GENERAL

To accommodate Sky Racing programming commitments, the start time for Race 7 was amended to 9:08pm from 9:07pm

Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred in the jockey’s room following the running of Race 1 involving Apprentice Jake Molloy and Jockey Adin Thompson. After hearing submissions from both riders, Stewards charged Adin Thompson and Jake Molloy under AR228(b) for misconduct, in that both riders became involved in an altercation following the running of Race 1 in the confines of the jockey’s room. Jake Molloy pleaded guilty as charged and was fined $1000 of which $500 is to be fully suspended for a period of 2 years. Adin Thompson pleaded guilty as charged and was fined $1500 of which $750 is to be fully suspended for a period of 2 years.

Race 1: EUREKA STUD Maiden Plate 1000 metres

SEENUSCOMING – Trainer Matt Kropp was fined $200 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider on SEENUSCOMING. Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

SUBSTITUTION – Bumped with METHIL at the start. Checked near the 800m. At a subsequent inquiry J Molloy, rider of WHERE’S TEEKAY NOW was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SUBSTITUTION which was taken in and had to be checked. METHIL, which was racing to the inside of SUBSTITUTION, was checked as a consequence. The licence of J Molloy to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days to commence 10th January up to and including 22nd January 2023.

TURF EDITION – Began awkwardly.

POINT BREAK – Laid out marginally passing the 900m. Laid out marginally and checked from heels near the 750m. Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.

WHERE'S TEKAY NOW – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

AYNAT – After beginning on terms, failed to muster speed and tailed the field throughout.

KIHI – Laid out under pressure passing the 300m and near the 200m shifted out and away from WHERE’S TEEKAY NOW

METHIL – After beginning awkwardly bumped with SUBSTITUTION soon after. Raced in restricted room to the inside of SUBSTITUTION in the early stages. A Thompson, rider of SUBSTITUTION, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Checked passing the 800m. Raced wide throughout.

RUIHI – Slow to begin. Lost near hind plate in running.


Race 2: MURDOCH LAWYERS Maiden Handicap 1300 metres

BRAITHWAITE was declared a late scratching at 5:58pm after contacting a running rail when proceeding to the barriers, dislodging rider A Thompson, and galloping riderless for some distance. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on BRAITHWAITE refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:

1st HILL BILLY FLYER – 4c win, 4c place
2nd GATEWAYS – 7c place
3rd HEART OF MARBLE – 7c place

Trainer J Smerdon was advised a warning will be placed on BRAITHWAITE’S pre-race manners.

AZURE PRIDE – After being bumped by BRAITHWAITE when proceeding to the start, underwent a veterinary examination prior to being loaded into the barriers and was cleared to start. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and as a consequence passing the 700m improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Bumped with GATEWAYS approaching the 400m.

THINK I'M READY – As S Lacy was to be overweight, Stewards permitted K Yoshida to ride the horse. S Lacy was fined $100 under AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. In considering penalty Stewards acknowledged her excellent previous record under this rule.

VIKING VICKY – Crowded at the start and bumped with LICENCE TO ROCK. Raced wide throughout.

HEART OF MARBLE – Bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. Raced keenly near the 700m. Laid in entering the home straight. Bumped heavily with GATEWAYS passing the winning post.

GATEWAYS – Raced keenly near the 700m. Bumped with AZURE PRIDE approaching the 400m. Laid out rounding the home turn. Approaching the 300m obliged to shift out around heels to obtain clear running. Bumped heavily by HEART OF MARBLE passing the winning post and became unbalanced. T Marshall, rider of HEART OF MARBLE, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

LICENCE TO ROCK – Crowded at the start and bumped with VIKING VICKY.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to Good 3 retrospective to Race 2


Race 3: SHEPPARD EARTHMOVING QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden
Plate 1200 metres

GOLDEELUCK – Jumped out at the start and bumped PHEEBLE’S SPIRIT.

ZIPPING TOM – Crowded at the start and lost ground. Taken wider rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ASHMOLEAN – Rider W D’Avila dropped his whip approaching the winning post.

EVERLASTING STARS – Trainer Liam Birchley was fined $200 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider on EVERLASTING STARS. Change of tactics, to be ridden with cover if circumstances permit. After being caught wide from the wide barrier and unable to be restrained to obtain cover, raced wide for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be showing signs of cardiac arrythmia. Trainer L Birchley was advised EVERLASTING STARS would require a veterinary clearance, including a satisfactory ECG result, and must also trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

HELLO ANGEL – Jumped out at the start. Entering the home straight was obliged to shift in to secure clear running.

