SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Roma Saturday 23rd March 2024
Race 2: STATHAM CHEESMAN BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP (1000m)
RISING SPIRIT – Trainer G. Richardson subsequently advised the mare had pulled up in satisfactory condition and had returned to his stable from Roma Veterinary Clinic, however advised connections would now most likely retire the mare. Nevertheless, he was still advised that RISING SPIRIT would require a veterinary clearance prior to trialling to Stewards’ satisfaction if to return to racing.

GENERAL

As Jockey S. Cormack was unavailable due to personal reasons, rider replacements were made as per Stewards’ race-day summary.


Race 1: HAPPY EASTER FROM TTC MAIDEN HANDICAP (1625m)

CALM BUCKLE (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages after being restrained momentarily to find a position with cover.

HILLSIDE ROAD – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1400m obliged to be steadied when awkwardly placed on heels when the pace slackened. Raced wide from the 500m when attempting to improve.

MAN TALK – Began awkwardly.

SUPER FAIR – Laid in momentarily becoming awkwardly placed on heels having to be steadied near the 1500m. Raced wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward near the 1300m and settled in a leading position along the running rail near the 1200m.

LIZA IN LIGHTS – Raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 1400m carried wider when HILLSIDE ROAD was obliged to shift wider when becoming awkwardly placed on heels when the pace slackened. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Apprentice E. Lang advised that due to being caught wide, she had settled further back than intended to obtain a position nearer to the running rail, however still felt that then mare did not appreciate the undulating surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

LICENCE TO THRILL – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having raced at Sunshine Coast on Sunday, 24 of March and was passed fit to start. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

PRIDE AN' JOY – Raced keenly in the early stages.

A DEVIL'S CHANCE – Began awkwardly, before becoming momentarily awkwardly placed on heels. Raced keenly on heels near the 1300m.

Following the running of this event, the track was upgraded to a soft 7.


Race 2: CREATE WITH COTTEE CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1000m)

BECAUSE THE NIGHT – Began awkwardly and bumped on jumping. Momentarily steadied when improved onto heels passing the 800m. Laid out under pressure entering the home straight.

ORACOLO – Slow to begin. Approaching the 200m obliged to moment shift off the heels of BEAUSE THE NIGHT which was laying out.

BUCKALTIUS – Bumped on jumping. Passing the 900m laid in and bumped. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

SWISS BABE – Laid in rounding the home turn and under pressure in the home straight.


Race 3: FOCUS HR MAIDEN HANDICAP (1300m)

YIPPEE BEAN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ALL WIN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having raced at Toowoomba on Saturday, 23 of March and was passed fit to start. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Cast its near-fore plate in running.

FLYWHEEL – Raced keenly in the early stages.

MAKIN' STATEMENTS – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide until approaching the 700m when making a forward move and obtaining a leading position near the inside running rail. Leaving the 700m, when obtaining the lead, shifted in when insufficiently clear of READY TO BOOM which was obliged to steady and shift wider to avoid heels. Jockey J. Taylor was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.

WESTOAK – When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, Jockey D. Thornton advised the gelding made an upper respiratory noise throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed general minor muscle soreness.

HERE TO GIVE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

JENNI MOREESE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after being fractious in the tie-up stalls and was passed fit to start. Raced keenly approaching the 1000m when being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover.

STORM THE BEACH – Began awkwardly before becoming awkwardly placed on heels and having to be steadied. Became under pressure from the 800m before finishing significantly tailed off. Trainer K. Stabe was advised the gelding’s nominations will now be refused at TAB Meetings until such improvements is shown in its form at non-TAB venues.

STPETERSCATHEDRAL – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having raced at Sunshine Coast on Sunday, 24 of March and was passed fit to start. Crowed on jumping before becoming momentarily awkward on heels before having to be steadied. Jockey M. Hellyer reported the gelding laid-out throughout the event.

QUEEN OF DARK – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

READY TO BOOM – Leaving the 700m obliged to steady from the heels of MAKIN’ STATEMENTS which shifted in and subsequently was obliged to shift wider. Raced wide and without cover thereafter.


Race 4: GERRY BROWN'S SHELVING & STORAGE CLASS 1 HANDICAP (870m)

EXTREMAARTY – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Laid-out rounding the home turn and when under pressure in the home straight.

