Race 3: XXXX Gold Maiden Plate – 1100m
After the horses were loaded into the barriers a barrier malfunction occurred whereby all barriers opened prematurely. A false start was immediately signalled by the starter, however the majority of the field completed a full circuit of the track. Stewards after giving consideration to Australian Rules of Racing 132 and 139, declared this event a no race and bearing in mind the hot weather conditions, deemed it unsuitable for the race to be re-run today. Subsequent to this event, the starter reported to stewards that the remainder of the program would be started manually.
NATIVE- Apprentice E Ljung was dislodged when the barriers opened. Apprentice Ljung was examined by the ambulance officials and cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.
Race 4: Kardinia Holdings (DL&BM West)/Warwick Daily News QTIS 3yo Maiden Handicap – 1350m
SIR ALBERT – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground. When questioned as to the disappointing performance, rider E. Ljung advised that the gelding stood flatfooted at the start and lost valuable ground and for the duration of the event never travelled at any stage, however did run on fairly in the home straight. Apprentice Ljung added that in her opinion the gelding would be better suited in races over further distance than that of today’s event.

THE LUCKY ONE – Rider E. Ljung advised that after beginning well she obtained a forward position and travelled well during the event, however when placed under pressure from the 700m the gelding failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing. She added that in her opinion her mount did not feel entirely comfortable on the rain affected surface today. Trainer J Dann could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance other than the horse may be better suited on firmer tracks then today’s conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from colic.
