STEWARDS REPORT

TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB – SATURDAY 25 JULY 2020

RAIL – 5M
PENETROMETER – 5.2
TRACK RATING –  SOFT 5
                                    SOFT 7 (AT 3PM)

Judge – M. Fahey, S. Fahey
Veterinarian – Dr. G. Johnston

GENERAL

Due to continued light rainfall throughout the afternoon, Stewards downgraded the track from a Soft 5 to a Soft 7 at 3.00pm.

Race 1: JOE WAGNER GROUP CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1000M

HAUTCLERE – Stewards questioned Apprentice M. Kennedy in relation to her riding of the gelding throughout the race. Of concern to Stewards was whether there was an opportunity for Apprentice Kennedy to ease her mount and give it a more comfortable run after finding a leading position approaching the 800m. Apprentice Kennedy advised that when preparing for the race, she had formed the opinion, based on the horse’s previous starts, that it races somewhat one paced, and would therefore be suited when allowed to set a fast tempo and, for that reason, she elected not to restrain the gelding to a slower tempo in the middle stages. Having had the opportunity to review the patrol footage in the presence of Stewards, Apprentice Kennedy agreed with Stewards that she had erred by not endeavouring to set a slower tempo in the early stages which would have enabled her mount to finish the race off better when placed under pressure in the home straight. Whilst Stewards were of the view that Apprentice Kennedy’s ride had lacked judgement, they were not of the view that it fell below the requisite standard to issue a charge, and therefore took the matter no further other than to refer this ride to the Racing Queensland Training Department for further tuition.

DIGGITY – Laid in rounding the home turn and brushed the running rail near the 350m.

HE’S NOT FOCUSED – Laid in rounding the home turn.

PRIVATE PROFIT – Stewards permitted G. Geran to ride the mare 1½ kilograms over the horse’s allotted weight when no other rider was available.

Race 2: TOOWOOMBA PLASTICS BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1210M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards permitted jockey K. Yoshida, the rider of the COUP, which was placed 2nd by the Judge in a dead-heat, to view the photo finish print. After viewing the print, jockey Yoshida was satisfied that a margin could not be detected between the dead-heating runners.

COUP – Raced in restricted room and was steadied over the concluding stages.

JOCHBERG – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

VIBRATO – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground and, as a result, settled further back than anticipated. Momentarily raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained near the 900m.

MADDIARA – Trainer L. Hatch was fined $100 under LR67 for the late declaration of P. Randall as rider. Laid out rounding the home turn.

REEF KNOT – Raced in restricted room and was steadied over the concluding stages.

OKANAGAN MISS – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 3: HYGAIN BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1650M

TABARD – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Stewards questioned Apprentice I. Rabjones in relation to the tactics adopted in that whilst racing in a forward position she maintained a 3 wide line which ultimately allowed LOUIE LA’JOY to improve to her mount’s inside passing the 700m. Apprentice Rabjones advised that the gelding overraced badly in the early and middle stages and proved difficult to restrain and, as a result, she was unable to shift the gelding to a position one off the fence and was forced to race 3 wide throughout. Having reviewed the patrol footage, Stewards accepted that TABARD proved difficult to ride whilst overracing at this stage of the race, however they advised Apprentice Rabjones that, in their opinion, she should have made a greater effort to maintain a position one off the fence which would have denied LOUIE LA’JOY the opportunity to improve to her mount’s inside. As Stewards were not of the view that this ride fell below the requisite standard to issue a charge, they took the matter no further other than to refer this ride to the Racing Queensland Training Department for further tuition.

HONEY BABY – After being caught wide in the early stages, the filly was restrained to a position closer to the rail and, as a result, settled further back than anticipated.

Race 4: LIVING GEMS PTY LTD 2YO AND 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1210M

The start of this race was delayed when BY BY MUSIC proved difficult to load.

ROACCI – Began awkwardly and was then bumped heavily at the start and, as a result, lost ground and settled further back than anticipated. Clipped heels and was checked leaving the 800m when DOCTOR COSTELLO was steadied whilst racing keenly and lost ground.

QUEENOFMAINSTREET – Slow to begin.

DOCTOR COSTELLO – Steadied whilst racing keenly leaving the 800m and, as a result, lost ground, and then continued to race keenly for some distance from this point. Steadied near the 100m and was forced wider to secure clear running.

PUCKO – Slow to begin.

MISS DOLLY – Slow to begin.

RUNARD REDNUT – Momentarily steadied to avoid heels near the 1000m. Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained near the 900m.

Race 5: NEIL MANSELL TRANSPORT MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M

MYKISS FROMA ROSE – Bucked shortly after the start and took no competitive part in the race. As the mare has a prior history of bucking, prior to next racing, it will be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on two consecutive occasions whilst carrying a race day saddle.

EURO ROCKSTAR – Disappointed for a run near the 500m and became unbalanced for a short distance.

BILL OF RIGHTS – Steadied and forced inwards when TIGERPOWER shifted in over the concluding stages. Jockey M. Palmer, the rider of TIGERPOWER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in over the concluding stages when insufficiently clear of BILL OF RIGHTS which was steadied and forced inwards resulting in the rider of BISHOJO having to take hold at that point and losing ground.  Jockey M. Palmer’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence at midnight on Saturday 25 July 2020 and conclude at midnight on Saturday 1 August 2020. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Palmer’s guilty plea and his excellent prior record in relation to this rule.

BISHOJO – Slow to begin. Raced keenly whilst being restrained in the early stages. Steadied to avoid heels near the 500m.

Race 6: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1300M

MY BELLY BUTTON – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages and, as a result, the gelding was allowed to stride forward by its rider to assume the lead approaching the 800m.

CONQUERMORE – Jockey N. Evans was reminded of his obligation to not use an action that raises his arm above shoulder height.

Race 7: WHOLESALE HORSEWEAR HOUSE MAIDEN H’CAP – 1650M

TYCOON MCKINNEY – Stewards permitted the late scratching of the gelding at 5.20pm due to the track downgrade.

SUZY NEEDS LOVIN’ – Slow to begin.

VANDERWINK – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

DAUNTING ADVENTURE – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

TOTAL TRUCE – Raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 1300m and lost ground.

Race 8: TAB CLASS 2 PLATE – 1880M

SCHWARZY – Began awkwardly.

ULTIMATE POWER – Raced ungenerously with its head in the air and proved difficult to restrain for a considerable distance in the early and middle stages.

GREAT SHINE – Slow to begin.