IRISH SALLY – Crowded at the start and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

MOTIVATED MISS – Jumped in at the start. Raced keenly in the early stages and passing the 1000m over-raced for some distance thereafter.

PHEEBLE'S SPIRIT – Bumped at the start by GOLDEELUCK. Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and on entering the home straight shifted in and away abruptly from HELLO ANGEL.

ROMANTIC THOUGHTS – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

BOOM RAPTURE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.



Race 4: TOOWOOMBA TILES BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1625 metres

ELIZANO – Tightened shortly after the start and lost ground. Near the 1400m steadied to avoid the heels of CIRCLING which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey B Thompson, rider of CIRCLING, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Raced keenly for some distance leaving the 1400m.

SHEPPEY – Hampered on jumping.

EELLOH – Raced keenly near the 1400m for a short distance. Momentarily steadied from heels near the 900m. Held up on heels near the 200m before shifting out to secure clear running. Shifted in at the entrance to the home straight.

THE CARPENTER – Shifted in at the entrance to the home straight.

DELANEY'S GIRL – Near the 900m steadied from heels of HARBELLE. Steadied momentarily entering the home straight.

NAVAL STRIKE – Slow to begin.

LATIN LYRIC – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

HARBELLE – Made the 1500m crossing awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages of the event and near the 900m had to be restrained from the heels of THE CARPENTER and as a result contacted the running rail a short distance later. Near the 400m held up on the heels of the tiring HAIL TO THE CHIEF and shifted wider on the track. Held up in the early stages of the home straight. App S Champkin reported HARBELLE hung out for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

CUTABRI – Caught wide in the early stages of the event before progressing forward to race outside the leader from the 1100m. Shifted in entering the home straight.

HAIL TO THE CHIEF – Weakened from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.


Race 5: JONKER AT AQUIS FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 65
Handicap 1100 metres

I AM READY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the nearside knee. Co-trainer Corey Geran was advised I AM READY would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race or trial start.

BARISTASISTA – Laid in rounding the home turn.

ANGELS SHARE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

SEE FOR YOURSELF – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

ZANAZOU – After beginning only fairly obliged to settle further back in the field than anticipated. Held up passing the 200m before shifting in to secure clear running.


Race 6: MORT & CO KING OF THE MOUNTAIN 1200 metres

KISUKANO was declared a late scratching at 8:48pm on veterinary advice after becoming cast in the barriers and sustaining an injury to the near foreleg. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on KISUKANO refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:

1st YELLOW BRICK – 4c win, 4c place
2nd ALPINE EDGE – 7c place
3rd STEADY READY – 7c place

Representative for Trainer M Nolan was advised KISUKANO would require a further barrier certificate and would also require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race or trial start.

As a result, the start of this event was delayed approximately 6 minutes.

NICCANOVA – Bumped with LAST CHANCE passing the 700m. Faltered in its action soon after passing the winning post. An immediate Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a shoulder injury. NICCANOVA was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds. Post-mortem samples were taken for analysis.

SIMPLY FLY – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co-trainer N Hahn gave an undertaking to report back to Stewards any condition which may come to light in the coming days to explain the disappointing performance. Trainer R Lipp advised on the 1/01/2023 that the gelding had pulled up well following the event and would now be sent for a short let up prior to racing again.

LAST CHANCE – Bumped with NICCANOVA passing the 700m. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn until a point leaving the 300m.

MASS DESTRUCTION – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

JE SUIS BELLE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

CHATTY LADY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

NORTHERN EXPRESS – Raced keenly in the early stages.


Race 7: BROWN & HURLEY KENWORTH CONSOLATION OPEN
HANDICAP 1200 metres

Due to a delay from Race 6, and as GINGER ROCK required farrier attention and GOGOL underwent a veterinary examination at the barriers, this event started approximately 6 minutes behind the advertised starting time.

GOGOL – At the request of its rider, underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 9:10pm after being found to be lame in the off foreleg. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on GOGOL be refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:

1st ROMAN AUREUS – 14c win, 10c place
2nd FIVE OXFORD – 20c place
3rd SPINNING SPIRIT – 20c place

Trainer L Kelly was advised GOGOL would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race or trial start.

FIVE OXFORD – Blundered on jumping.

SPINNING SPIRIT – Held up in the early stages of the home straight.

GETYOURGREYON – Began awkwardly. Laid in approaching the 500m.

SEMAPHORE GIRL – Slow to begin. Near the 800m improved onto heels and had to be restrained before commencing to over-race for a short distance.
