RACE 7: LASER CLINICS AUSTRALIA MAIDEN HANDICAP 1625 M
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by apprentice K. Lenton the rider of the second placed STRIKE ME PINK against first placed DREAM THINKER (G. Cartwright), alleging interference in the home straight. Stewards after hearing evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the stewards patrol footage, were of the opinion that leaving the 200m, DREAM THINKER commenced to shift out and brushed STRIKE ME PINK as DREAM THINKER was being corrected by the rider. Both runners then continued a straight path until near the 100m where DREAM THINKER shifted out and brushed STRIKE ME PINK before being corrected by the rider and then shifted in two horse widths. Near the 50m DREAM THINKER then commenced to shift out after being struck with the whip at the same time STRIKE ME PINK which had its head turned out, laid in contributing to the heavy contact between both runners near the 20m in which both horses became unbalanced, before G. Cartwright straightened DREAM THINKER which went to the line without being pressured. When considering the interference suffered to STRIKE ME PINK, the short neck margin between 2nd and 1st and how both runners finished the race off, Stewards were satisfied that had the interference not occurred, DREAM THINKER would have finished ahead of STRIKE ME PINK at the conclusion of the event and therefore dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the judges numbers.
DREAM THINKER – Leaving the 900m bumped and became unbalanced. Shifted out leaving the 200m and brushed STRIKE ME PINK and again near the 100m. Shifted out near the 50m and near the 20m bumped with STRIKE ME PINK and became unbalanced. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
UP THE CREEK (NZ) – Slow to begin and then bumped between runners. Raced wide from the 900m. Leaving the 900m shifted in and bumped DREAM THINKER which became momentarily unbalanced and RUBOS which was racing on the inside was momentarily restricted for room. M. Murphy, the rider of UP THE CREEK, was reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in this incident. Rider M. Murphy reported that the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages but failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure. He added the gelding had made a coughing sound upon pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a lower respiratory noise. Trainer S. Croxford was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of endoscopic examination results prior to racing again.
STRIKE ME PINK – Brushed by DREAK THINKER leaving the 200m and near the 100m. Bumped near the 20m and became unbalanced.
