SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
GENERAL
As apprentice R. Thorburn failed to arrive on-course from the Doomben meeting for Race 1, Stewards permitted apprentice F. Sandkuhl as the replacement rider of THE DEPUTY. Apprentice R. Thorburn was fined $100 under the provisions of AR127(1) for failing to fulfill an engagement.
Co-trainer T Sweeney was advised that a $200 fine would be imposed the late declaration of L. Tilley as the rider for HEZA ROMEO (Race 3) under the provisions of LR67(1).
RACE 1: LAWRENCE & HANSON BM70 HANDICAP 1300 M
The start of this race was delayed when GIDDAY GIDDAY required farrier attention after shifting the off-hind plate in the saddling enclosure.
FARNBOROUGH (IRE) – Rounding the home turn was bumped twice and became unbalanced. Rider A. Butler reported that after beginning only fairly the gelding settled further back than he had anticipated, however travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages. He added that he placed his mount under pressure from the 500m and that the gelding only ran on fairly, and in his opinion was disappointing.
THE DEPUTY (NZ) – Slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
JUSTICE SERVED – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have been struck with a clod to the left eye and was treated on-course.
UNLEASH – Laid in under pressure in the concluding stages.
GIDDAY GIDDAY – After having the off-hind plate refitting before proceeding to the barriers, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. Raced wide throughout. Lost the near-fore and off-hind plate in the running. Apprentice K. Lenton reported that the mare raced flat and when placed under pressure from the 600m failed to respond to her riding and weakened before she elected to ease her mount down upon entering the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer N. Keal advised that the mare would be sent for a spell. Stewards advised N. Keal that considering the performance, the mare would be required to officially trial to Stewards’ satisfaction before racing again.
MALECON - Slow to begin. Leaving the 500m momentarily steadied when racing in restricted room. Shifted out rounding the home turn and bumped FARNBOROUGH which became unbalanced on two occasions.
RACE 2: CARPET ONE TOOWOOMBA CLASS 2 PLATE 1300 M
REGGAE FIRE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Rider D. Boche reported that he had concerns with the gelding’s breathing during the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting a lower respiratory noise. Trainer P. Wallace was advised that the gelding would be required to obtain a veterinary clearance inclusive of the results of an endoscopic examination.
SNITZOND - Jumped out at the start. Laid out rounding the home turn.
WARILLA GORILLA – Raced keenly in the early stages. Leaving the 800m raced in restricted room and was steadied between KINDLY (NZ) and REGGAE FIRE which shifted in. D. Boche, the rider of REGGAE FIRE, was reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) and was advised that he would be required to make greater effort to relieve pressure in similar circumstances.
LINTHORPE LUCK – Tightened for room at the start. Leaving the 800m was steadied when momentarily placed in restricted room when MEKANIC shifted in. P. Hamblin, the rider of MEKANIC, was advised to exercise greater care. Held up for clear running from the 150m until leaving the 100m.
MISS DE MEDICI - Lost the off-fore plate in the running.
RARE MOON – Began awkwardly and then made heavy contact with MEKANIC for several strides. Raced wide throughout. Lost off-hind plate in the running. Rider G. Geran reported, it was his intention to race more forward, however after receiving interference at the start he was obliged to settle further back in the field. He added that after being caught wide, he restrained to obtain cover, however was forced to race wide, adding that the mare in his opinion was disappointing.
UPSTART LOVER – Bumped on several occasions and became unbalanced rounding the home turn.
KINDLY (NZ) - Approaching the home turn was held up for clear running before shifting out and bumping UPSTART LOVER which became unbalanced, a short distance later was taken out by SNITZOND which laid out, resulting in UPSTART LOVER bumping with WARILLA GORILLA.
MEKANIC – Tightened for room on jumping and then bumped on several occasions with RARE MOON.
RACE 3: FLORENCE & MARABEL COLLECTIONS CLASS 2 PLATE 1300 M
ITZA MOTZA - Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 1100m commenced to race ungenerously with its head in the air and then had to be checked near the 1050m when improving into a run between MISS HIGHFALUTIN and JOHNNY THE KID. Near the 900m raced keenly with its head in the air. Apprentice R. Thorburn reported his mount raced keenly in the early stages and when asked to improve from the 500m, failed to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of tying up and was treated on-course.
TOKYO BANDIT – Shortly after the start laid out taking INQUISITOR wider on the track.
INQUISITOR – Shortly after the start taken wider on the track. Near the 700m bumped the running rail and became unbalanced. Held up for clear running from the 500m until the 400m.
HEZA ROMEO – Rounding the home turn was steadied from the heels of TOKYO BANDIT. Stewards adjourned an inquiry into this incident to a time and date to be fixed. Rider L. Tilley stated that after beginning well, he rode his mount forward from the wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail.
JOHNNY THE KID – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Near the 700m was steadied when bumped by ITZA MOTZA which shifted in when placed in restricted room by MISS HIGH FALUTIN which momentarily shifted in. Near the 400m was momentarily steadied when INQUISITOR shifted in marginally and then held up for a short distance later.
MISS HIGHFALUTIN (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
RACE 4: PLATINUM GLASS & SECURITY BM62 HANDICAP 1100 M
BEEN A SECRET - Leaving the 900m, was checked and lost ground. Rider M. Savva the rider of BUTT HEADS pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) for failing to make sufficient effort to prevent her mount from shifting in when insufficiently clear of BEEN A SECRET which was tightened for room, checked and lost its rightful running. M. Savva’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of thirteen (13) days, commencing midnight 14/02/2026 and concluding midnight 27/02/2026. Apprentice F. Sandkuhl, reported that after receiving interference near the 900m her mount travelled comfortably however, failed to respond to her riding upon entering the home straight and felt the performance was disappointing.
