SUPPLIMENTARY REPORT

From Toowoomba 4 November 2025
Stewards concluded an inquiry into Apprentice R. Thorburn failing to report an occurrence that affected the running of BESEIGE (Race 3), specifically that the gelding felt short in its action, which prevented him being able to ride his mount out over the final 150m. The inquiry was adjourned on the day to consider penalty after R. Thorburn pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR114(2)(a). In determining penalty, Stewards considered R. Thorburn’s guilty plea, his remorse in failing to notify Stewards that BESEIGE felt short in its action, however factored that his actions had contributed to BESEIGE not undergoing a post-race veterinary examination and that he had previously breached a subrule of this rule. In considering all factors, Stewards imposed a $300 fine.

GENERAL

Due to an administration error Stewards permitted a rider change request, in Race 4 at today’s meeting. PORRISTA R Downey Repl. Appr R Thorburn and EXTOL- Appr Jky R Thorburn repl. Jky R Downey. Following the running of Race 4, which was run in mild fog, conditions had become worse prior to the running of Race 5, riders met with Stewards to discuss their concerns with conditions due to the lack of adequate visibility for riders and horses. As a result, Stewards inspected the track and were of the opinion the conditions had become worse to a point where it was unsafe to run this race at the allocated time. After consultation with all parties including riders, TTC staff and TAB Stewards elected to go back a race with the amended start time for Race 5 at 8.12pm and Race 6 8.42pm. At approximately 7.50pm conditions had markedly improved and racing commenced on the amended race times without any further issues.
