1. Stewards accepted the following overweights:

2. Rider Chris McIver was unable to ride today’s meeting with Stewards satisfied with the reason provided. The rider replacements are as per the Stewards Raceday Summary.

3. Prior to the running of Race 1, the track was upgraded to a Good 4 at 11:00am.

4. After the completion of the race meeting, rider Ivo Fry reported to Stewards that he was suffering discomfort in the hip region following riding today.


Race 1: EQUUS PERFORMANCE QTIS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000M

KARMARDO – Rider Tahlia Fenlon reported at scale that her saddle shifted back in running which placed KARMANDO at a disadvantage.

FARNANHEIT – Slow to begin.

JUNGLE WONDER – Shifted out on jumping and was slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and when attempting to improve into a developing run nearing the 200 metres, was hampered when LILSISTERDON’TCHA shifted out. Inclined to lay out under pressure over the concluding stages. After questioning riders Georgina Cartwright (JUNGLE WONDER) and Apprentice Fiona Sandkuhl (LILSISTERDON'TCHA) and reviewing vision of the incident it was established that both riders, which were at that point held up, had attempted to obtain a developing run however when shifting out LILSISTERDON'TCHA had moved out abruptly and contacted JUNGLE WONDER resulting in that runner being hampered. Given all circumstances, Apprentice Fiona Sandkuhl was reprimanded under the provisions of AR 131(a) and reminded of her obligations when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

BOLD SANTOS – Nearing the 200 metres, became unbalanced after being bumped by MOONYA LAD which shifted out.

MOONYA LAD – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn before shifting out leaving the 250 metres bumping BOLD SANTOS, which in turn shifted out inconveniencing BABUSHKA DOLL, which was taken out onto STYLISH ROSIE. Rider Ben Kennedy was reprimanded under the provisions of AR 131(a) and reminded of his obligations to exercise greater care when racing in similar circumstances.

MURMURS – Returned to the enclosure displaying signs of lameness. A post-race veterinary examination revealed soreness in the near-fore suspensory. Trainer Lachie Manzelmann was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to MURMURS being permitted to race again.

SENSEI GIRL – Raced wide throughout.

STYLISH ROSIE – Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 500 metres, laid in across the heels of VAN DER WOODSEN and had to be corrected. Hampered nearing the 250 metres and was shifted wider.

LILSISTERDON'TCHA – Held up rounding the home turn and when attempting to obtain clear running near the 200 metres, shifted out hampering JUNGLE WONDER, which after also being held up, was attempting to obtain the same run.

WATEGO'S BAY – Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.

HAZ STYLES – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arrival at the barriers and was declared a late scratching at 1:03pm on veterinary advice after displaying lameness in the off-fore leg. Trainer Troy Clive was advised that HAZ STYLES must obtain a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
There were no deductions with respect to the late scratching.

BABUSHKA DOLL – Inconvenienced leaving the 250 metres when BOLD SANTOS shifted out.

TOO MUCH CHILLI – Slow to begin.

VAN DER WOODSEN – Raced wide throughout.


RACE 2: HJ CONSTRUCTIONS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 2000M

READY TIGER – Raced wide in the early stages before improving forward to obtain a leading position nearing the 1600 metres.

CARDIOLOGIST – Laid out rounding the first turn.

EAGLE WARRIOR - Held up was unable to improve rounding the home turn.

BLUEBIRD BAY – Raced wide without cover throughout. Shifted in under hard riding nearing the 400 metres, tightening the running of SAVVY THINKER which in turn shifted in, placing REDLIGHTS ON in restricted room, which was checked.

BOLD BLAZE – Held up for clear running approaching the 400 metres before shifting out after being bumped on the hind-quarters by ECLIPSION.

MEDAL (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the final straight.

ROCK THE SUNRISE – Hampered near the 400 metres and shifted in crowding EYELEFIT; Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and then had difficulty obtaining clear running throughout the final straight.

SAVVY THINKER – Shifted in after being tightened for room nearing the 400 metres.

