GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights at tonights meeting:
Race 7- Jockey K Wilson-Taylor +1kg
Race 1: CORNERSTONE RISK GROUP BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1050m
TURN UP THE MUSIC- Raced keenly on heels near the 700m and again near the 500m.
GIGGY- Crowded and buffeted soon after the start and lost ground. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
MISS DE BLAAS- Bumped and crowded soon after the start. Laid in for the majority. Raced wide for the majority.
CLEARLY GEORGE- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
SKY BLUE- Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight before shifting in and soon after again improving onto heels and having to be shifted out leaving the 100m.
BESMARA- Raced wide for the majority.
MR EVANS- Raced keenly near the 900m when being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover. Laid in under pressure down the running.
FRIDAY'S JET- Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped. Raced wide for the majority.
Race 2: GTH GROUP + CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1300m
RAMPANT LION- Laid in marginally abruptly leaving the 100m and bumped becoming unbalanced before being corrected by its rider. Jockey K Wilson-Taylor was advised to exercise grater care in similar circumstances.
ALL BLACK- Bumped near the 800m. Raced wide for the majority.
MYSTERY POWER- Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer L Hatch advised it would now be the intention to send the gelding for a spell.
EXTOL- Raced keenly on heels approaching the 600m when the pace slackened and raced keenly for some distance after. Severely tightened for room leaving the 100m and was momentarily steadied.
HERBIE TOWN- Shifted out marginally from the 200m before bumping leaving the 100m and becoming unbalanced. App T Fenlon was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
PELE PRINCESS- Raced wide from the 700m.
SAVVY BEE (NZ)- Bumped near the 800m. Momentarily crowded near the 700m. Raced keenly near the 600m.
KINGSLAND- Raced wide for the majority.
PORRISTA (NZ)- Raced keenly leaving the 1000m before improving onto heels leaving the 900m having to be steadied and raced keenly for some distance there after. Held up on heels from a point approaching the 400m until entering the home straight.
Race 3: DOW EARTHMOVING MAIDEN HANDICAP 1300m
The start of the event was delayed when HABERFIELD and SIR SNACKALOT were required to be examined by the Veterinarian at the barriers. HABERFIELD after bumping heavily with a gate partition on exiting the mounting yard was passed fit to start. SIR SNACKALOT was examined by the Veterinarian at the request of the rider without any significant abnormalities being detected. Jockey M Savva nonetheless felt the gelding to be off in its action and declined to ride her mount in the event. As such SIR SNACKALOT was declared a late scratching at 6:15pm. Stewards ordered all monies invested on the gelding to be refunded with the following deductions to be applied to all successful wagers placed prior to 6:15pm:
0cents in the dollar for the win
1cents in the dollar for the place on the winner
3cents in the dollar for 2nd place
4ecnts in the dollar for 3rd place.
Trainer B Puckeridge advised it would now be the intention to send the gelding for a spell. Given the circumstances not further action was taken against SIR SNACKALOT by Stewards.
CHOSEN STITCH- Raced keenly in the back straight.
OK ONE MORE- Raced wide for the majority.
STOCKS 'N' BONDS- Raced keenly near the 900m.
DUKE OF BANTRY- Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped. Laid in under pressure down the running, having to be corrected from heels near the 150m.
HABERFIELD- Fractious in the preliminary. Trainer S Matthews was advised the mare would be required to trial under race day conditions prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
RARE MOON- Raced keenly in the back straight.
STRIKE ME PINK- Bumped on jumping.
Race 4: SPENCER FINANCIAL GROUP BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1890m
BOWRIDER- Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly near the 1500m. Laid in under pressure down the running and bumped leaving the 100m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
KNEZE- Raced keenly and laid out between the 1600m–1200m. Became momentarily awkward in its actions leaving the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed swelling to the medial aspect of the near-fore cannon consistent with hitting itself in running. Trainer A Park was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
SHEDRIVESABENTLEY- Bumped on jumping before becoming awkwardly placed on heels soon after. Bumped leaving the 100m and was held up on heels for a short distance after.
