GENERAL

Stewards permitted the following overweights at tonights meeting:

Race 5- Jockey L Tilley +1kg
Race 8- Jockey L Tilley + 1/2kg

Race 1: HIGHFIELDS BUILDER QTIS 3yo MAIDEN HANDICAP 1300m

SNAKESKIN- Laid out rounding the home turn.

TRAIN ROCK- Over-raced on heels near the 900m. Laid out under pressure down the running.

PORTOLA- Over-raced in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority.

BLAZING LOVE- Connections advised that the intention would be for the filly to be ridden in a more rearward position than in its most recent start, should circumstances permitted. Was ridden accordingly. Whilst being restrained in the early stages to assume cover was inclined to race keenly. Bumped passing the 900m and 700m. Shifted in under pressure passing the 100m and inconvenienced BRINGME which was obliged to steady. App C Graham was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident and advised to exercise greater care in ensuring her mounts do not unduly shift ground down the running.

JATOBI- Laid out passing the 400m.

A BIT BAZARRE- Slow to begin. Bumped passing the 900m and 700m.

BRING ME- Obliged to steady when tightened for room and inconvenienced passing the 100m.

Race 2: HARVEY NORMAN COMMERCIAL TOOWOOMBA CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1300m

SEMPREINTE- Crowded on jumping. Raced wide for the majority. Severely hampered leaving the 300m and obliged to restrain. Was not pressured from this point on. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which reveal a slow post-race recovery and a minor laceration to the left-hind cannon consistent with striking itself in running.

AFSOON- Laid in passing the 900m. Jockey L Tarrant pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR131(a) in that leaving the 300m he did direct his mount, under riding, resulting in SEMPREINTE being tightened for room, before continuing to shift out across that runners line of running when insufficiently clear causing SAMPREINTE to be restrained and lose its rightful running. Jockey Tarrants license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 13 days to commence 15th May up to and including 27th May 2023. In determining penalty Stewards considered Jockey Tarrants guilty plea and his excellent record in relation to the rule to be mitigating factors, whilst also being mindful of the degree of carelessness and severity of the interference which were placed in the high-range and high-end of mid-range respectively. Jockey Tarrant was advised of his right of appeal.

ANYWAY YOU WANT IT- Momentarily crowded passing the 800m. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and was momentarily awkwardly placed on heels soon after entering the home straight.

START STRUTTING- Shifted in marginally passing the 800m. Shifted out and away from heels leaving the 400m. Bumped leaving the 300m.

TABULAM- Raced keenly passing the 900m. Momentarily crowded passing the 800m. Shifted out soon after entering the home straight momentarily hampering ANYWAY YOU WANT IT. Jockey T Harrison was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

TUHINGA- Laid in under pressure down the running. When queried regarding the seemingly improved performance Trainer J Thomas advised that, in his opinion, he felt the poor performance in the geldings most recent start was the anomaly and considering the step down in class for todays event he had expected a forward showing. Adding further that, in his opinion, that the gelding was ridden in a more suitable manner on this occasion which was to his benefit.

ARTIE’S DESTINY- Crowded on jumping.

BRING ME FLOWERS- Laid out passing the 900m.

SUPER LEAGUE- Began awkwardly.

Race 3: BPI TOOWOOMBA BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1050m

GAMBOA- Jockey L Tilley was found guilty of a charge pursuant to AR131(a) in that, near the 900m, he did permit his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ROWDASH causing that runner to be restrained and lose its rightful running. Jockey Tilleys license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 9 days to commence 23rd May up to and including 31st May 2023. In determining penalty Stewards considered Jockey Tilleys good record in relation to the rule as well as the racing manners of ROWDASH when being restrained which it was noted may have marginally exacerbated the severity of interference, Stewards also placed the degree of carelessness and severity of interference in the low range. Jockey Tilley was advised of his right to an appeal.

TURBOART- Began awkwardly.

MUIRON- Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority. Jockey C Rogers dropped her whip soon after entering the home straight.

INCOMPARABLE- After beginning only fairly from the wide barrier was restrained in the early stages in an effort to obtain cover and a position closer to the inside running rail. Laid in under pressure down the running.

READY BABE- Bumped soon after the start. Bumped on several occasions between the 800 and 700m.

HYLAND BAY- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure down the running.

AL PAL’S GAL- Bumped on jumping.

ROWDASH- Bumped soon after the start. Inconvenienced and obliged to restrain near the 900m.

Race 4: PRYDE’S EASI FEED RANTINGS BAND 0-58 HANDICAP 1625m

FORCE ME- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination which revealed the mare to be lame in the near-fore. The mare was subsequently declared a late scratching at 5pm. As the scratching had occurred prior to the commencement of on-course betting on the event no deductions were applicable.

ROUND OF APPLAUSE- Bumped passing the 400m and shifted wider.

KINGS CONTRACT- Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages before making a forward move near the 1500m and obtaining the lead and a position near the inside running rail near the 1200m. Trainer B Hull advised that the gelding would now likely leave his stable.

OUR SPIDER- Slow to begin. Bumped leaving the 300m.

BUDDY’S TALE- Raced wide until the 900m. Shifted out leaving the 300m and bumped another runner. App A Donald was advised to exerciser greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

DREAM CANDY- Bumped passing the 400m. Jockey M Savva license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence 14th May up to and including 20th May 2023 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) the particulars of the charge being that she did use her whip on 10 occasions, 5 more than permitted, prior to the 100m. Jockey Savva was advised of her right to an appeal.

SIDEWALK- Raced keenly when being restrained on entering the back straight and continued to do so for some distance. Performed disappointingly. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have suffered from bilateral epistaxis. Trainer J Walk advised Stewards the gelding would now likely be retired. Nonetheless, Mr Walk was advised that, as this was the first such occurrence, the gelding would now, subject to AR79, be banned from racing for a period of 3 months and be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of a Stewards prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

Race 5: QUEENSLAND ELECTRICAL SOLUTION MAIDEN PLATE 1625m

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to review the photo finish. After viewing the official photo correct weight was declared on the Judges Semaphored numbers.

BURN THE BOATS- Laid in approaching the 400m.

DARK TANGENT- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride consequently settling further back in the field than may have been expected.

HALLSIDE WILDTHING- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers and was declared a late scratching at 6:49pm after being found to be lame in the near-hind. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 6:49pm:

0cents in the dollar for the win
0cents in the dollar for the place on the winner
1cents in the dollar for 2nd place
