Race 1: EMPIRE OF JAPAN QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200m
RUTHVEN RUSH- Raced keenly near the 800m. Raced wide until the 800m. Laid out rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure down the running.
ASPEN COWBOY- Bumped near the 1100m.
KELPUM'S KEEPER- Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped.
TSAR JOKER- Bumped on jumping. Struggled to maintain the speed necessary to maintain contact with the field and assumed a trailing position throughout.
WANTED HILLBILLY- Crowded and bumped on jumping. Raced ungenerously near the 1000m. Laid in under pressure proving somewhat difficult to ride out, having to be corrected over the concluding stages.
VEGA NOVA- Laid in and bumped near the 1100m. Trainer M Nolan advised on 21 July that the gelding had been examined by the stable veterinarian and was found to be lame in the off-fore fetlock. Mr Nolan was advised a veterinary certificate fo fitness would be required prior to the gelding again being permitted to start in a race.
MISS LEANA- Over-raced on heels approaching the 600m and again approaching the 400m.
MISTEMBA- Bumped soon after the start.
KACHINA GIRL- Raced wide until the 700m.
Race 2: 1EQUINE - FOR THE EQUINE ATHLETE BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1300m
Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the photo for 4th place. After viewing the official photo Stewards declared correct weight on the Judges semaphored numbers.
THE DEPUTY (NZ)- Bumped soon after the start. App R Thorburn pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR131(b) the particulars being that from a point leaving the 100m he did cease riding his mount out before resuming pressuring his mount over the final three (3) stride of the event. App Thorburn was subsequently fined the sum of $500. In considering the matter Stewards noted that whilst THE DEPUTY had maintained 1st placing App Thorburns actions had materially prejudiced the geldings chances of securing the best possible placing and fell far below the expected standard. Stewards also noted App Thorburns record in relation to the rule as well as his contrition.
COMMAND APPROVED- Compounded over the final 100m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer J Thomas advised on 21 July that the gelding had pulled up well following the run and was largely at a loss to explain the poor performance outside of the gelding having to work early to obtain its customary leading position which may have been telling in the finish.
AMENOPHIS- Laid out rounding the home turn. Raced wide for the majority.
BEARHUG- Jockey L Tilley advised that his mount felt awkward in its action over the final 100m and as such he did not place the gelding under full pressure over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor abnormal chest sounds. Trainer K Kemp as advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of an occultation performed by a veterinarian subsequent to a gallop prior to racing again.
PUREZZA- Laid in during the early stages of the home straight.
MISTER SELFIE- Raced wide for the majority.
SUISSE SCANDAL (NZ)- Raced keenly near the 1100m when being restrained to obtain a position with cover nearer the inside running rail. Improved onto heels near the 600m.
PEACH GALANTES- Bumped soon after the start. Raced keenly near the 600m.
Race 3: SOUTHERN CROSS SHEDS RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 HANDICAP 1000m
SHAKE'N'BAKE- Slow to begin.
KING OF THE JUNGLE- Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer B Healey advised on 21 July that the gelding had pulled up well following the event and that the stable veterinarian had examined the gelding subsequent to its racing with no abnormalities being detected. Mr Healey added further that blood samples had been taken for analysis and should anything of note be detected in those he would advise Stewards.
BAD FOREST- App R Thorburn advised that his mount felt awkward in its action when returning to scale. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to the off-side hock consistent with the gelding hitting itself in running.
ELECTRIC ARROW- Slow to begin.
MISS DE BLAAS- App O Webb pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding the particulars being that leaving the 600m she did exercise insufficient effort in preventing her mount from shifting in consequently tightening the running of HEAVENLY AZ before obliging that runner to be checked and shifted out to avoid heels and lose its rightful running. App Webbs license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period 7 days to commence 28th July up to and including 3 August 2025.
HEAVENLY AZ- Tightened and obliged to check leaving the 600m.
Race 4: ARMSTRONG GWM CLASS 1 HANDICAP 870m
REVALENE- Bumped on jumping. Raced wide for the majority.
THE LOUVRE- Laid in under pressure down the running.
KING INVINCIBLE (NZ)- Laid out rounding the home turn. Lost an off-fore plate in running. When asked to comment on the performance Jockey N Tomizawa advised that, in his opinion, the gelding may not have handled the shorter back up from its most recent outing. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which mild lameness in the off-fore hoof. Trainer M Kelly was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to the gelding again being permitted to start in a race.