BAVARIAN LADY- Restrained leaving the 1700m to obtain a position with cover nearer the inside running rail.
GREY NORTHERN (NZ)- Buffeted on jumping. Raced keenly for some distance leaving the 1500m, over-racing near the 1200m.
SUPER FAIR- Bumped leaving the 100m, shifted in and bumped again.
ORCA- Raced keenly in the back straight. When queried regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding App J Metcalfe advised it had not been her intention to establish such a lead on the field however when her mount commenced to race keenly out of the home straight the first time she had attempted to restrain the gelding however her efforts had been resented so she elected to minimally restrain rather than excessively restraining her mount. Stewards noted the explanation.
Following the running of this event Jockey R Downey advised he had injured his right ankle and after being tendered to by QAS officers was stood down from his remaining engagement. Jockey Downey was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
Race 5: MCGREGOR GOURLAY AGRICULTURAL SERVICES CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1100m
The start of this event was delayed approximately 3 minutes when debris which had blown onto the course proper crossing had to be removed.
Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards and connections of THE LOUVRE (1st place) & PUREZZA (2nd place) to view the official photo finish. After viewing the official photo Stewards were of the view that no margin was present between THE LOUVRE, originally declared 1st by the Judge, and PUREZZA, originally declared 2nd by the Judge and sought a review of the photo finish. After further review of the photo finish the Judges amended the placings to reflect a dead-heat for first between THE LOUVRE & PUREZZA and Stewards subsequently declared correct weight on the Judges amended placings.
THE LOUVRE- Laid out rounding the home turn. Bumped passing the wining post.
GIDDAY GIDDAY- Laid in under pressure down the running. Raced wide for the majority.
NORTH COURT- Shifted in marginally and momentarily crowded MISS ADRENALIN approaching the 1000m before shifting in again leaving the 800m and inconveniencing MISS ADRENALIN. Jockey M Savva was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident.
PUREZZA- Bumped the inside running rail near the 500m. Bumped passing the winning post.
RED COBRA- Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure down the running. Crowded for room before being help up for clear running leaving the 100m and consequently went to the line without being fully tested.
ROCONONO- Began awkwardly and lost ground.
MIGHTY JUDD- Laid in under pressure down the running.
MISS ADRENALIN- Momentarily crowded approaching the 1000m. Obliged to steady from heels leaving the 800m. Laid in under pressure down the running.
Race 6: SUBZERO AIRCONDITIONING BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1625m
ELLA TE AMA- Obliged to steady from heels near the 1100m and raced keenly for some distance thereafter.
EXPECTANT- Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly near the 1300m and again near the 900m.
WHISKY DREAM- Raced wide in the early stages. Shifted in when not fully clear of ELLA TE AMA near the 1100m. Jockey M Savva was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident.
CHASING JACKLEY- Bumped on jumping. Over-raced in the early stages. Laid in under pressure down the running.
MEDICAL AUTOCRAT- Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
Race 7: EMPIRE OF JAPAN MAIDEN PLATE 1625m
JEDIAH- Raced keenly near the 1300m. Raced keenly on heels near the 600m.
MUCHACHO- Laid in under pressure down the running.
NICCONIUM- Slow into stride. Raed wide from the 700m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer K Kemp advised that the gelding is better suited in events when the pace in quicker, though was nonetheless a little disappointing.
VISCOUNT SYDNEY- Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly on heels near the 600m.
TWO TIME GIRL- As Jockey R Downey was unavailable due to illness and no other senior rider was available Stewards permitted Jockey C Krahnen to be substituted as rider of the mare. Additionally, given the lateness of the engagement Stewards permitted App Krahnen to claim only 1kg of her 3kg allowance. Raced keenly near the 1300m. Weakened from the 600m.
ON ANY TUESDAY- Raced keenly in the middle stages.
TRUSTY ROSICA- Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages.
