Race 1: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer R. Lipp for the late declaration of N. Tomizawa as the rider of RED KATE.

ZAHA COUNTY (N. Yamada) and NIK NIK (T. Brooker) made contact on jumping away.

WHO’S YOUR CADDY (A. Fancourt) and LOOK AT ANYTHING (B. Stower) made contact shortly after the start.

AGENCIA (G. Killen) raced wide throughout.

WHO’S YOUR CADDY, which hung out for the majority of the event, raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 400m ISLAND EMPIRE (R. Goltz) shifted out to obtain clear running and made contact with GUNS AT DAWN (K. Yoshida).

STAR AMORE (S. Bogenhuber) was held up for clear running and was unable to improve from the 500m to the 350m.

LOOK AT ANYTHING had a tendency to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages of the event.

On returning to scale jockey N. Yamada reported to Stewards that after obtaining a forward position ZAHA COUNTY travelled well throughout the event, however when placed under pressure rounding the home turn and in the home straight failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Trainer M. Kropp’s representative advised that despite only having one race start the gelding has been in work for a considerable period of time and following the disappointing performance tonight it is their intention to now spell ZAHA COUNTY. A post-race veterinary examination of ZAHA COUNTY failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 2: TYRRELL’S WINES CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1050M

RAINBOW MAGIC (M. Gray) raced wide throughout.

ROCK PAPER SISSORS (S. Bogenhuber) and ROSENET (N. Tomizawa) made contact shortly after the start.

MUSCOVY (A. Fancourt) hung out throughout the event. A warning was issued.

RAINBOW MAGIC laid out rounding the home turn and became unbalanced for a short distance.

THAT’S JERRY (J. Orman) laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Stewards questioned N. Tomizawa in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of ROSENET. Jockey Tomizawa advised that after beginning reasonably, ROSENET failed to muster the early speed he had anticipated and as a result settled a little further back in the field than he had planned. Jockey Tomizawa further advised that the filly travelled reasonably throughout the event, however when placed under pressure in the home straight failed to quicken with the remainder of the field, but in his opinion ran on reasonably in the home straight. Jockey Tomizawa added that based on the performance tonight, it is his opinion that the filly would be better suited in races over longer distances than tonight’s event. Trainer B. Hill agreed with jockey Tomizawa’s comments, adding that he was surprised to see ROSENET settle further back than he had anticipated. He said that as a result of this, the filly was forced to race amongst other runners, which he felt was to its detriment. A post-race veterinary examination of ROSENET revealed the filly to be exhibiting an abnormal respiratory noise. Mr Hill was advised that before ROSENET is permitted to race again he must produce a veterinary clearance for the filly, including the results of an endoscopic examination.

Race 3: MAINZ DEVELOPMENTS CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1300M

SWEET STUFF (B. Stower) jumped in at the start and made heavy contact with UNDERCOVER ALBERT (S. Bogenhuber).

LONG LEGGED LIZZIE (K. Yoshida) and FRISCO JOE (B. Ainsworth) made contact shortly after the start.

RETURN TICKET (J. Orman) threw its head in the air and raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages of the event.

FRISCO JOE raced wide throughout.

Near the 500m UNDERCOVER ALBERT and LEPRECHAUN LAD (A. Fancourt) were forced to race in restricted room to the inside of PETLEY (B. Evans), which shifted in marginally. As a result, LEPRECHAUN LAD had to be steadied and lost some ground.

FRISCO JOE shifted out rounding the home turn and as a result forced MAKOSSA (N. Yamada) wider on the track.

Near the 300m MISTER LOOSEEL (J. Letherby) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MAKOSSA, which shifted out to obtain clear running when not completely clear.

On return to scale J. Letherby reported that MISTER LOOSEEL hung out from the 600m.

Stewards questioned jockey N. Yamada in relation to his riding of MAKOSSA rounding the home turn and in the home straight. Of concern to Stewards was whether there was an opportunity for him to have maintained a trailing position behind PETLEY at that point of the race, which would have afforded him clear running directly to the outside of that runner on straightening, whereas jockey Yamada shifted to the extreme outside on turning for home to obtain clear running. Jockey Yamada advised Stewards that from the 500m, when positioned behind PETLEY, he was of the view that that runner was under pressure at that stage of the race and as his mount was travelling stronger at that point, he elected to shift to the outside of PETLEY and FRISCO JOE. Jockey Yamada added that as he is of the opinion that MAKOSSA is one-paced, he believed that this was the better option as opposed to maintaining a trailing position behind PETLEY as he was of the view that MAKOSSA would not have possessed the necessary sprint to finish off the race strongly if forced to wait until straightening to obtain clear running. Whilst Stewards noted the explanation tendered by jockey Yamada, they were nevertheless of the view that it would have been more advantageous for jockey Yamada to trail PETLEY around the home turn with the view of obtaining clear running. As Stewards did not believe that jockey Yamada’s riding had fallen below the required standard so as to be culpable under the rules, no action was taken.

