GENERAL
From Toowoomba, 3.1.15
Race 5 - Trainer P. Facoory reported that A Ladys Compliment had pulled up well with no abnormalities since its disappointing performance however felt that the mare had come to the end of its preparation and had now been sent for a spell.
Licensed bookmaker P. Kynoch was reminded of his obligations under the provisions of LR85(1)(d) with regards to being absent from his betting stand.

As L. Williams and B. Appo were indisposed, and S. Drake was not clear to ride at this meeting, rider changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Neil Mansell Concrete QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 1200m
CHARSOOKA – Trainer F. Carter contacted stewards and advised them that whilst the gelding was being loaded onto the float, it had sustained an injury to its near fore leg and was unfit to start. Stewards ordered the late scratching of the horse at 1pm. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be produced prior to its next race start.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by the connections of Burmese Ruby, placed 2nd, against the winner, Bold Navigator for alleged interference over the final 150m. After considering submissions from all relevant parties and viewing the official patrol films, stewards established that Burmese Ruby shifted to the inside of Bold Navigator near the 200m to obtain clear running and that near 120m Bold Navigator laid in towards Burmese Ruby for a number of strides before being straightened by its rider near the 80m, at which point both runners then ran straight to the finish of the race. Stewards in considering all of the evidence found that Burmese Ruby did not sustain any interference as a result of Bold Navigator laying in towards it, and therefore dismissed the protest and gave correct weight on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.
HERRSCHAFT – Slow to begin. Bumped approaching the home turn.
STORMY GREY – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 900m became unbalanced for several strides when racing on the rail.
RAYS ARE LUCKY – Bumped at the start. Inclined to lay in approaching the 900m and made contact with another runner for a number of strides. Inclined to lay in despite the efforts of its rider near the 400m.
BOLD NAVIGATOR – Bumped at the start. Raced wide without cover.
ELIZONDO – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Shifted out abruptly to avoid heels leaving the 1000m. Bumped approaching the home turn.
STEP POTENTIAL - Tightened for room shortly after the start.
TRIPLE JEOPARDY – Bumped for a number of strides approaching the 900m and became unbalanced.
TUNE UP WARRIOR – Tightened for room near the 400m when racing between runners and lost ground.
OMEGA – Inclined to lay in in the early stages of the straight and proved difficult to ride.
CITY OF DISCOVERY – Rider B. Evans reported that the horse made a respiratory noise in the home straight and on pulling up. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have an airway obstruction. Trainer B. Ahrens will be advised that the horse will be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards, with the results of an endoscopic examination and veterinary clearance forwarded to stewards.
Race 2: Wimmers Premium Soft Drinks Class 2 H'cap – 1200m
PERISHA – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground. Checked from heels and lost ground near the 800m. Tightened for room passing the winning post.
WINNER WIMMER – Apprentice E. Ljung pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1100m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Cantbuybetter, which was forced to check and as a result made contact with Relentless Heart. E. Ljung was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 17 January and to expire at midnight, 30 January.
CANTBUYBETTER – Checked near 1100m.
RELENTLESS HEART – Bumped near the 1100m.
DIAGNOSE – Tightened for room and eased near the 1000m. Tightened for room passing the winning post.
RED KISSES – Bumped by another runner approaching the 900m and taken wider on the track. Jockey S. Bogenhuber pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, the specifics being that near the 850m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CEBILE, resulting in that runner having to be checked by its rider to avoid the heels of Red Kisses. S. Bogenhuber was suspended from riding in races for a period 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 17 January and to expire at midnight, 28 January.
CEBILE – Bumped near the 1100m. Checked to avoid heels near the 850m.
DAZZLING HALO – Eased from heels and lost ground near the 800m.
CLEVER FORTUNE – Slow to begin. Tightened for room passing the winning post.
