GENERAL

Following the running of Race 2 Stewards conducted an inspection of both the male and female jockeys’ rooms to ascertain whether any mobile phones were present. As a result, mobile phones were provided to Stewards by jockey J. Oliver and Apprentice J. Hodge. Jockey Oliver pleaded guilty to a charge under rule AR. 160B(3) and was fined $200. Apprentice J. Hodge also pleaded guilty to a charge under rule AR. 160B(3) and was fined $200.


Race 1: WATTLES WARRIORS RESERVE GRADE CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1000M

MR HENNESSY – Hampered when tightened for room by HE’S A WITNESS (Apprentice B. Nothdurft) which shifted in approaching the 100m. Apprentice Nothdurft was reprimanded as a result of this incident.

RA RA EPIC – Raced 3 wide for the majority. Had to be steadied when racing in restricted room between HARIIR to its outside and NOVARUPTA to its inside leaving the 400m, and subsequently lost ground when NOVARUPTA (V. Johnston) shifted out marginally. Jockey V. Johnston was issued with a reprimand and advised to use more care when shifting out in similar circumstances in the future.

WILL TO RULE – Held up for clear running after passing the 200m, and was subsequently unable to obtain clear running over the concluding stages.

HARIIR - Due to a clerical error, jockey A. Denby was displayed in some publications as claiming 2 kilograms in this event when in fact jockey Denby is a senior rider and unable claim a weight allowance. Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

NOVARUPTA – Had to be steadied when racing in restricted room between runners leaving the 800m. Had a tendency to race greenly throughout the event.









Race 2: ROSCO REVOLUTION BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1200M

MARKSFIELD – Bumped by another runner shortly after the start. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, Apprentice R. Ride advised that her instructions were to settle her mount in a midfield position if possible, however after beginning well the gelding commenced to overrace, and after being caught wide approaching the first turn she allowed her mount to stride forward to obtain the lead leaving the 900m. Apprentice R. Ride was fined $300 for using the whip 12 times and in consecutive strides on 2 occasions prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account the number of whip strikes over the totality of the race which was deemed to be excessive.

STARWOOD – Bumped between runners when racing in restricted room shortly after the start.

OMISSION – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

PICK OF THE PUBS – Shifted in and bumped another runner shortly after the start. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.



Race 3: RAY MURPHY QUARRIES CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1625M

After commencing an inquiry, and taking preliminary evidence from Trainer G. Schwenke, jockey L. McCoy, Apprentice R. Ride and Apprentice S. Sweeney regarding the racing tactics adopted by Apprentice Ride and jockey McCoy, Stewards elected to adjourn the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed to allow the Stewards to review the Stewards patrol footage and to review footage of the racing tactics adopted by their respective mounts in previous events.

HOWNOWBROWNCOW – Bumped by another runner passing the 600m, and as a result became awkward and unbalanced.

MOSS GO NOW – Held up approaching the 400m and forced wider on the track by another runner rounding the home turn.

KNIGHT ERRANT – Held up for clear running approaching the 400m until a point passing the 300m.

FLYING SEBA – Bumped by KNIGHT ERRANT, which was endeavouring to obtain clear running, approaching the 300m. Rider C. Eaton momentarily lost the use of the off side iron when bumped rounding the home turn.

MARLAHN – Raced 3 wide in the early and middle stages until a point near the 800m when the gelding obtained a position outside the lead.



Race 4: SATURDAYS ARE FOR THE BOYS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

BLACK CRUSADE – Raced wide in the middle stages.

TWILIGHT MANEUVER – Had to be steadied away from heels approaching the 350m.

OCCHILUPO – When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance, jockey J. Oliver stated that, in his opinion, the colt was disappointing over the final 400m, however he could offer no explanation for the poor performance. Trainer B. Currie was unable to offer any reason for the disappointing performance. Mr Currie stated that since its last run he has freshened the horse up and it has worked well leading up to tonight’s event and that he expected a forward showing. Mr Currie said that he would give consideration to its current preparation. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

SIR BAM – Raced 3 wide without cover in the early stages.

ARMA DE FUEGO – Held up for clear running and had to be steadied approaching the 400m.

HESSIAN – Raced wide throughout.

I AM THE WARRIOR – Slow to begin.


Race 5: SHEIDS PORK & CO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M

SCANDALS – Slow to begin.

AUSTRALIAN PHAROAH – Approaching the 800m clipped heels and blundered when overracing.

THE FAB THREE – Slow to begin. Overraced and shifted wider on the track when attempting to improve passing the 800m.

DANISH DRAMA – Slow to begin. Commenced to overrace when the pace slackened approaching the 800m and subsequently became awkward when placed in restricted room.

ORBITAL – Raced in a handy position until the filly commenced to weaken at a point passing the 500m, and subsequently finished last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

ROSE KIYOMI – Raced wide throughout.

BIG THUNDER – Overraced and had to be steadied away from heels passing the 1000m.

TYLERS MISTAKE – Began very awkwardly and lost considerable ground.


Race 6: MICHAEL CRANK DRILLING QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1625M

BOOF ED – Began awkwardly.

CHINESE DYNASTY – Overraced and raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.

LOSING AIR – Slow to begin and hampered shortly after jumping away. Raced wide throughout. Severely hampered when weakening approaching the 500m by the tiring CHINESE DYNASTY.

ROOSTER HUNTER – Held up from a point passing the 400m to the 300m and then clipped heels and blundered passing the 300m.

BALLINA BAY – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Trainer B. Hudson regarding the late declaration of H. Phillips as rider.

READY SEQ GO – Began awkwardly.

RED GERANIUM – Hampered between runners on jumping away.








Race 7: JACK DUGGAN BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 2000M

On pulling up, jockey B. Appo dismounted from RHIATTEN ROAD, the third place getter, as he was suffering an asthma attack. Jockey Appo was therefore unable to weigh in. As the Stewards were satisfied that Jockey Appo had weighed out correctly, and acting on the provisions of AR. 142, Stewards gave correct weight on the semaphored numbers. Jockey B. Appo was advised that he will require a medical clearance prior to riding again.

RHIATENN ROAD – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have lacerations to the inside of both hind legs.

LAKOTA SIOUX – Commended to overrace passing the winning post on the first occasion and had to be checked off the heels of another runner on a number of occasions. Jockey K. Yoshida allowed his mount to stride forward approaching the 1400m to obtain a position outside the leader.