ECLIPSION – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Checked nearing the 400 metres after being tightened for room and as a result shifted in hampering ROCK THE SUNRISE. After questing riders, Ryan Wiggans (ECLIPSION), Isabella Teh (REDLIGHTS ON), Chelsea Jokic (SAVVY THINKER) Georgina Cartwright (BOLD BLAZE) and Robbie Dolan (BLUEBIRD BAY) it was established that leaving the 400 metres BLUEBIRD BAY, which had been racing wide on the track, has shifted in dictating SAVVY THINKER, in onto the weakening REDLIGHTS ON, which in turn has shifted in dictating ECLIPSION inward onto the hind quarters of BOLD BLAZE which has become unbalanced and turned outwards, resulting in ECLIPSION being checked. Also affected in this incident was ROCK THE SUNRISE which had to be steadied and EYELEFIT which was crowded.. Rider Robbie Dolan, pled not guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) with the particulars being that leaving the 400 metres, he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear. After considering submissions the Stewards found the charge proved and after consideration of all relevant factors, rider Dolan’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days, commencing from the close of racing on Saturday the 15th of August up to and including racing on Monday the 24th of August.

TWIN TURBO – Raced greenly over the concluding stages.

BATEMANS BAY (FR) – Laid in under pressure in the final straight.

PREFER TO DANCE – Was examined by the on-course veterinarian and was shown to be displaying swelling in the left-front fetlock. Trainer Maria Potiris was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to PREFER TO DANCE being permitted to race again.

REDLIGHTS ON – Began awkwardly. Checked when conceding ground nearing the 400 metres when racing in restricted room to the inside of SAVVY THINKER.

CONVO – Raced wide without cover throughout.

EYELEFIT – Crowded for room nearing the 400 metres and had to be steadied.


RACE 3: QUEENSLAND PLASTIC SURGERY BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000M

NOLAN – Raced wide with cover throughout.

DALT JAZ – Slow to begin then hampered shortly after.

LUCKY ROLLA – Slow into stride. Raced wide with cover throughout.

IMPRESSIONISM – Raced wide throughout.

DANCE FOR ME RANDY – Began awkwardly then a short distance after the start attempted to buck when being restrained, shifted in hampering DALT JAZ. Trainer Georgie Holt was advised that DANCE FOR ME RANDY must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. Restrained off the heels of SPIRIT OF GIVING leaving the 500 metres and was unable to improve. Held up for the majority of the final straight and went to the line without being fully tested.

NORTHERNONTAP – Raced wide with cover throughout.

WINCHESTER – Raced wide without cover throughout. Rider Krysten Swaffer reported that WINCHESTER laid out throughout.

SPIRIT OF GIVING – Slow into stride.

CEEKAY'S CHOICE – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn before shifting to the outside of THEE CREEK leaving the 250 metres to improve.


RACE 4: BELLE PROPERTY BELLE OF THE BURDEKIN FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1400M

COLOURS OF AUTUMN – Slow into stride.

FROM THIS MOMENT – Over-raced in the middle stages.

LOWLANDS – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages.

THE HAIRDRESSER – Began very awkwardly and lost ground.

TIGON PRINCESS – Raced keenly in the early stages.

HOT PURSUIT – Returned to the tie-up area with blood present in both nostrils. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils on the first occasion. Under the provisions of AR79(4), HOT PURSUIT shall not be permitted to start in any race for a period of three months and must satisfactorily complete a 1000-metre gallop in the presence of a Steward prior to racing agai

LUCKY DUCK – Laid out under pressure in the final straight.

SAVEE – Put its head down on jumping, losing considerable ground. Trainer Rhonda Inglis was advised a warning would be placed on mare’s record.


RACE 5: MAGIC MILLIONS TOWNSVILLE GUINEAS QTIS 4YO HANDICAP 1609M

ILLEGAL JUSTICE – Shifted out when not clear nearing the 400 metres, resulting in AIRWAVES being checked.

MISTER DOOBEE – On returning to scale, it was established MISTER DOOBEE had competed in the race with its earmuffs remaining in place after they had not been removed prior to the start as required. While Stewards accept that the failure to remove the earmuffs on this occasion was an inadvertent oversight, the Starter was advised that appropriate procedures must be implemented to ensure a similar occurrence does not arise in the future.

BLACKTHORN – Raced wide without cover throughout.

AIRWAVES – Over-raced in the early and middle stages and was buffeted between runners for some distance nearing the 500 metres. Checked nearing the 400 metres when tightened for room by ILLEGAL JUSTICE, which shifted out to improve when not clear. Rider Dylan Turner, (ILLEGAL JUSTICE), admitted a resultant breach of AR131(a) and after consideration of penalty rider Turner’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days, commencing from the close of racing on Sunday the 16th of August up to and including racing on Tuesday the 25th of August.

