Race 5: TAB RACE CALLERS CUP BENCHMARK 75 Handicap 1850 metres

After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, J Murphy, the rider of CHOCOLATIER, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against THE IRONS being placed 1st, alleging interference near the in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the available patrol footage, Stewards found that near the 200m CHOCOLATIER, after establishing a run to the outside of the THE IRONS (App.E Macpherson), had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of THE IRONS which shifted out under pressure, a short distance later near the 150m CHOCOLATIER was further hampered when THE IRONS again shifted out under pressure. Given the margin of a nose between the runners at the finish, Stewards were of the opinion that had the interference not occurred CHOCOLATIER would have finished in front of THE IRONS. Stewards therefore upheld the protest and amended the placings as follows: 1st CHOCOLATIER, 2nd THE IRONS, 3rd BANGERS AND MAYO, 4th HELLAVA BABE. Apprentice A Jones’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days to commence midnight 19 September 2021 and expire midnight 1 October 2021.  A post-race veterinary examination or revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils 1st time.
