From Kilcoy 19/11/2025
Race 1: Trainer J. Capewell advised that MISTER MIGHTY had pulled up well from the disappointing performance and has now been sent for a spell. Stewards advised J. Capwell that a warning would be placed on the gelding for racing greenly.
Race 6: Trainer D. Hansen advised that ROYAL GLADIATOR had pulled up well from the disappointing performance, adding that the gelding appeared to be on the wrong leg and was not comfortable racing on the smaller turning track.
GENERAL
As jockey N. Tomizawa was absent through injury and A. Thompson was not riding at the meeting for acceptable reasons, rider changes were made as per the Stewards summary. Jockey N. Tomizawa will require a medical clearance prior to riding again.
Race 1: MADDY NO SHOW CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1300 M
PAN A MILLION - Bumped at the start. Near the 800m, improved onto heels and was restrained. Jockey L. Tilley reported that it was the intention to position off the speed with cover, like the most recent start where the gelding won when ridden in this manner. He added that he restrained in the early stages from the wide barrier and obtained a position behind JEMOMA ALPILAGE, however when that runner eased approaching the 800m, he had to steady from heels and as a result raced further back than anticipated. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-foreleg. Trainer representative K. Webster was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required before the gelding races or trials again.
NORTH COURT – Apprentice C. Lowe dropped her whip near the 200m.
VON BEE (NZ) – Bumped at the start. Restrained from the wide gate to obtain cover. Jockey J. Molloy was fined $500 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 9 times prior to the 100m, 11 in totality. In assessing penalty, stewards took into consideration J. Molloy’s guilty plea along with the QRIC whip penalty guidelines.
ALL BLACK – Laid in under pressure over the final 100m resulting in rider K. Yoshida not being able to fully test his mount.
LADY ZAYDI – Blundered soon after the start.
RARE MOON – Race wide throughout.
Race 2: BUTLERS CONCRETE CONTRACTORS BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1000 M
The start of this race was delayed when MISHANI EGO was required to be re-saddled.
BEAU WITNESS – Hampered at the start and lost ground.
THISLAND IS MYLAND – Underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers after making contact the enclosure fence and was subsequently cleared to race. Near the 600m shifted out and bumped THAT’S AN EXTRA.
SHOWS A SIGN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight resulting in apprentice C. Lowe changing her whip to her right hand near the 100m.
ON HOLD – Jumped in at the start and bumped THAT’S AN EXTRA which shifted in and hampered BEAU WITNESS which lost ground. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice K. Lenton was questioned in the presence of senior jockey B. Stower, regarding her riding, specifically racing in a leading position whilst racing three wide. K. Lenton stated that her instructions were to jump and be in a forward position and that when riding forward shortly after the start, felt that she was going to be able to clear runners to her inside and lead. She added that when both MISHANI EGO and SHOWS A SIGN improved to her inside, she was obliged to race wide. Co-Trainer C. Geran confirmed the instructions to ride forward. Stewards advised K. Lenton that she had made an error in judgement in continuing to pressure her mount whilst racing in a wide position, that she should have made an effort to give her mount an opportunity to settle, which may have afforded her an option to ease and obtain cover. Stewards, in acknowledging apprentice K. Lenton’s relative inexperience in the circumstances, took no further action.
THAT'S AN EXTRA – Bumped at the start. Raced wide throughout.
MISSY'S READY – Slow to begin. Near the 550m was checked and lost ground. At a subsequent inquiry, jockey B. Stower (THISLAND IS MYLAND) pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) for making insufficient effort to prevent her mount from shifting in. Stewards after taking further evidence from B. Stower, acknowledged that THISLAND IS MY LAND was inclined to lay in at that point, that B. Stower had reacted by turning her mount’s head out to relieve pressure from MISSY’S READY, that the incident occurred at the point of a turn, and therefore could not be satisfied that B. Stower was fully responsible for the incident and did not sustain the charge. B. Stower, was however reprimanded for careless riding for initially not straightening her mount when it shifted ground.
Race 3: EASTCOAST CONCRETE CONTRACTORS CLASS 1 PLATE 1000 M
STOP THE ROT – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey H. Richardson stated her instructions were to ride forward and lead similarly to the previous start. She added that after obtaining the lead near the 800m the gelding travelled keenly and commenced to weaken from the home turn. Trainer J. Hanna advised that the gelding was particularly stirred up pre-race and it would be his intention to drop STOP THE ROT back in distance. A veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
BLUISH HUE – Raced wide throughout.
DUCHESS BREE – Slow to begin.
SILK SONIC – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Held up for clear running from the 200m until near the 150m before shifting out abruptly. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m and near the 50m had to be corrected by the rider.
