GENERAL
Appr Jky T Wheeler did not ride at today’s meeting; Stewards accepted his explanation and took no further action. Rider changes are listed as per the Stewards Summary. Stewards upgraded the Track after the running of Race 1 to a Soft 5 and after the running of Race 3 further upgraded the track to a Good 4 for the remainder of the program.
Due to a number of riders having engagements at the TAB Meeting at Toowoomba, Stewards after consultation with the Club amended the racing times as follows: Race 2- 1.40pm, Race 3- 2.15pm, Race 4- 3.00pm and Race 5- 3.45pm.
Race 1: DARLING DOWNS FREIGHT SERVICES MAIDEN PLATE 825M
ATHOL MAC- After racing in a forward position for the majority of the event, began to weaken from the 150m point.
LATE NIGHT TALKING- Over raced for a short distance from the 600m point before settling.
MISS BEES WINGS- After being slow to begin raced towards the rear of the field for the majority while racing wide.
RUPEEZY- Slow to begin. Raced wide from the home turn for the remainder. Tended to lay in for a short distance in the home straight before being corrected by the rider. Ran on strongly over the concluding stages of the event.
OVER THE FIRE- After entering the home straight tended to lay in before being corrected by the rider.
Race 2: DALBY TYRES QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200M
CHICK CHICK STICK- After beginning awkwardly, was somewhat slow into stride and then raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. Began to improve into the race from the 400m, began to lay in in the home straight for the remainder of the event.
MISSION POSSIBLE- Slow to begin.
WEATHER- Slow to begin, raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event.
MISS DRAMATICA- Stewards spoke with Trainer Ms L Powell regarding the seemingly improved performance of the Mare. Ms Powell advised that she was very pleased with the Mare’s run at Ipswich on the 14/8/2025 where she ran well while being wide after drawing the wide alley. Ms Powell also advised the Mare has worked well and that the stable was expecting a forward showing, as she was of the opinion this field today was a weaker one than the one she encountered at Ipswich and thought she could win the race.
SHE’S GOT GRACE- Raced wide for the majority of the event.
GOOD DAY MAE- Slow to begin, raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event while racing wide.
Correct weight was delayed allowing Appr Jky M Goring and Stable representative for Mr. B Gorman, Mr. J Johannes to view the photo finish as well as the Stewards footage of the race from the home turn. After viewing the photo and footage available, Appr Jky M Goring accepted the Judges numbers as semaphored.
Race 3: WOOD’S GRAIN CLASS B HANDICAP 1200M
XUANFENG- Raced wide for the majority
GLITTERSCRIPT- Began to weaken out of the event from the home turn after racing in a forward position for the majority.
SWEET ABOUT ME- Raced in a forward position but wide for some distance before beginning to weaken from the 400m and raced disappointingly from that point. Failed to improve into the race despite the urging from the rider to do so. A post-race Vet examination was ordered by Stewards due to the seemingly disappointing performance. This examination revealed an elevated heart rate, with a poor post-race recovery. Stewards spoke with Mr Groves who advised he was disappointed in the run. The had a hard run throughout the event. Post Race she travelled and ate well that evening and has continued to show no ill effects from the run.
SPRUCE- Due to Appr Jky T Wheeler not being able to ride at this meeting he was replaced by Jky P Hamblin. Stewards heard a submission from Trainer Ms C Baker and due to the horse’s demeanour Stewards approved Ms Baker’s request to put a senior rider or a non-claiming apprentice on the Mare. Raced towards the rear of the field for the majority before improving into the race from a position near the 400m point.
DELORIS- Raced at the rear of the field for the majority while travelling wide. Began to improve into the race from the 400m and ran on well over the final stages of the event.
MINT STREET- Raced in a three-wide for the majority.
Race 4: THE WARRA HOTEL WARRA CUP BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1100M
DEVIL’S RITE- Laid in for a short distance from the 600m point. Began to lay in substantially shortly after entering the home straight for some distance despite the best efforts by the rider to correct the horse. As a result of laying in at approximately the 200m inconvenienced RUMI STAR to its immediate inside
TRANSCELTIC- Leaving the 400m laid in crowding GIGGY for a short distance and then approaching the home turn, shifted in, when attempting to obtain a more forward position dictated GIGGY out which in turn resulted in THIEF BY NIGHT being forced wider. Stewards advised Appr Jky B Baker to exercise more care and to ensure she has sufficient room when shifting ground in the future. Raced wide in the home straight.
KIPTANUI- Raced at the rear of the field for some distance before improving into the event from the 400m point.
HELIKEDEMPRETTY- Laid in while racing in the home straight for a short distance before being corrected by the rider.
THIEF BY NIGHT- Entering the home turn was forced race wide from the home turn as a result of GIGGY being dictated out by another runner.
GIGGY-Stewards accepted Trainer Mr H Richardson’s explanation for the late rider on the gelding and took no further action. At approximately the 400m point as a result of TRANSCELTIC laying in, was inconvenienced and then just prior to the home turn was dictated out by TRANSCELTIC which shifted out to obtain clear running and a more forward position. As a result of this shift THIEF BY NIGHT was momentarily forced wider from that point. Raced wide without cover approximately from the 400m point.
RUMI STAR- Slow to begin. While racing one off the inside running rail at approximately the 200m point was inconvenienced by DEVIL’S RITE which was laying in from that point.
DUBIOUS LOVE- Raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event despite the riders best efforts to improve into the event.
Race 5: RDO EQUIPMENT BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1400M
HARLEQUIN FIELD- Raced wide for the majority of the event.
TOKYO BANDIT- Raced towards the rear of the field for the majority despite the riders best efforts to improve.
MISTER SELFIE- Raced wide for the majority.
THE STONE MASON- Raced wide for the majority of the event.
STORMTROOPER- After beginning well, drifted back in the field racing towards the rear until the 500m point where it improved into the race finishing the race off strongly over the final stages while racing wide.
TORRENTIAL- Raced at the rear of the field for the majority, failed to improve into the race despite the best efforts of the rider to do so.