GENERAL GORDON – Raced wide throughout.

SMALL TOWN HUSSLER – Lost a near-side rear plate during the event.

BONEWOOD – Shifted wider leaving the 200 metres to continue to improve.

KAJETAN – Inconvenienced nearing the 300 metres when SMALL TOWN HUSTLER laid out.

SUPID DATE- Over-raced in the early and middle stages.


RACE 6: LADBROKES TOWNSVILLE CUP 2000M

QUOTHQUAN – Gave ground nearing the 600 metres before being retired out of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off-fore fetlock. Trainer John Dann was advised that QUOTHQUAN would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

SMART LEGEND – Bumped with ELLA TE AMA on jumping.

LEG DRIVE – Raced keenly in the early stages.

ODEGAARD – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

GOING NUCLEAR – Raced wide with cover throughout.

AGED CARE – Gave ground over the latter stages and finished well back. Chelsea Jokic reported at scale that the gelding did not feel comfortable in its action in the final straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

CANBERRA LEGEND (IRE) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages before improving forward to obtain a leading position nearing the 1400 metres.

JOHN JOSEPH – Gave ground over the latter stages and finished well back. When questioned, rider Ashley Butler could offer no tangible excuses. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

THAT'S MOLLY – Slow into stride.

ELLA TE AMA – Raced wide with cover throughout. Bumped with SMART LEGEND on jumping.

THE PENSKE FILE – Raced wide without cover throughout.


RACE 7: LADBROKES CLEVELAND BAY 1300M

SPEED LEGEND – Slow to begin.

DEMON AWARD – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide without cover throughout.

YES DREAM – Approaching the 1100 metres, commenced to over-race and became awkwardly placed on the heels of HELLISH which shifted in, and a result shifted in crowding PARADE GROUND, which made contact with the running rail when being restrained. After questing riders Lacey Morrison (YES DREAM), Tahlia Fenlon (HELLISH) and Raul Silvera-Olivera (PARADE GROUND), it was established that while HELLISH had been initially clear to cross YES DREAM, that runner had then come strongly onto the bride proving very difficult for Ms. Morrison to restrain, and in consequence raced in close proximity to the heels of HELLISH for a short distance. Given all circumstances, including the racing manners of YES DREAM, rider Tahlia Fenlon was reprimanded under the provisions of AR 131(a) and advised she must remain fully clear throughout, when shifting ground.

HELLISH – Shifted in approaching the 1100 metres, placing YES DREAM, which was over-racing, in restricted room

RED HOT LIZZIE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn before shifting to the outside of OUTBACK ACTION to continue to improve leaving the 250 metres.

PARADE GROUND – Slow to begin. Crowded for room approaching the 1100 metres and contacted the running rail.

ASTRA STAR – Slow into stride.

TAMBO'S JUSTICE – Shifted in on jumping, crowding BETTERLUCKNEXTTIME. Raced wide with cover throughout.

RUSSIAN MINT – Raced keenly in the early stages.

OUTBACK ACTION – Raced wide with cover throughout.

BOLD COMIC – Began awkwardly.

BETTERLUCKNEXTTIME – Crowded on jumping. Raced wide with cover throughout.


RACE 8: GREAT NORTHERN RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1300M

AYE VEE AITCH – Laid in nearing the 1100 metres, momentarily placing CAROHVIC in restricted room.

BUBBLES'N'FROTH – Began awkwardly.

SIR MAXIMUS – Slow to begin.

TSUNAMI – Raced wide without cover throughout.

TYMON – Shifted out on jumping tightening ROWDASH. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight.

BOLD CHANGE – Began awkwardly.

GO COMMANDO (NZ) – Shifted out on jumping tightening ROWDASH.

CAROHVIC – Slow to begin. Momentarily placed in restricted room nearing the 1100 metres when AYE VEE AITCH laid in. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn up to a point approaching the 100 metres.

NAVY KISS – Over-raced in the early stages.

THE KOBAY TRAIN – Began awkwardly.

ROWDASH – Tightened for room on jumping. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

EXTRA FREE – Shifted in on jumping tightening ROWDASH. Raced wide with cover throughout. Over-raced in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the final straight.
