Central Warrego Race Club – Saturday, 2 March 2024
 
Stewards acting under the provision of AR132(7)(a)(ii) fined Jockey B. Richardson the sum of $600 for her use of the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m point in Race 4 at Charleville in the LINES FAMILY OPEN HANDICAP. In determining penalty, Stewards noted this was Ms Richardson’s 3rd offence under this rule in the past 6 months. Ms Richardson was advised of her right to an appeal.
 
 
Race 1: SHADFORTHS-WANDOAN WINDMILL VILLAGE BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1000m)
 
 
TELL THE WORLD – Slow to begin. Obliged to be momentarily steady when VALAR DOHAERIS got tightened onto the running rail approaching the 600m. Raced at the tail of the field throughout. When questioned, trainer R. Hay stated he was not disappointed with the performance, stating that the gelding would be better suited over further distances in the future, adding that the fast tempo proved detrimental to the gelding’s winning chances. He further added the gelding would derive significant fitness benefit from the event.
 
CHEVY NOVA – Trainer L. Barnes was fined $100 by Stewards acting under the provision of AR206(1) for failing to stitch the bandages on the gelding when presented in the mounting yard which required for removal. Slow to begin.
 
JOEY JAWS – When questioned regarding the gelding settling further forward than may have been expected, Apprentice A. Graham stated after being given no specific instructions, after the gelding began well, she elected to allow her mount to stride forward and maintain the tempo she was establishing. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
TAKEMEOUTBACK – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. 
 
KIRELLA SHORES – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
LAYLAH’S WISH – Began very awkwardly. Approaching the 600m when over-racing, tightened VALAR DOHAERIS onto the running rail.
 
VALAR DOHAERIS – Began awkwardly and bumped. Tightened onto the running rail approaching the 900m when LAYLAH’S WISH commenced to race fiercely and made contact for several strides.
 
 
RACE 2: NUTRIEN/JUANDAH QUARRY MAIDEN PLATE (900m)
 
ROGUE ARTIST – Severely checked and obliged to alter course approaching the 600m when SWISS GRAND commenced to buck and shifted out abruptly.
 
SWISS GRAND – Shortly after the start, restrained off the heels of ABSOLVE before commencing to buck in the early stages, shifting out sharply resulting in Apprentice A. Graham being dislodged when attempting to jump the outside running rail approaching the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the gelding’s held Trainer J Patterson’s stable representative M. Patterson was advised by Stewards acting under the provision of AR75 that the gelding would be required to undergo a barrier trial and obtain a Vet Certificate prior to racing again. Apprentice Jky A. Graham was examined by QAS and stood down by Stewards acting on medical advice for the remainder of the day due to general soreness. Apprentice Graham was advised she would require a medical clearance prior to racing again.
 
ABSOLVE – Approaching the 800m, shifted in when insufficiently clear of SWISS GRAND which was obliged to restrain. Apprentice T. Noble was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
 
Race 3: COL& ANNE HICKEY MEMORIAL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1200m)
 
NYTHE – Bumped on jumping.
 
ROGUE ARTIST – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover for majority in the event.
 
SEPARATIST – Began awkwardly. Hung out under pressure in the home straight proving difficult to ride out. Trainer R. Hay was advised a Warning would be placed on the gelding’s record for its racing manners.
 
THE UPRISING – Raced in restricted room approaching the 1100m for a short distance. Jockey C. Rogers was reprimanded by Stewards acting under the provision of under AR131(b) for failing to ride her mount out to the finish. In assessing penalty, Stewards noted her remorse and excellent record in relation to the rule and were comfortably satisfied her actions hadn’t cost the gelding first place.
 
MOFF FIGHTER – Stewards approved Apprentice J. Baker to be declared the replacement rider of the gelding when Apprentice A. Graham was indisposed. Bumped on jumping. Bumped the running rail approaching the 600m.
 
LADY MANTAGNA – Blundered on jumping and subsequently may have settled further back than expected. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg. Acting under the provision of AR75(c) Stewards advised Trainer M. Goodwin a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.
 
RAVERA – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.  
 
 
Race 4:RIVERINA STOCKFEEDS WANDOAN CUP BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1200m)
 
MUIRON – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
MOORABINDA MICK – Stewards permitted Apprentice J. Golden to be declared the replacement rider of the gelding when Apprentice A. Graham was indisposed. Began awkwardly before being hampered between runners. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
HOLIDAY DREAMS – Raced wide and without cover in the middle stages.
 
COLHOUN – Began awkwardly and bumped. Bumped the running rail heavily on a number of occasions approaching the 600m.
 
ROSE OF TAORMINA – Bumped on jumping.
 
CLEARLY GEORGE – Bumped on jumping.
 
 
Race 5: 2024 TEREQUIP MILES BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP (1200m)
 
 
SCREAMING DIVA – Bumped on jumping.
 
SETHLANS – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
ANNAKURI – Bumped on jumping.
 
MY GIRL SKY – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Weakened out of the event under pressure in the home straight.
 
CADOUIN – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start being affected.
