GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights at tonights meeting:
Race 5- B Wheeler +1kg
Race 6- C Bayliss +1/2kg
Apprentice S Willis pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR113, in that she did use her mobile phone whilst mounted on a horse at trackwork at Toowoomba Turf Club on or about the 10th July 2025. Apprentice Willis was subsequently fined the sum of $300.
As Jockey A Thompson (foot injury) and App S Champkin (illness) were unable to fulfil their engagements at the meeting, rider replacements were permitted as per Stewards’ Race-day Summary. Jockey Thompson and App Champkin were advised they would require medical clearances prior to riding again.
Race 1: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1300m
Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow connections of 2nd placegetter LA MANO to view the race footage to ascertain whether grounds for an objection again 1st placegetter NAUGHTY WORDS were present. After viewing the official patrol footage Trainer L Hatch elected not to proceed with any objection and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.
NAUGHTY WORDS – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the back straight. Laid out near the 900m. Laid in under pressure for the duration of the home straight proving somewhat difficult to ride out and taking LA MANO in. Trainer M Currie was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners.
LA MANO – Bumped on jumping. Laid out rounding the home turn. Laid in away from another runner for the duration of the home straight.
THIEM – Slow into stride before becoming placed on heels shortly after.
LONDON POINT (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Obliged to steady momentarily and shift out, whilst laying in, to obtain clear running on entering the home straight.
HARD TO DISMISS – Began awkwardly and shifted out on jumping.
ROWDASH – Slow into stride.
LITTLE SPARK – App K Lenton advised that her mount had travelled well early however, in her opinion, better suited over shorter distances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer M Currie advised on 13 July that the mare had pulled up well, but may have come to the end of its preparation and would likely be sent for a short let up.
SUGAR ISLAND – Bumped on jumping.
CRYPT DE PIN – Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain a position with cover nearer the inside running rail.
Race 2: SUBZERO AIRCONDITIONING CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200m
LOVE 'N' ROCKETS – Raced wide from the 700m. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight having to be corrected. then in and away soon after before being corrected by its rider, before again laying in and away from another runner.
MYSTERY POWER – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the back straight.
CHANGE THE DEEL – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure down the running. App O Webb was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. When questioned on the seemingly improved performance of the gelding, Trainer P Minter advised with the step down in grade he had expected an improved performance, noting the narrow margins in the geldings previous runs when racing up in class.
MISS MOZAMBIQUE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn, before being disappointed for a run soon after entering the home straight and having to be momentarily steadied and shifted out.
SOMETHING FORJO – Laid in during the early stages of the home straight despite the efforts of its rider, before being crowded.
WHITTAKER – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Lost the near fore plate in running.
PACIFIC PIRATE – Raced keenly in the back straight. Bumped approaching the 200m and again passing the 200m when crowded.
SCRUFFY - Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Improved onto heels on entering the home straight before being shifted out and bumping approaching the 200m and again passing the 200m when attempting to secure clear running. Improved onto heels and had to be steadied near the 100m and consequently went to the line without being fully tested.
Race 3: PRYDE'S EASIFEED BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1200m
Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view footage of an incident near the 900m involving 1st placegetter DRANG A TANG and 2nd placegetter DATA LEAK. After viewing the footage Stewards declared correct weight on the Judges semaphored numbers.
GROOVIN' THE MOO – Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
COUNT THE COIN – Began awkwardly.
DRANG A TANG – Shifted in near the 1000m taking DATA LINK in before being corrected. Shifted in leaving the 900m tightening the running of DATA LEAK obliging that runner to be steadied, bumped and lose its rightful running. App K Lenton was severely reprimanded under AR131(a) for this incident and strongly reminded of her obligations when shifting ground. When considering the matter Stewards noted the racing manners of DRANG A TANG, which had been inclined to lay in.
SON OF BEEBEE – Bumped and crowded leaving the 900m.
REGGIE'S FOLLY – Began awkwardly and bumped.
DATA LEAK – Began awkwardly and bumped, becoming momentarily unbalanced. Taken in and momentarily steadied near the 1000m. Tightened and obliged to steady leaving the 900m. Momentarily held up approaching the 100m having to be momentarily steadied and shifted to the inside of heels.
Race 4: EMPIRE OF JAPAN BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1625m
NERANO – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore. Trainer P Wallace was advised a vet clearance would be required prior to the gelding again being permitted to start in a race.
LUCKY EXCHANGE – Raced wide in the early stages.
SPOOKY SPIRIT- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride.
LIKEABEEL- Under pressure from the 700m.
START STRUTTING- Raced keenly for a short distance near the 1200m after being steadied to obtain a position with cover. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. When queried regarding the improved performance Stable Representative A Reedy advised that an improved performance had been expected with the step up to a more suitable distance after a short let up, nonetheless the stable was pleasantly surprised by the winning performance.
CHASING JACKLEY- Held up for clear running approaching the 400m. Improved onto heels near the 250m and was held up for clear running until being shifted in leaving the 200m.
DRUNKEN SAILOR (NZ)- Raced keenly near the 1300m.
