RACE 2: QBANK CLASS 2 HANDICAP  1300m

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to consider an objection lodged by connections of 2nd placegetter FOUR ACE, against 1st placegetter SOUTH SEA citing interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from connections and viewing the patrol footage Stewards determined that leaving the 200m FOUR ACE had shifted out marginally away from the heels of CHINCHILLA AHEAD when improving into a narrowing run and bumped with SOUTH SEA, this bump was deemed to not have had any detrimental bearing on either runner. Leaving the 100m SOUTH SEA has then laid in and bumped FOUR ACE near the hindquarters causing FOUR ACE to become momentarily unbalanced. SOUTH SEA has then continued to lay in and bumped with FOUR ACE on two more occasions approaching the winning post when racing tight. In considering the severity and effects of the interference as well as the beaten margin of a ½ head, Stewards were of the view that the interference did have a tangible effect on the placings and as such upheld the protest and amended the Judges placings accordingly upon the declaration of correct weight.
