Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to consider a protest lodged by Mr M. Currie, Trainer of 2nd placegetter IRAMA, alleging interference over the final 100m against 1st placegetter NAVAL SEAL. After considering submissions and viewing the Stewards patrol footage, it was established that NAVAL SEAL had been inclined to lay in and had bumped with IRAMA near the 50m when that runner shifted out marginally, before continuing to lay in over the final stages. Stewards noted the minor nature of the interference, the contribution of IRAMA to the interference, the proximity of the interference to the winning post and the manner in which both runners were finishing the race off leading into and subsequent to the bump and were unable to be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred, that IRAMA would have finished ahead of NAVAL and therefore dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the Judges semaphored numbers.