HEROIC CHIEF - Slow to begin. Near the 800m was eased when IN NO DOUBT shifted in marginally. Near the 700m, improved onto heels and was steadied. Near the 100m was momentarily held up when ALL I WANT IS YOU shifted out.
ALL I WANT IS YOU – Slow to begin. Near the 750m, when racing in restricted room to the inside of HEROIC CHIEF, made contact with the running rail on several occasions.
IN NO DOUBT - Steadied when crowded for room at the start. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have thumps.
MISS LEANA - Rider N. Tomizawa, stated that the filly travelled well to the home turn however, when placed under pressure in the home straight did not respond as he had anticipated and felt MISS LEANA was not entirely comfortable on today’s firmer track.
RACE 5: WIN TELEVISION BM62 HANDICAP 1625 M
CALL ME LEGEND – Near the 1400m was eased when ELEANOR NANCY (J. Lloyd) shifted in when not fully clear. J. Lloyd was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground. When the pace eased near the 1250m improved onto heels and had to be restrained.
SON OF BEEBEE – Stood flat footed and lost significant ground. Trainer K. Kemp was advised that the gelding would be required to trial to Stewards satisfaction prior to racing again. Near the 1200m was inconvenienced and forced extremely wide on the track.
SOCK'EMSID – Near the 1500m clipped heels and blundered resulting in the rider becoming severely unbalanced. At an inquiry, Stewards established that SOCK’EMSID was racing tight to the outside of CALL ME LEGEND, which in turn was racing to the outside of DUBBLE HUSSLE on the rail. As runners progressed from the chute to meet up with the course proper, in making the turn near the crossing, CALL ME LEGEND shifted marginally out resulting in SOCK’EMSID clipping that runner’s heels. Steward’s in considering all the evidence, in particular the running rail position at the point of the incident, could not attribute any blame for careless riding on any one rider and took no further action. Near the 1250m, when racing keenly, was steadied when racing in restricted room.
KNOWITALL FRANK – Began awkwardly and lost ground. After leaving the 1500m, raced keenly and approaching the 1200m improved onto the heals of CALL ME LEGEND and when being restrained shifted out abruptly inconveniencing SON OF BEEBEE and forcing that runner extremely wider on the track. Leaving the 1200m continued to race ungenerously and hung out. Raced wide throughout. Laid in in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be tying up and was treated on-course. Co-trainer C. Geran was advised that KNOWITALL FRANK would be required to officially trial to Stewards satisfaction prior to racing again.
DUBBLE HUSSLE – Near the 1400m raced keenly for a short distance when crossed by ELEANOR NANCY.
RACE 6: 1EQUINE - FOR THE EQUINE ATHLETE BM65 HANDICAP 870 M
CHARMED PASSAGE (NZ) – Near the 700m was steadied when tightened for room between SAPANA’S GIRL which shifted out marginally and MEDALS which shifted in and away from DIAMANTINA ROSE (K. Lenton) which shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice K. Lenton was reprimanded for careless under the provisions of AR131(a) in this incident.
INQUISITIVE LEGEND – Slow to begin and shifted out making contact with CHARMED PASSAGE and lost ground. Shortly after entering the home straight was inclined to lay in behind heels before being shifted out for clear running.
SPIKED - Began awkwardly and lost ground.
RACE 7: BARRIER REEF POOLS COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 M
CHIDGEY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to resuming racing from an extended period and was subsequently cleared to race. Rider L. Tilley reported at scale that on jumping away he had wrenched his lower back which he advised restricted him in being able to ride his mount out to his full ability.
PAPARACHA - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to resuming racing from an extended period and was subsequently cleared to race. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
COMIN'HOMETOYOU – Slow to begin.
KIDS INTHE KITCHEN - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to resuming racing from an extended period and was subsequently cleared to race. Jumped out at the start and bumped XTRAVAGANT GIFT. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
MAFIOSA – Raced wide throughout. Rider K. Zechner reported that the gelding was not comfortable on today’s firmer track. Trainer N. Beck reported that upon return to his stable, MAFIOSA was found to have jarred up in both forelegs and that he would have his vet look over the gelding and report back to Stewards the findings. Stewards advised N. Beck that a veterinary clearance would be required before the gelding races again.
MAGIC STEPS - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to resuming racing from an extended period and was subsequently cleared to race. Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a heart murmur. Trainer G. Banks was advised that the gelding would require a vet clearance inclusive of the results of an echocardiograph before racing again.
XTRAVAGANT GIFT – Bumped at the start.
RACE 8: JOE WAGNER GROUP FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 M
Stewards declared ZERO a late scratching at 9.21pm on veterinary advice when the gelding became fractious in the tie-up stalls.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets be refunded on ZERO with the following deductions to apply:
1st CAITLIN 0c win, 2c place
2nd CHOCECLAIR 7 place
3rd TUESDAY 5c
TE ELCEE – Slow to begin. Momentarily eased approaching the 100m when EXCESS CAPITAL shifted in. Rider J. Lloyd reported that after being slow to begin he was obliged to pressure his mount, which never travelled comfortably and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
LETTIE'S LOT – Steadied near the 800m.
TUESDAY - Raced wide throughout. Near the 800m shifted in tightening LETTIE’S LOT and EXCESS CAPITAL which were both steadied as a result. M. Savva the rider of TUESDAY was reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in this incident. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
CHOCECLAIR – Held up for a short distance passing the 600m.
EXCESS CAPITAL - Steadied near the 800m.
DESERT DAWN – Raced wide throughout.
