GENERAL



As Jockey K Zechner and App Jockey O Kendal were not riding at the meeting, rider replacements were permitted as per the Stewards Summary Report.



Stewards permitted the following overweights at tonight’s meeting:

Race 1: WITCH DAY – N Fazackerley – 56kgs (+1kg)





Race 1: EASTCOAST CONCRETE CONTRACTORS BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1300 metres



TEA LEAVES – As had not started for an extended period, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly.



SILESIAN – Slow to begin. Over the concluding stages had to be eased when SISYPHEAN shifted in under pressure. Apprentice E MacPherson, rider of SISYPHEAN, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.



GRANDIOSO - Slow to begin.



SISYPHEAN – Approaching the 900m steadied from the heels of NEW YORK GAL.



LUCKY BEAN – Jumped out at the start and bumped LATIN LYRIC.

.



LATIN LYRIC – Bumped at the start. Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event.



EXTASSY – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. When weakening raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 300m.





Race 2: AUSTMIX AUSTRALIA Class 1 Handicap 1100 metres



After being loaded into the barriers MENARI MAGIC reared and struck its head on the overhead partition, became cast, underwent a veterinary examination, and was found to be lame in the near foreleg and declared a late scratching at 5:46pm. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on MENARI MAGIC refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:



1st - ATLANTIC WAY – 17c win, 7c place

2nd – IMAGINE THAT – 25c place

3rd – NICCI DE ROSA – 22c place



Trainer P Butterworth was advised MENARI MAGIC would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.



AGRACIANA – Severely tightened for room and checked near the 1000m. At a subsequent inquiry N Fazackerley, rider of NICCI DE ROSA, pleadsed guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR 131(a) in that near the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in resulting in both FRIDAY’S JET and THE POLENITSA being severely hampered and taken inwards, which in turn resulted in AGRACIANA being tightened onto the running rail and having to be checked. The licence of N Fazackerley to ride in races was suspended for a period of 14 days to commence midnight 3rd December up to and including midnight 17th December 2022. Eased from the heels of FRIDAY’S JET leaving the 300m.



FRIDAY'S JET - Slow to begin. Hampered and taken inwards near the 1000m. Near the 950m checked from heels and shifted out. Leaving the 300m steadied when placed in restricted room by IMAGINE THAT which laid in.



THE POLENITSA - Began awkwardly and lost ground. Hampered and taken inwards near the 1000m. Leaving the 900m raced with its head in the air for a short distance when steadied from the heels of ATLANTIC WAY. Raced wide in the middle stages.



IMAGINE THAT - Jumped out at the start and bumped HISGRACE. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.



SHOUTS OUTBACK – Near the 950m checked from heels and shifted out.



Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 3 retrospective to Race 2.





Race 3: BUTLERS CONCRETE CONTRACTORS QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1000 metres



The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 minutes when the tongue tie on EGALITE broke and needed to be replaced.



EGALITE – Laid out rounding the home turn. Rider J Stanley reported he desisted from pressuring the horse in the early stages of the home straight when EGALITE felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near hind leg. Trainer L Hatch was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race or trial start.



POWEROCC - Raced greenly and hung out in the early stages.



HELLO ANGEL – Near the 50m steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of KEENZAP which shifted in.



LIZA IN LIGHTS – Jumped in the air and lost significant ground, resulting in M Murphy being struck in the head. Trainer T Pascoe was advised LIZA IN LIGHTS would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start. Rider M Murphy was examined by QAS and cleared to fulfill his remaining engagements.



SKATER – Held up rounding the home turn. Disappointed for a run to the inside of STRAIGHT ALPHAS leaving the 200m.



STRAIGHT ALPHAS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.



DREAM OF GIARDINI – Began awkwardly and lost ground.



KEENZAP – G Geran, rider of KEENZAP, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer C Smith explained KEENZAP had been working well leading into tonight’s event and that from the favourable barrier the stable was confident of a forward performance.





Race 4: MARY BUTLER Maiden Plate 1000 metres



CHEERS MATE - Began awkwardly. Near the 800m was restrained to obtain a position with cover. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.



ZELSON - As had not started for an extended period, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, and was cleared to start. Rider reported the horse raced greenly throughout the event.



CELESTIAL LASS - Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the event.



SHEZANUISANCE - As K Yoshido was delayed arriving on course Stewards permitted Morgan Butler to ride the horse. Near the 750m was restrained from heels and shifted out. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.



SIZZLELOVER – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 800m over-raced for some distance.





Race 5: THE V.J. BUTLER MEMORIAL SUMMER PROVINCIAL SPRINT SERIES-HEAT-BENCHMAR 1100 metres



ELUSIVE EAGLE – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was readjusted. Began awkwardly. Steadied from the heels of FRISCO’S IMAGE near the 900m. Leaving the 400m inconvenienced and had to be steadied away from the heels of DOCTOR TEEKAY which shifted out. N Keal, rider of DOCTOR TEEKAY, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Laid out for the majority of the event.



DOCTOR TEEKAY – Rider N Keal reported the horse was inclined to lay out for the majority of the event and in the home straight desisted from pressuring DOCTOR TEEKAY as he was concerned with the horse’s action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.



ARGYLE LANE – Began awkwardly.



COYNES ROAD – Began awkwardly



FRISCO'S IMAGE – Laid in during the early stages of the event. Rider M Butler reported the horse was very disappointing and failed to respond to his riding when place under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.



LOVESON – Raced wide for the majority of the event.





Race 6: MM ELECTRICAL TOOWOOMBA BENCHMARK 62 Handicap1850 metres



HIGH I CUE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.



BY THE LAW – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the 500m until approaching the home turn.



ULTIMATE POWER - After being caught wide in the early stages rider M Savva allowed her mount to stride forward and settle outside the leader near the 1100m.



EVRYNOW'N'THEN - Slow to begin.



STRUT – N Keal, rider of STRUT, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.





Race 7: CONGRATULATIONS CLAYTON AND ANDREA Maiden Handicap 1625 metres



GLORY OF WAR - Slow to begin.



ELMITA – Near the 200m was steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of THREE MORE WISHES which hung in at that point. When asked to comment on the performance rider M Savva reported the horse had worked well during the week and could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance.



LEVEL ONE - Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running between the 250m until a point inside the 100m.



THREE MORE WISHES - Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Hung in near the 200m.



LOLA STAR – Jumped in at the start and bumped GIRRAMAY.



NIRVANA NINJA - Raced in restricted room to the inside of REG ‘N’ KATH near the 1000m had to be steadied to avoid heels. C Small, rider of REG ‘N’ KATH, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Held up for clear running between the 300m and the 100m.



DUCHESS BREE – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Rider T Townsend reported the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise on pulling up and may have choked down during the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
