Race 1: WHOLESALE HORSEWEAR HOUSE CLASS 3 PLATE – 1050M

The start of this race was delayed to allow the broadcast of an interstate event.

CARRANGALL – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

BOTTARGA – Checked when tightened for room near the 750M. At a subsequent inquiry, Beau Appo, the rider of LOVE SPY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at that point he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BOTTARGA.  Beau Appo’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 13 May 2017 and expire at midnight on Monday 22 May 2017.

CASSE BLEU – Bumped by another runner near the 550M.  Checked to avoid heels for some distance passing the 150M.

CASTANITA – Began awkwardly.

LOVE SPY – Prior to the race, Trainer B. Currie reported to Stewards that the filly, which was first up from a lengthy spell today, sustained a pelvic injury following its last start.  Trainer B. Currie later advised that whilst, on face value, the performance of the filly was disappointing in tonight’s event, as the horse was resuming off a 13 month spell it will derive a significant fitness benefit from tonight’s event, and he is hopeful of an improved performance at its next start.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 2: HANNAS BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1200M

CAPTAIN CLAYTON – Bumped on jumping away.  Raced wide throughout the event.

SMASHED IT – Bumped on jumping away.

LOADED AND READY – Began awkwardly.  Steadied to avoid the heels of LADY DICTATOR, which shifted in when racing ungenerously.

LADY DICTATOR – Began awkwardly and lost ground.  Raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event.

BAY HERO – Bumped at the start.  Raced 4 wide without cover for the majority of the event.

Following the running of this race the track was downgraded to a Soft 5 (retrospective to include Race 2).

Race 3: QUEENSLAND ELECTRICAL SOLUTIONS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1300M

I’VE GOT FRIENDS – Raced keenly in the early stages and was restrained from heels.

COLLYWOBBLE – Laid in during the middle stages of the event.

SMOOCH – When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance of the filly, which drifted noticeably in the betting, Trainer B. Currie advised that the filly had been working well in preparation for tonight’s event, and other than the fact that the filly may have come to the end of its preparation, and that the horse was stepping up in distance from 1000M to 1300M, he could offer no other explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance tonight.  Trainer B. Currie added that he now intends to send the filly for a spell.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  A swab sample was taken from the horse.

BLETCHY BOY – Turned its head to the side as the start was effected and lost ground.

Race 4: RAY WESTON CONSTRUCTIONS MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M

This event was raced in heavy fog.

RED LINES – Bumped heavily at the start by another runner.

Race 5: CRAIG’S ENGINEERING QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

The start of this race was delayed when a number of runners were reluctant to proceed to the barriers.

BAGGINS – Raced wide throughout.  On returning to scale, Apprentice M. Schrapel advised that, in his opinion, the gelding was not entirely comfortable on tonight’s prevailing track conditions.

PHAR CZAR – Steadied when attempting to obtain a narrow run near the 300M.

MANTRACKEN – Bumped on jumping away.

THE CAPTAIN’S LADY – Bumped on jumping away.

Race 6: NEIL MANSELL TRANSPORT CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1625M

EIGHT CHANCE – Overraced in the early stages.

AKUA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.  After being caught wide in the early stages, Apprentice B. Stower allowed her mount to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1100M.

Race 7: QRIC CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1200M

REBEL ROVER – Began awkwardly.  Bumped heavily by another runner shortly after the start.  Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages.

CREDIT CARD MISS – Began awkwardly.  Bumped heavily by another runner shortly after the start.

RA RA EPIC – Momentarily raced in restricted room near the 150M.  Jockey Beau Appo was issued a charge under AR. 137(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the conclusion of the event.  Jockey Appo pleaded not guilty to the charge.  In defending the charge, jockey Appo stated that for some distance in the home straight CREDIT CARD MISS had raced erratically and shifted ground on a number of occasions, and approaching the finish line, when closely positioned at the heels of that runner, jockey Appo was of the opinion that CREDIT CARD MISS had commenced to shift in, and therefore he elected to stop riding as he was mindful that he also had a horse to his inside.  Stewards, after considering jockey Appo’s submissions, were of the opinion that the charge could not be sustained.