VIALE – Momentarily steadied rounding the home turn when BLUISH HUE shifted in marginally. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Stewards after the running of this race observed some thunderstorm activity in the region. When reviewing this activity through the Bureau of Meteorology and storm tracking software, Stewards were satisfied the race meeting could proceed safely without risk to participants or horses.
Race 4: AUSTMIX AUSTRALIA BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 2150 M
OUTBURST – Commenced to race keenly from the 1600m and near the 1500m improved onto the heels of FLYTHING ROTHE, was steadied and shifted out, resulting in SHEDRIVESABENTLY which was following having to be steadied. Steadied from heels when racing keenly leaving the 1400m.
DEMARCAY (GB) – When the pace eased near the 1500m was steadied from heels and raced keenly until near the 1400m.
BAVARIAN LADY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Kilcoy on 19 November 2025 and was cleared to race. Apprentice K. Lenton reported that it was not her intention to lead, that her instructions were to be positive from the barriers and that when her mount travelled comfortably, let it stride from a wide position to the lead near the 1750m.
REVELAIDE – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages and near the 1500m improved onto the heels and was steadied. Near the 1400m, improved onto heels and was steadied.
FLYING ROTHE – Raced keenly in the early stages and approaching the 1400m when being steadied, raced with its head in the air for a short distance.
SHEDRIVESABENTLEY – Restrained shortly after the start to obtain cover. Over raced from leaving the 2000m until passing the 1800m. Approaching the 1500m was steadied from heels. Near the 1300m improved onto heels and was steadied.
FLASH PRINCE – Jumped awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages until allowed to stride and obtain a forward position closer to the rail near the 1200m. When asked to comment, apprentice O. Kendal advised that she was forced to race wide in the early stages and worked too hard to obtain a forward position, which she felt had a detrimental effect on the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
KATERINI – Raced keenly from the 1600m until near the 1400m.
ANOTHER DAZZLER – Raced keenly in the early stages. Obliged to alter course near the 200m when KATERINI laid in.
Race 5: THE V.J. BUTLER MEMORIAL QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1050 M
EINSTAG – Shifted out near the 900m.
SEAMS LOGICAL – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly over the final 200m when placed under pressure.
OVER DRAFT – Shortly after the start was buffeted and became unbalanced between KING OF GERALDINE which shifted in slightly and PROFITS PRAYER. When asked to comment, apprentice K. Lenton advised that the gelding jumped well but was unable to lead and that while her mount travelled comfortably, when asked to improve from the home turn, failed to respond to her riding.
SPIRITOFTHEWORLD – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
PROFITS PRAYER – Bumped shortly after the start and became unbalanced. Commenced to over race with its head in the air near the 900m and shortly after was steadied when EINSTAG shifted out and away from SEAMS LOGICAL. Raced greenly from the 800m and hung out and near the 700m shifted in and had to be restrained from heels. Jockey B. Stower reported her mount raced greenly throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Currie was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners and for poor performance.
OH PRETTY EMMA – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn.
Race 6:MARY BUTLER MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M
The start of this race was delayed when DEFYING put its head down in the barriers and shifted the blinkers, which then required to be readjusted.
Correct weight was delayed for Stewards, the Starter and the connections of DEFYING to view the patrol films to establish if the gelding had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the official films, taking evidence from connections, including apprentice K. Lenton, Stewards determined that DEFYING reared as the start was effected and remained in the gates, before again rearing and throwing its head around and then jumping from the barriers some significant distance behind the field. Stewards therefore declared DEFYING a runner and gave correct weight on the judge’s placing’s.
A post-race veterinary examination of DEFYING revealed a small graze at the base of the right ear. Trainer’s representative B. Mackie was advised that DEFYING would be required to officially trial to the Stewards satisfaction before being permitted to race again.
BON ICHI – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up from rounding the home turn until shifting out leaving the 200m to obtain clear running.
XTRAVAGANT FRIEND – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
SYMPHONION – Held up for clear running from the 200m until near the 100m.
LOVE TO BE PROUD – Slow to begin.
GAELIC SPIRIT – Laid in near the 150m before being corrected by the rider.
CHOCECLAIR – Raced wide throughout.
UPSTART LOVER – As there was no suitable senior rider available, Stewards acceded to a request by trainer M. Nolan for apprentice O. Kendal as the replacement rider for the mare. When questioned regarding leading, apprentice O. Kendal advised that she was instructed to be positive from the outside barrier and lead if possible. Trainer M. Nolan confirmed the instructions and advised that this had been the intention at the mare’s first two runs this preparation, but circumstances had not worked out. While noting UPSTART LOVER had previously had form of leading, M. Nolan was nonetheless reminded of his obligations under the provisions of AR100(1)(a) to advise Stewards of a change of tactics.
Race 7: JAKE'S CAKES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1890 M
The start of this race was delayed approximately 2 minutes when IMAGINA underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was subsequently cleared to race.
DUKE OF BANTRY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
