GENERAL

As N. Thomas was not attending the meeting today due to injury, a riding replacement was made in Races 2 and 8 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

As A. Allen was not attending the meeting today due to illness, a riding replacement was made in Race 4 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

The start of Race 1 was delayed when both the Ambulance and the veterinarian were late arriving on course.

Due to the delay prior to the start of Race 1, the start times of Races 2 and 3 were amended as follows:

Race 2 – 4.35pm
Race 3 – 5.05pm

Race 1: TAB MAIDEN H’CAP – 1625M

LOLLIELUCAS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the presence of blood in one nostril. As the veterinary surgeon was satisfied that the presence of blood was as a result of external trauma, no further action was taken.

BARTA LINES – Shifted out abruptly of its own accord shortly after the start.

SARASUN – Began awkwardly. Had difficulty securing clear running for some distance when awkwardly placed at heels approaching the 400m before being eased passing the 400m.

MULHOLLAND MAN – After being caught wide in the early stages, the gelding was allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain the leading position approaching the 1300m.

ABSOLUTE GLORY – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey J. Bayliss advised that the filly travelled comfortably throughout, however it failed to quicken with other runners when asked to do so, ran on only fairly and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be exhibiting heat stress and a poor post-race recovery.

DOMO – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.

OCTAVIAN – Bumped heavily by another runner shortly after the start and, as a result, lost ground. Steadied and momentarily forced wider on the track near the 1500m.

OUR RED JET – Steadied to avoid heels shortly after the start. Checked to avoid heels near the 1500m.

UNUSUAL AUNT – Laid out and made the turn near the 1200m awkwardly.

SHEINDLIN – Began awkwardly.

Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred near the 1500m where LOLLIELUCAS (App. N. Fazackerley) was tightened for room and checked and BARTA LINES (App. N. Masuda) clipped heels and blundered after being tightened for room. After taking evidence from a number of riders and viewing the patrol footage, Stewards found that LOLLIELUCAS was checked near the 1500m when racing between SHEINDLIN (App. M. Shimodaira) and OCEAN WATCH (L. Tilley) which hung out and shifted wider despite the efforts of its rider. A short distance later BARTA LINES, after being bumped by SHEINDLIN, which shifted out marginally, was checked badly and almost fell after making contact with the hindquarters of SARASUN (S. Bogenhuber) which shifted in at that point of the race. As Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the shift from jockey S. Bogenhuber was the sole contributor to this incident, bearing in mind the minor shift outwards from SHEINDLIN, they afforded jockey Bogenhuber the benefit of the doubt and took the matter no further.

Race 2: FURNEYS QTIS 3YO CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1100M

ICED – Declared a late scratching at 10.00am for veterinary reasons.

RAPIDO GRIS – Slow to begin. Apprentice A. Thompson reported that his mount failed to muster early speed despite his urgings.  He added however that from the 500m where he improved to the outside of runners, the gelding ran on well and, in his opinion, would be better suited in races over a further distance moving forward in its preparation.

MISHANI COURAGE – Jockey J. Orman reported that his mount hung in under pressure in the home straight.

STAR CENTRE – Slow to begin.

QUART POT – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

KASITA – Jockey N. Evans was reprimanded for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

DAME ELLIE – Raced in restricted room and was eased near the 900m. Had some difficulty securing clear running over the final 100m and was steadied at the conclusion of the race.

KEEP ON LOVING YOU – Held up rounding the home turn.

Race 5: WHOLESALE HORSEWEAR HOUSE CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1300M

FAT MAX – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, Apprentice N. Fazackerley advised that his mount travelled well in a forward position throughout. He added that the gelding was momentarily held up at a point rounding the home turn however when able to quicken in the home straight, the gelding failed to do so and proved disappointing. Trainer K. Kemp could offer no explanation for the performance other than that, in his opinion, the gelding is better suited when able to secure clear running to the outside of runners and build its momentum in the home straight, and was therefore disadvantaged by being held up rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Bayliss, the rider of 2nd placegetter SCOTTISH LAD, to view the patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against SWING SHIFT being declared the winner. After viewing the films, jockey J. Bayliss indicated that he did not wish to proceed, and correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers.