CHEEK TO CHEEK- Slow to begin. Laid in during the early stages of the home straight.
KAYTEE WISDOM- Trainer T Sweeney was fined the sum of $200 for the late declaration of rider on the filly. Raced wide for the majority.
I'M A CHOCOHOLIC- Began awkwardly and bumped before being momentarily crowded and awkwardly placed on heels. Laid out rounding the home turn. Raced wide for the majority.
TOUTE SWEET- Bumped on jumping. Momentarily awkwardly placed on heels and shifted out passing the 300m.
ASGOODASYOUGETT- Steadied near the 500m when crowded between runners.
Race 5: HANNAS TOOWOOMBA BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 1000m
DEHORNED UNICORN- When asked to comment on the performance App S Willis advised her mount travelled only fairly throughout the event and when asked for an effort failed to respond to her urgings. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer R Hay advised on 21 July that the gelding had pulled up well following the event adding that, in his opinion, the gelding is best suited when able to stride freely rather than racing with cover. Mr Hay added further that the intention would now be to experiment with that addition of a tongue tie to the horses gear.
EXPECTANT- Slow to begin.
ON HOLD- Laid out rounding the home turn.
BEAU WITNESS- Restrained in the early stages to obtain a position with cover nearer the inside running rail.
RED BOOMSHAKALAKA- When asked to comment on the performance App K Lenton advised that her mount raced flatly throughout and, in her opinion, may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer M Currie advised on 21 July that the mare had pulled up well following its run and connections would now consider the mare immediate racing future with a mind to a short let up prior to racing again.
Race 6: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES MAIDEN PLATE 1200m
BAD BOY BOONE- Slow into stride. Became awkwardly placed on heels near the 800m.
HANAA BOY- Raced keenly in the backs straight, over-racing near the 900m. Obliged to restrain and shift out away from heels near the 400m. Laid in under pressure down the running.
COBBLE- Bumped on jumping. Obliged to steady and shift out away form heels near the 400m.
SILVER AGENT- Reared in the mounting yard, harmlessly dislodging Jockey J Molloy. Trainer L Hatch was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding as a result. Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped. Jockey J Molloy pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that passing the 400m he did direct his mount out when insufficiently clear of HANAA BOY which was obliged to restrain and shift out, to avoid heels, into the line of COBBLE which was obliged to steady and shift out. Jockey Molloys license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10days to commence 27 July up to and including 5 August. Jockey Molloy was advised of his right to an appeal.
MISS ELLYSE- Bumped on jumping. Under pressure from the 700m and commenced to lose ground from the 500m. Became momentarily awkward in its action near the 400m and was not pressured in the home straight finishing tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer M Kropp advised on 21 July that the filly had pulled up well following the run, adding that the first start under lights may have been to the fillys detriment. Nonetheless, given the circumstances Mr Kropp was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to the filly again being permitted to start in a race.
FLASH DRIVE- App C Baker advised that, in her opinion, the filly did not appreciate the softer going along the inside section of the track. Trainer R Lipp advised that filly would now likely be sent for an immediate spell.
JELAILA- Jockey K Yoshida advised that his mount felt awkward in its action soon after entering the home straight and consequently he eased it down from that point. A post-race veterinary examination reveled the filly to be exhibiting signs of tying up. Trainer J Gleeson advised on 21 July that the filly had pulled up well following the event. Stewards advised Mr Gleeson that the filly would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to racing again.
MIDNIGHT MIRACLE- Raced wide for the majority.
ALZURRI- Tightened, bumped and lost ground on jumping. Disappointed for a run having to be restrained near the 350m.
Race 7: SHERRIN RENTALS MAIDEN PLATE 2000m
MARAVICH (IRE)- Under pressure and commenced to tire form the 500m. Compounded in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer E Fouchard advised on 21 July that the gelding had pulled up well following the event but had come to the end of its preparation and would now be sent for an immediate spell. Ms Fouchard was advised that, in light of the performance, the gelding would need to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
SALLY’S KATO- Began awkwardly and bumped.
KALBAR QUEEN- Jockey L Tilley advised that, in his opinion, his mount may not have appreciated the undulating surface. Stewards intend to inquire into the proximity of Jockey Tilleys arm to App K Lenton (ROCK A BYE IVY) near the 400m.
ROCK A BYE IVY- Shifted in away from heels on jumping and bumped. Laid in under pressure down the running.
BAMBINO DI VINO- Slow to begin and jumped away awkwardly.
COSMIC INSANITY- Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced wide for the majority.