I AM A MARVEL – Bumped on jumping.

TRICKETEER – Bumped approaching the 700m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

INATICK – Approaching the 450m carried outwards by ARABIAN FOX and bumped with DEAR PRUDENCE. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

DEAR PRUDENCE (NZ) – Slow to begin and subsequently settled further back than may have been expected. Bumped leaving the 700m. Raced keenly in the early stages. Approaching the 450m raced in restricted room between INATICK and SUPER EXCEPTIONAL and bumped. Jockey A. Jones reported the filly made an upper-respiratory noise throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

TISANI EMPEROR – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having not started for an extended period and was passed fit to start. Cast its near-hind plate in running.

ARABIAN FOX – Bumped approaching the 700m. Approaching the 450m laid out crowding runners to its outside. Laid in and away from another runner soon after straightening, becoming momentarily awkwardly placed on heels.

SUPER EXCEPTIONAL – Began very awkwardly shifted out and bumped heavily before shifting in and bumping a further runner and becoming momentarily unbalanced. Bumped leaving the 700m. Raced keenly near the 600m. Bumped approaching the 450m when DEAR PRUDENCE was tightened between runners.

RED NEBULA – Bumped and slow into stride.

CALICO COUNTY – Bumped soon after the start and became unbalanced.


Race 5: HIGHFIELDS BUILDER QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (1200m)

JACKS AND SODA – Near the 900m over-raced on heels for a short distance when being crossed over-raced on heels for a short distance after being crossed near the 900m. Jockey A. Donald reported the gelding may have choked-down during the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

VITTHAL – Laid out over the concluding stages carrying ALMOST EVEN wider and bumped.

DOONA – Over-raced in the middle stages and obliged to steady off heels on a number of occasions. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight and bumped with SKIEDA.

SKIEDA – Bumped on jumping. Bumped entering the home straight when DOONA laid out.

SOMBOR SHUFFLE – Raced keenly in the middle stages when being restrained to obtain a position with cover. Momentarily held up for a clear running, approaching the 300m and obliged to be shifted wider.

SHOUTS ALL DAY – After being marginally slow to begin, was bumped and became awkwardly placed on heels and steadied. Raced wide for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SHE'S GOT LYRICS – Bumped on jumping before being momentarily crowded. Momentarily steadied off heels approaching 650m.

ALMOST EVEN – Began awkwardly shifted out and bumped. Carried wider and bumped over the concluding stages.

TIPPED OFF – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the middle stages when being restrained to obtain a position with cover.

Following the running of this event, the track was upgraded to a soft 6.


Race 6: SEDL AGENCIES BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP (1100m)

FUN SPONGE – Laid in rounding the home turn and under pressure in the home straight.

INCOMPARABLE – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Raced keenly leaving the 800m, before became momentarily crowded between runners. Obliged to restrain off heels soon after straightening when tightened for room. Shifted out under pressure in the concluding stages.

SINGLE DIZIRE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Co-trainer M. Sears advised that consideration will now be given to the mare’s immediate racing future, indicating that SINGLE DIZIRE would most likely be retired.

SPILL THE TEARS – Raced wide and without cover in the early and middle stages. Commenced to race keenly passing 900m when being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover. Continued to race keenly for some distanced thereafter and laid out passing the 700m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

VONZITHER – Held-up approaching the 300m. Soon after straightening was disappointed for a run having to be checked off heels and shifted wider and bumped with another runner, before being shifted in and having to again to restrain from heels.

GYPSY POWER – Raced keenly in the middle stages after being crossed.


Race 7: SHERRIN RENTALS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1300m)

BEAN ROCKING – Raced wide without cover for majority of the event.

SCENIC RIM – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

DEMON DELIVERA – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages.

ANYWAY YOU WANT IT – Slow into stride. Raced keenly near the 1000m and bumped. Momentarily held up approaching 300m before shifting wider and bumping. Raced in restricted room rounding the home turn before obtaining a narrow run to the outside of WHERE’S TEKAY NOW.

MARTINI DANCER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

UNLEASH – Slow into stride. Raced keenly in the early stages and in doing so bumped. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

JUBILANT – Raced keenly near the 1100m when being restrained to obtain a position with cover.

MARCADA – Bumped soon after straightening.

ALERT AND READY – Slow into stride.
