RACE 7:SHANNON SIGN COMPANY MAIDEN HANDICAP 2000m

Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards heard a protest lodged by jockey L Tilley, rider of the third placed CUT DIAMONDS, against race winner DUKE OF BANTRY (G Geran) alleging interference near the 130m.  After considering all relevant submissions Stewards were of the view that approaching the 130m that CUT DIAMONDS whilst attempting to obtain a run between IN AND AWAY (App R Thorburn) and DUKE OF BANTRY had bumped IN AND AWAY causing CUT DIAMONDS to shift out bumping the hindquarters of DUKE OF BANTRY, this causing DUKE OF BANTRY to shift in, momentarily impeding the run of CUT DIAMONDS. Stewards were particularly mindful of the contribution that CUT DIAMONDS made to this incident and subsequently dismissed the protest and correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers.
