GENERAL

The track rating was upgraded from a Soft 5 to a Good 4 at 3.40pm.

I’M SO ELEGANT was a late withdrawal at 2.20pm after the mare became cast in its box at the stable. Co-trainer C. Geran was notified the mare requires a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

As rider A. Bakos was ill, she was replaced as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. A. Bakos was notified she requires a medical clearance prior to again riding.

When afforded an opportunity to explain the circumstances around the withdrawal of both EXO MISS and FOXY CHEVAL from Race 2, several hours after the fields had been released, leaving only 5 runners at that stage, to compete in the race, Trainer L. Hatch said he had nominated and accepted for both horses with the expectation that both would be starters, albeit they were closing on their current preparation. He said some time after the fields were released, he was made aware that both horses were not at their peak to compete and decided in consultation with his stable foreman, to withdraw both fillies and send them immediately for a spell. Mr. Hatch acknowledged the perception that could be drawn with the withdrawal of the two horses not long after acceptances, when had they not accepted for the race, it was a strong possibility the race may have been abandoned due to insufficient runners. He added his intentions were genuine and had the fillies’ condition not peaked, they would have remained in the field.
