GENERAL

Jockey Beau Appo was fined $500 under AR218(4)(c) for having in his possession and using a mobile phone in the jockeys room. Further to this, Stewards acted under the provisions of AR 22(1)(d) and subsequently took possession of jockey Appo’s phone for the purpose of having it forensically analysed.

Race 1: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRENDAN (BEAKER) RYAN C3 HCP – 1110M

REPUBLIC – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not competing in the past twelve months and was subsequently passed fit to start. Inclined to lay in in the early stages of the home straight.

TO LOVE SOMEBODY – On returning to scale apprentice Peel advised that her mount was inclined to hang out throughout the event.

PERSIAN KING – Raced three wide without cover throughout. When questioned regarding the below market expectation performance, Apprentice Savva stated her mount only travelled fairly throughout the event and when she attempted to gain a position behind the leaders in the early part of the race, her mount was forced wide and as a result, she was forced to race wide from that point onwards. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

FRENCH OCEAN – Bumped on jumping. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

BID IN A HURRY (NZ) – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.

CURRY CONNECTION – Bumped on jumping.

Race 2: JANNO'S BUCKS PARTY BM70 HCP – 1640M

THE IRONS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

VINASTA – Bumped on jumping.

MAEVILA RULER – Slow to begin.

SARASUN – Began awkwardly contacting VINASTA. Inclined to over race throughout.

IN YOUR ELEMENT – Approaching the 1500m had to be steadied from the heels of SARASUN.

Race 3: WOMEN OF LOT FEEDING C1 HCP – 1300M

The start of this race was delayed when Apprentice M Savva underwent an examination by the Queensland Ambulance Service in the mounting yard after being dislodged from KING BART. Apprentice Savva was cleared by QAS officers to fulfill her remaining engagements.

ANGELS SHARE – Tightened for room near the 1200m and was forced to restrain when PURE PURGATORY was taken in by KING BART (M Savva). Apprentice M Savva was reprimanded under AR131(a). Bumped near the 450m. When questioned regarding the performance, trainer K Kemp stated that ANGELS SHARE may not have handled the quick back up between runs as well as the rise in class of today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

BOOMI’S BUDDY – Jockey B Ainsworth advised that when she attained the lead her mount refused to settle and overraced from that point on.

DREAM POLICE – Raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained for a short distance approaching the 900m.

PURE PURGATORY – Tightened for room at the start. Taken in at the 1200m by another runner to the outside. Bumped with ANGELS SHARE near the 450m. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

HABIB – Began awkwardly.

Race 4: CARPET ONE BM60 HCP – 870M

HARRYANDTHETIGER – Hung in throughout placing its rider apprentice Kennedy at a severe disadvantage. Contacted the running rail at the 600m. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn. Approaching the 200m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of INCITER. Trainer M Callaghan was advised a warning would be placed on the record of the gelding in relation to hanging in.

EXCEED ROCK – Made contact with the running rail several times leaving the 600m.

REMEMBER MARY – Began awkwardly. Shifted in under pressure in the home straight.

MISS CASIER – Worked hard to the barriers in the preliminary due to its rider losing the use of her irons. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have displayed a poor post-race recovery.

WEDGED - Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 800m.

Race 5: BLACK & WHITE CABS MDN HCP – 1110M

YUPPIE – Placed in restricted room and lost ground shortly after the start and lost ground.

Leaving the 600m, momentarily placed in restricted room and forced to ease when ROULETTE (B APPO) shifted in marginally. Rider B Appo was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Raced three wide with cover throughout.

MUM’S MY ANGEL – Shifted in under pressure in the home straight.

PENNYWORTH – Inclined to lay in through the early stages. Raced keenly throughout.

SNAP THE LUCK – Raced three wide without cover in the early stages. Shifted in abruptly near the 600m to obtain a position closer to the rail.

COUNTY LOVE – Began awkwardly.

NOETHER – Began awkwardly contacting the inside barrier partition.

MINAJ A STAR – Began awkwardly contacting NOETHER. Jockey G Goomany reported that his saddle shifted near the 600m resulting in him becoming unbalanced.

Race 6: BARRIER REEF POOLS QTIS 3YO C2 HCP – 1210M

KESSEL RUN – Began awkwardly.

YANGSEA – Apprentice A Jones was reminded of her obligations to ride her mount out to the finish.

ILIKEIT ILOVEIT – Slow to begin and hampered shortly after. Approaching the 700m was tightened for room, checked, and lost significant ground when STAR TWINKLE was forced inwards by FORCEFUL MATILDA (Apprentice A. Thompson). At a subsequent inquiry Apprentice Thompson plead guilty to a charge under AR131(a) in that at a point approaching the 700m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of runners to his inside resulting in those runners being tightened for room, checked and lost ground. Apprentice Thompsons license to ride in races was suspended for a period of eleven days to commence on midnight 29th August 2021 and to expire on 9th September 2021. Apprentice Thompson was advised of his right to an internal review.

FORCEFUL MATILDA – As B Appo was unable to fulfill his engagement, apprentice A Thompson was permitted to replace him as the rider. Raced wide for the majority.

STAR TWINKLE – Placed in restricted room, checked and lost ground when taken in by FORCEFUL MATILDA at a point approaching the 700m

Race 7: TOOWOOMBA PLASTICS C1 HCP – 1870M

UNDER ORDERS – Raced in restricted room and was forced to restrain near the 1600m when ELEUTHERA was taken in marginally by PLATINUM DEAL.

ELEUTHERA – Slow to begin. Disappointed for a run approaching the 200m and again disappointed for a run leaving the 150m before being held up for clear running over the concluding stages.

KICKS BOTH FEET – Raced wide in the early stages before obtaining a position outside the leader leaving the 1300m. Weakened from the 600m and took no further part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer P Kalinowski was advised the nominations at provincial and metropolitan race meetings would be refused until the gelding displays an improvement in its form at Non-Tab meetings.