PURE SHORES – When the pace of the race eased leaving the 1000m, was steadied from heels and shifted out. Apprentice N. Ogura as fined $100 for failing to ride his mount out to the finish of the race. Rider N. Ogura was severely reprimanded for causing a tightening passing the winning post and advised to make greater effort to straighten his mounts when they shift ground.
Race 3: Neil Mansell Group Benchmark 75 H'cap – 1000m
JOHNNYDRAMA - Trainer J. Judge contacted stewards and advised them that the gelding had shifted its near hind plate in its box and as a result was lame and unfit to start. The horse was declared a late scratching at 3.37pm. Trainer J. Judge was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to its next start.
HI HI – Slow to begin.
BOSS BART – When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey S. Bogenhuber stated that she rode forward in accordance with her instructions however was mindful not to get into speed battle as this could have an effect on the horse’s finishing ability. She added her mount travelled well to a point near the 600m but failed to respond to her riding from that point and proved most disappointing. Stewards will inquire into the reasons for Boss Bart leaving the track before the required time and will interview trainer T. Sears regarding the horse’s post race recovery.
Race 4: Tyrrell’s Wines Class 1 H'cap – 1050m
POCILLO – Steadied away from heels shortly after the start when tightened for room.
AERIAL PING PONG – Rider R. Goltz attempted to restrain his mount near the 850m when racing extremely wide in an effort to come back and obtain cover closer to the rail. Near the 800m threw its head in the air when bumped by another runner.
STARWOOD – Ducked in leaving the 100m. Jockey C. Maund reported at scale his mount was forced to race 3 wide throughout the event, and that the gelding was under pressure from the 400m and when asked for an effort failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing.
MARKSFIELD – Raced wide throughout.
JAI’S LUCK – Raced wide throughout.
MURPHY’S SUNRISE – A post race veterinary examination of the horse which raced uncompetitive throughout the event, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer G. Betros was advised that the mare will be barred from TAB meetings until it establishes more competitive form on country race tracks.
Race 5: Lion Nathan Maiden H'cap – 1050m
SPINTHESONY – Trainer S. Iverson was fined $100 for the late declaration of E. Ljung as the rider of Spinthesony. Trainer S. Iverson advised stewards it was the intention to ride the gelding in behind the leaders if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
WEE DRAGON – Bumped at the start. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages requiring the rider to stop riding and straighten.
FIBRO – Bumped at the start.
ZENA THE GODDESS – Slow to muster speed at the start.
WE WANT PRENUP – Improved onto heels and had to be checked near the 750m. When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey G. Geran stated that after having to be checked off heels near the 750m, the horse commenced to hang slightly and was immediately under pressure from that point which required him to ride his mount along from that point. G. Geran was unable to explain the performance other than the horse may benefit with the addition of blinkers and over further ground. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
TENT SILENCE – Steadied from heels at the 800m.
ALL OF US – Momentarily tightened for room and became unbalanced at the 800m.
DEAR MARY – Bumped near the 600m and became unbalanced. Hung out rounding the home turn. Jockey B. Evans was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 800m, resulting in tightening to several runners.
VIVID IMAGINATION – Raced wide from the 600m.
Race 6: Strathayr Maiden Plate – 1625m
PINK CHAPERONE – Sprawled as the gates opened and as a result lost considerable ground. Laid in over the concluding stages.
OUR PLAYDOUGH – Raced greenly in the early stages and made contact with the rail near the 1300m. Held up for a short distance leaving the 600m. Laid in rounding the home turn.
KAMIRI LAD – Laid in over the concluding stages.
BULLDOG’S PRIDE – Raced wide throughout.
Race 7: Charlton Tyre Service Class 4 H'cap – 1625m
UNIQUE MISTIQUE – Declared a late scratching at 8.48 pm on veterinary advice after being kicked in the enclosure. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on Unique Mistique were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable to successful wagers place prior to the withdrawal time:
22 cents in the dollar for the Win #1
13 cents in the dollar for place of winner #1
37 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #7
SP bets are not subject to deduction.
