SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Thursday 11th December 2025

Trackwork rider A Cochrane was charged pursuant to AR113 in that, on a day in October 2025 she was in possession of and did use her mobile phone whilst mounted at Toowoomba trackwork. Ms A Cochrane was fined the sum of $200. In considering penalty Stewards noted this was Ms A Cochrane’s first breach of this rule, her status as track work rider, as well as the obvious safety risk engaging in any such activity when mounted presents.

Ms A Cochrane was issued a further charge pursuant to AR228(d) in that on a day in October 2025, she did 3 videos containing offensive, obscene, and defamatory comments towards another licensee which she did disseminate via snapchat. Ms A Cochrane was fined the sum of $700, with $500 to be wholly suspended under the provisions of AR 283(5) on the grounds that he does not breach this rule or a similar rule for a 2-year period.  In considering penalty Stewards noted this was Ms A Cochrane’s first breach of this rule, her guilty plea and the need for both specific deterrence to Ms Cochrane and general deterrence to other members of industry. Ms Cochrane was advised of her appeal rights in relation to both matters.

GENERAL

Race 1: THANK YOU TTC MEMBERS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1625m

BURLEIGH MAGIC- Became awkwardly placed on heels and was steadied near the 1200m. Again became momentarily awkward on heels near the 900m.

MAN IN THE MIRROR- Severely rightened and obliged to severely check almost falling near the 50m.

SON OF BEEBEE- Raced keenly in the back straight before being permitted to stride forward from the 900m obtaining a leading position nearer the inside running rail near the 800m. Shifted in marginally near the 900m despite the efforts of its rider and crowded runners to the inside. Laid in under pressure down the running. App K Lenton, in the presence of Senior Jockey G Geran, pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in that she did exercise insufficient effort in preventing he mount from shifting in abruptly under riding near the 50m obliging SEACRYPTION to be checked and tightened in onto MAN IN THE MIRROR which was severely tightened and severely checked. App Lenton’s license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 11days to commence upon the completion of a previous suspension on 27 December, up to and including 7 January 2025. In assessing the matter Stewards noted SON OF BEEBEE had been inclined to laying for the majority of the home straight and had shifted in abruptly away from BURLEIGH MAGIC nearing the 50m, given the nature of the shift it was likely that some interference was likely to occur even if App Lenton had exercised sufficient effort in straightening her mount in the initial stages of that shift, this fact was deemed to be mitigating when assessing penalty. Nonetheless, App Lenton’s lack of prompt or sufficient efforts to correct her mounts inward shift, when possible, at a stage which would have significantly mitigated the interference to inside runners was in the Stewards view blameworthy and culpable. App Lenton was advised of her right to an appeal.

GOING TO THE SUN- Raced keenly in the middle stages, racing ungenerously near the 1200m having to be steadied.

SEACRYPTION- When no other rider was available Stewards permitted App R Thorburn to ride the mare 1kg over its allocated weight, 2kg over App Thorburn’s minimum riding weight. Trainer M Currie was subsequently fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR227(a) for negligence which led to a breach of AR190(3) after declaring App Thorburn as rider of the mare when App Thorburn had advised Mr Currie that he would be unable to satisfy the weight requirement.
