As T. Williams was indisposed, rider changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: XXXX Gold QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate – 1000m
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, S. Apthorpe, rider of the 4th placed WE’RE BLESSED, T. Brooker, rider of the 3rd placed STRIDE OF PRIDE, and S. Iverson, the trainer of both of these runners viewed the patrol films to determine if there were grounds for protest against BOOM SHUCKA being declared second for alleged interference near the 200m. After viewing the patrol films, all parties elected not to proceed with lodging a protest in view of the significant finishing margins between the relevant horses at the conclusion of the event.
COLLAR’S UP – Bumped at the start. Commenced to hang out from the 700m and shifted wider on the track and as a result lost considerable ground. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer S. Iverson was advised that the filly would be required to perform satisfactorily in a trial prior to its next race start.
BOOM SHUCKA – Bumped at the start. Hung out rounding the home turn.
WE’RE BLESSED – Tightened for room and severely checked passing the 200m
STRIDE OF PRIDE – Tightened for room and severely checked passing the 200m. G. Geran, rider of BOOM SHUCKA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that after passing the 200m he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting out, resulting in WE’RE BLESSED and STRIDE OF PRIDE being tightened for room and severely checked by their riders. Jockey Geran was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 13 days, commence at midnight, 31 October and to expire at midnight, 13 November. In assessing penalty stewards took into account the degree of interference caused in this incident.
Race 2: Toowoomba West Special School Class 1 H'cap – 1000m
AL’S DELIGHT – Became fractious in the enclosure and made contact with the fence. The gelding was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. After becoming fractious in the barriers, the gelding was removed from the gates, examined by the veterinary surgeon and deemed unsuitable to start and was declared a late scratching at 5.28 pm with the following deductions applicable.
4 cents in the dollar for the Win #4
5 cents in the dollar for place of winner #4
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #3
7 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #6
SP bets are subject to deductions
Trainer G. Banks was advised that a further barrier certificate must be provided for the gelding prior to its next race start.
ROYAL HOOTENANNY – Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground. Forced to steady at the 700m to avoid the heels of UNO BEST, which shifted out when not completely clear. K. Yoshida, rider of UNO BEST, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Laid in in the home straight. Jockey S. Bogenhuber was questioned in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance. She advised that despite losing ground at the start and meeting with some interference near the 700m, the filly travelled well during the event and coming to the home turn she felt she was still in a position to win the event., however when placed under pressure her mount ran on only fairly in the home straight and proved somewhat disappointing. Jockey Bogenhuber went on to say that, in her opinion, she believed the filly got her tongue back during the event and recommended to the trainer that he apply a tongue tie to the filly for its next race start.
ISTALENA – Began awkwardly.
SQUEEMI – Momentarily steadied approaching the 500m when racing in restricted room for a short distance.
UNO BEST – Laid in in the home straight.
DRINKING COCKTAILS - Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 3: C N K Electrical Pty Ltd Class 4 H'cap - 1050m
No racing incidents.
Race 4: K&R Plumbing Supplies Class 2 H'cap – 1200m
NADOR – As B. Appo was to be overweight, apprentice B. Newport was substituted as the rider of NADOR as no senior rider was available. B. Appo was fined $100.
CODE ONE – Began awkwardly and shifted in, bumping another runner.
BONNAY FLYER – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Brushed the running rail near the 900m when racing in restricted room for a short distance.
VIVA LA PROXY – Began awkwardly.
PENHALE SANDS – Near the 150m, improved onto heels of a tiring runner and had to be checked. Buffeted between runners over the concluding stags when attempting to obtain clear running.
CAPTAIN WINGS – Raced wide throughout.
SIROCAN – Jockey R. Goltz pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CODE ONE, resulting in that horse being tightened for room and checked by its rider. Jockey Goltz was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight, 1 November and to expire at midnight, 9 November. In assessing penalty stewards determined this incident to be in the low range of carelessness. At the request of jockey Goltz, a post race veterinary examination was undertaken where no abnormalities were detected. Trainer R. Smith advised that in light of jockey Goltz’s report following the event, she would now have her veterinary surgeon undertake a full veterinary examination of the horse in the days subsequent to the event, the results of which she will report to stewards.

DUKE OF KINGSFORD - Jockey C. Small, rider of PINK CHAPERONE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that at approximately the 1600m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of DUKE OF KINGSFORD, resulting in that runner having to be checked to avoid the heels of PINK CHAPERONE and lose its rightful running. Jockey Small was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight, 24 October and to expire at midnight, 1 November.
