. However, OVERLAND (NZ), (Aidan Holt) which had been slow to begin, has then improved quickly to the inside of TOUCH IN THE NIGHT whilst racing keenly with Rider Aidan Holt then having to heavily restrain OVERLAND (NZ) to avoid running up on to heels. In consequence OVERLAND (NZ) has shifted inwards and tightened WORTH A GAMBLE, which was severely checked. Stewards also noted that simultaneously STREAMALOT, which was racing ahead had struck the running rail and lost momentum after being crowded inwards by SWEET 'N' ELITE, which had hung inwards. This further contributed to the incident. Given all circumstances Stewards found no rider culpable.
SWEET 'N' ELITE – laid in near the 1,000 metres becoming awkwardly placed near the heels of STYLISH ROSIE and consequently had to be steadied. ,

MUSKITO – ran out at the start and lost ground; Rider Ryan Wiggins was questioned regarding the riding tactics he adopted on the gelding which was having its first race start for trainer S Massingham since arriving from Victoria. Jockey Wiggins reported that the gelding had led at its two previous starts and after missing the start he rode the gelding forward to contest the lead and that MUSKITO run had ended making the home turn. He stated that MUSKITO had hung out and over-raced badly throughout the event.

EXTRA FREE – slow to begin. Had to steady near the 200 metres when denied a run to the outside of CANNY PROSPECT which shifted out to improve; Rider Adam Sewell, rider of the fourth placed EXTRA FREE lodged a protest against second placed CANNY PROSPECT alleging interference passing the 200 metres.