MAPLE DOOR- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. Disappointed for a run soon after entering the home straight, having to be momentarily steadied and shifted in.
Race 5: PROVINCIAL DISTRIBUTORS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1890m
KNEZE – Shifted in when not fully clear of SONNY FELLA approaching the 1000m obliging that runner to be restrained. App M Goring was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident. In considering the matter Stewards noted the comments of Jockey W Costin (SONNY FELLA) in regard to her mounts racing manners when being restrained having exacerbated the interference. Laid in and bumped near the 350m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, bumping near the 200m.
MALECON – Held up on the heels of a weakening runner near the 500m. Shifted in abruptly near the 200m having to be corrected.
TRAUTMAN – Slow to begin. Raced keenly near the 1300m. Bumped on entering the home straight.
JUSTICE SERVED – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid out rounding the home turn. When queried regarding the improved performance Trainer J Dart advised a more favorable run in transit was a telling factor in the improved performance adding further that the addition of blinkers again may also have contributed positively to the performance, nonetheless the stable were pleasantly surprised by the winning performance. Mr Dart advised further on 13 July that the gelding had pulled up with a mildly black eye consistent with receiving kickback in running.
ONOMATOPOEIA – Began awkwardly and bumped. Shifted in abruptly near the 1700m and momentarily hampered SONNY FELLA. Jockey W O’Connell was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident. Shifted in near the 1650m, crowding the running of VORTEXIA, before being bumped on the near-side hindquarters and shifting in further and commencing to race keenly when being corrected, further tightening VORTEXIA obliging that runner to be restrained and lose its rightful running. Jockey W O’Connell was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident. In considering the matter Stewards noted that the bump to ONOMATOPEIA’s hindquarters from FORCE ME had exacerbated the geldings inward shift and ultimately the tightening to VORTEXIA and was a mitigating circumstance in terms of Jockey O’Connells culpability.
SONNY FELLA – Began awkwardly. Momentarily hampered near the 1700m. Inconvenienced approaching the 1000m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
JENNI INDA JUNGLE – Raced keenly near the 1600m. Shifted in on entering the home straight and became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels.
VORTEXIA – Commenced to weaken noticeably from the 500m and was retired from the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first occasion and to be displaying clinical symptoms of cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer C Zintilis was advised of the provisions of AR79(4) and advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG prior to a 1000m gallop and occultation by a Veterinarian prior to racing again.
LIZZIE'S PRIDE (NZ) – Held up on the heels of a weakening runner near the 450m.
ANOTHER DAZZLER – Began awkwardly and bumped, shifted in and bumped again. Raced keenly near the 1400m. Bumped on entering the home straight.
BIE'RES – Raced keenly near the 1500m and again near the 1300m. Raced wide for the majority.
FORCE ME (NZ) – Shifted in and bumped near the 1650m. Bumped near the 350m. Bumped near the 200m.
NITROGLYCERINE – Bumped on jumping.
Race 6: TOP OF THE RANGE BUILDERS MAIDEN HANDICAP 870m
IT'S A LONG ROAD – Bumped on jumping and was slow into stride.
KINGSLAND – Difficult to load. Trainer T Pascoe was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding. Hung-out rounding the home turn and raced greenly in the home straight, having to be shifted to the outside of heels leaving the 100m when laying in.
REVANTAS – Bumped on jumping.
ABBY GIRL – Laid in near the 700m, momentarily hampering ATHOL MAC, before being corrected by its rider. Weakened noticeably over the final 150m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer M Nolan advised on 14 July that the filly had pulled up well following the event and consideration would now be given to the addition of a tongue tie to ABBY GIRL’s gear.
RARE MOON – Slow to begin. Bumped approaching the 700m. Raced wide for the majority.
LETTIE'S LOT - Raced wide for the majority.
ATHOL MAC – Bumped approaching the 700m. Momentarily hampered near the 700m.
Race 7: WAGNER CIVIL MAIDEN HANDICAP 1625m
SOMETHIN IN ORANGE – Raced wide until the 800m.
ARGENT EMPYREAN – Bumped on jumping. Took the 1500m course proper crossing awkwardly.
HIDEYO – Bumped on jumping. Shifted out marginally near the 1500m.
LIFE OF TREE – Raced keenly in the back straight. Held up on the heels of a tiring runner from the 600m until shifting wider near the 500m. Trainer M Callaghan advised that the gelding is best suited when able to obtain a position with cover as in todays event adding further that, in his opinion, he would expected continued improvement over further distances.
ROCK A BYE IVY – Shifted in marginally near the 1500m. Raced wide for the majority.
SOMAX – Bumped and crowded on jumping. Became awkwardly placed on heels having to be steadied near the 1500m. Under pressure from the 600m. Hung out rounding the home turn. Jockey J Murphy advised that he elected not to pressure his mount soon after entering the home straight after it became awkward in its action whilst hanging rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer J Grob advised on 13 July that the gelding had pulled up well following the event and intentions would be to continue with its preparation. Stewards advised Mr Grob that a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners for hanging.