Race 4: CHANNEL SEVEN MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M

SHE’S LIKE TOM (N. Yamada), REDREKA (B. Stower) and VIVID IMAGINATION (S. Bogenhuber) were slow to begin.

RAIN SPELL (M. Gray) began very awkwardly.

REDREKA (B. Stower) shifted out abruptly near the 700m and as a result raced wide during the middle stages of the event.

VIVID IMAGINATION overraced in the middle stages and as a result was shifted wider on the track near the 700m to avoid the heels of MANNER LASSIE (T. Brooker).

VIVID IMAGINATION laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight and approaching the 100m then shifted out, resulting in MANNER LASSIE shifting out to avoid that runner’s heels.

On returning to scale T. Brooker reported that MANNER LASSIE hung out for the majority of the event.

Race 5: HANNAS TOOWOOMBA MAIDEN H'CAP – 1625M

As G. Killen was to be overweight, J. Letherby was substituted as the rider of LITTLE AUDREY. After taking into account jockey Killen’s excellent record and that this was the first occasion on which he had been overweight, Stewards issued a reprimand.

Trainer T. Sears advised Stewards that BOOTALONG (B. Stower), which was ridden forward at its most recent start, would be ridden further back in the field tonight if circumstances permit. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Mr Sears regarding the late notification of this change of tactics. After beginning well BOOTALONG raced keenly in the early stages and as a result raced in a forward position.

SPIRITED SAINT (M. Hellyer) began very awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition and as a result lost ground.

Near the 1400m DEUTERONOMY (N. Yamada) raced in restricted room to the inside of LITTLE AUDREY (J. Letherby), which was taken in by CASA CIELLO (S. Bogenhuber).

CASA CIELLO and LATARNO (T. Brooker) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 1200m LITTLE AUDREY threw its head in the air whilst being restrained and lost some ground. As a result, HENNY BOY (J. Orman), which was following, had to be restrained to avoid that runner’s heels.

Near the 550m HENNY BOY was checked when disappointed for a run between CASA CIELLO and LITTLE AUDREY, which shifted out to avoid the heels of the tiring BOOTALONG, and as a result lost ground.

Near the 350m SPIRITED SAINT was tightened for room between HENNY BOY, which shifted in marginally, and DEUTERONOMY, which shifted out after improving on to the heels of the tiring ABSOLUTE MUSIC (K. Yoshida). As a result, SPIRITED SAINT was buffeted and then shifted out resulting in HENNY BOY being forced to shift out, resulting in CASA CIELLO being tightened for room and checked. Whilst Stewards noted the incident was one of some significance, after reviewing the available patrol footage, which Stewards deemed inconclusive, they were unable to attribute full blame to any one rider, however jockey Yamada (DEUTERONOMY) was reminded of his obligations in respect of shifting ground when not sufficiently clear.

Near the 50m SPIRITED SAINT shifted in and bumped DEUTERONOMY.

Following the uncompetitive performance of BOOTALONG tonight, trainer T. Sears and connections both advised that the gelding will now be retired from racing. Mr Sears was nevertheless advised that should BOOTALONG race again, it will be required to officially barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to its next race start.

ABSOLUTE MUSIC bled from both nostrils. As this was the first occasion on which the mare has bled, trainer G. Heinrich was advised that ABSOLUTE MUSIC would be ineligible to race for a period of 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.

The veterinary surgeon reported that LITTLE AUDREY was galloped on on the off hind leg.

Stewards questioned apprentice J. Orman in relation to his riding of HENNY BOY in the home straight. Of concern to Stewards was the reason for apprentice Orman shifting wider on the track near the 200m when there appeared to be a run present itself between HOGWOBBLE (B. Appo) and LITTLE AUDREY. Apprentice Orman advised Stewards that he was instructed to position HENNY BOY wider on the track through the middle stages of the event to enable it to improve into the race, however after sustaining interference near the 550m and again rounding the home turn, was unable to do so. Apprentice Orman added that whilst a run did present itself between HOGWOBBLE and LITTLE AUDREY, bearing in mind his instructions, he was reluctant to improve into this run and therefore shifted to the outside of LITTLE AUDREY at that stage of the race. Jockey Orman, after having the opportunity to view the patrol footage, agreed with Stewards that he had erred in his riding in not improving between HOGWOBBLE and LITTLE AUDREY by shifting to the outside of the heels of LITTLE AUDREY. Stewards, bearing in mind apprentice Orman’s relative inexperience, took the matter no further other than to remind him to ride his mounts at all times in such a manner as not to leave his riding open to question.

Race 6: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1625M

YOUR GIRL OR MINE (B. Stower) raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

ANIKINTIME (J. Orman) overraced in the middle stages.

ILLUDE (J. Letherby) raced wide from the 900m.

Race 7: THRIFTY CAR & TRUCK RENTALS BM80 H'CAP – 1100M

TAIMZUPTINA (N. Tomizawa) was slow to begin.
