Urine samples were taken from a number of riders at the meeting today.

Race 1: HYGAIN TRACKTORQUE MAIDEN H’CAP – 1050M

SICK’EM REX – Checked badly when tightened for room shortly after the start and, as a result, lost ground.

WAIT A MINUTE – Bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced shortly after the start. When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer M. Kropp advised that the gelding was having its second race start today and had therefore derived significant experience from this race start. He added that, in his opinion, the gelding failed to handle the soft track conditions at its first start, and with the addition of blinkers to the horse’s gear today, the stable was confident of an improved performance. He also went on to say that the gelding had shown ability when it was successful in jumpouts prior to its first race start. Stewards noted the explanation.

DANNIWILLBREEZEONBY – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start. Steadied when placed in restricted room approaching the 900m. Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

HARRYANDTHETIGER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

WICKATAQ – Bumped heavily on the hindquarters shortly after the start, and was then buffeted between runners and lost ground. Jockey L. McCoy was fined $100 for using the whip on her mount which was out of contention.

DARK ROCKER – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

ALTERNATE ROUTE – As T. Brooker was to be overweight, Apprentice B. Nothdurft was initially substituted as rider, however when Apprentice Nothdurft advised shortly after the scratching deadline that he would be unable to arrive on course by the required time, Stewards permitted the late declaration of Andrew Spinks as rider. Jockey T. Brooker was fined $100. Laid out rounding the home turn.

DREAM PIECE – Buffeted between runners on jumping away.

SOWHAT IMAROCKSTAR – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority.

TEKKEN WARRIOR – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start.

Race 2: MITAVITE ATHLETE MAIDEN H’CAP – 1625M

INTERFLORA EXPRESS – After being caught wide in the early stages, Apprentice E. Ljung permitted her mount to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 750m.

PHOENIX FLYER – Trainer M. Boland was fined $100 for failing to present the gelding on course by the prescribed time. A pre-race swab sample was taken from the gelding. Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn.

C’MOME PADDYREILLY – Steadied from heels approaching the 400m.

OSMOND – Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority.

EXCEEDINGLY BRAVE – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

SWING SHIFT – Steadied when placed in restricted room shortly after the start and, as a result, lost ground.

TEYA – Laid out whilst overracing rounding the turn near the 1300m.

WANTABEA – Steadied when placed in restricted room shortly after the start.

Following the running of this race at the pull-up, Apprentice N. Keal took ill and dismounted from his mount. As a result, C’MOME PADDYREILLY took fright and dislodged Apprentice M. Wishart. Apprentice Wishart was assessed by Queensland Ambulance Officers and transported to hospital by ambulance for further observation. Apprentice N. Keal was stood down from his remaining engagements due to illness. Riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 3: HYGAIN RELEASE QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M

The start time of this race was amended to 2.10pm to enable a replacement ambulance to arrive on course.

FURY OF THE STORM – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping away and became unbalanced. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

GRAND BARRAIL – Hung out rounding the home turn.

MINOR LUCK – Began awkwardly.

TOUGH TIMES – Bumped on jumping away.

GUNNOBE – Raced wide from the 750m.

Race 4: BONAFIDE BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1625M

Due to the delay following Race 2, the start time of this race as amended to 2.43pm.

NAMIB – A post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which performed below market expectation, revealed no apparent abnormalities. Apprentice A. Thompson could offer no explanation for the seemingly poor performance of the mare other than that it did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race.

TOAN THANG – Bumped rounding the home turn.

UNIQUE MISTIQUE – Raced wide throughout.

CHOPPA – Stewards permitted jockey M. Crawford to replace Apprentice M. Wishart when none of the available apprentices were able to claim. Overraced in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer G. Sitek was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing.

Race 5: KNIGHTS COMMERCIAL LAUNDRY CLASS 5 PLATE – 1200M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards viewed the photo finish print for 4th. After viewing the print, they were satisfied with the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

EL VENETIAN – Raced wide throughout.

BRED FOR LUCK – Slow into stride. Stewards questioned Trainer T. Pascoe in relation to the performance of the mare which drifted noticeably in the betting. Mr. Pascoe advised that the mare was starting first up from a significant spell today, and had trialled only fairly in preparation for this race. Notwithstanding, Mr. Pascoe was satisfied with the horse’s preparation and advised that, in his opinion, it is better suited over further distances than that of today’s race. He went on to say that, given the extended lay-off, the horse will derive a significant fitness benefit from the race today. Stewards noted the explanation.

CONQUERING LASS – Stewards permitted jockey J. Orman to replace Apprentice N. Keal when none of the available apprentices were able to claim. Slow to begin. Steadied when disappointed for a run near the 500m.

Race 6: VALE STEVE BRENNAN COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES BENCHMARK 58 H’CAP – 1050M

JONDY DES – Raced wide without cover for the majority.

BABY MERLIN – Raced wide for the majority.

MIGHTY MOOSE – Lost the off-hind plate in running.

KIBBIT RAHEEB – After becoming fractious in the enclosure and making contact with the enclosure fence, the gelding was examined by the veterinary surgeon upon arriving at the barriers and was passed fit to start.

MASSIVE ATTACK – Raced wide throughout.

Race 7: FURNEYS STOCKFEEDS FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 58 H’CAP – 1050M

Upon arriving at the barriers, MILLY MUNCHER underwent a veterinary examination at the request of its rider. All monies invested on MILLY MUNCHER were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable.

6 cents in the dollar for the Win #6
6 cents in the dollar for place of winner #6

SOLO MELODY – Forced wider on the track by TIZ (T. Brooker) leaving the 100m when that runner was taken out by CAPITAL CITY (App. S. Lacy) which shifted out under pressure. Apprentice S. Lacy was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.

MY LITTLE DIVA – A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities, however trainer S. Sixtus reported that she would forward to Stewards the results of an endoscopic examination she intended to have carried out on the horse.

TIZ – Stewards permitted jockey T. Brooker to replace Apprentice M. Wishart when none of the available apprentices were able to claim.
