GENERAL
As A Thompson was not riding due to personal reasons and Bradley Appo was ill, replacements were made as per the race day summary.
Race 1: Hector Hockings Memorial Class 3 Plate 1100 metres
The start was delayed when several horses proved difficult to load.
Snap On – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
Go Wandji – Began awkwardly.
Trojan Angel – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced wide and without cover from the 700m.
Race 2: Peter Watt Memorial QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap 800 metres
Rising Spirit – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out throughout.
Dubai Classic – Raced in restricted room for some distance shortly after the start. Laid out under pressure in the home straight and shifted wider on the track.
Golden Groove – Began awkwardly bumping another runner. Apprentice M Castle was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she used her whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful that this was her fourth offence since the 8th of August 2020.
Race 3: Trevor Locke Memorial Class 2 Handicap 800 metres
Inciter – Bumped on jumping. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
Peta Calada – Raced in restricted room for some distance passing the 700m.
Roots'n'rocks – Blundered on jumping away.
Jondy Rocket – Bumped on jumping. Steadied approaching the finishing line when awkwardly placed on heels.
Race 4: Mick Rawlins Memorial Maiden Handicap 1500 metres
Desert Sundown – Trainer J Edwards was fined $100 under AR65(1) for failing to produce the thoroughbred identity card for the gelding. Stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground. Raced in restricted room some distance and was eased approaching the 800m.
Darcie Girl – Rider reported that in his opinion the mare failed to run out the 1500m of todays event and failed to respond when placed under pressure from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Doubles Choice – Steadied when momentarily placed in restricted room near the 200m.
Bulla Bulla – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
Ice Elite – Raced in restricted room for some distance approaching the 800m.
From The Gong – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
Race 5: TAB BM62 Handicap 1200 metres
Grandioso – After being caught wide in the early stages was ridden forward by its rider to obtain the leading position near the 900m and as a result raced further forward than anticipated.
Sir Piccolo – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
Krameric – Began awkwardly losing ground. Rider G Walters was fined $400 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, 4 more than permitted. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful that this was his first offence under this rule.
Mother's Day – Began awkwardly.
Falvey's Spirit – Laid out under pressure in the home straight proving difficult to ride out.
Our Rocky – Raced ungenerously in the early stages whilst being restrained. Raced four wide without cover throughout.
Race 6: Colleen Burgess Memorial 0 - 55 Handicap 1100 metres
Birchip Turf – Raced three wide with cover for the majority.
Loveson – Tightened for room at the start.
Chelsea Reign – Raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained approaching and passing the 800m.
Live Music – Stood flat footed at the start and lost ground. Raced wide from the 800m.
Big Wig – Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn.
The Old Bird (Nz) – Slow to begin. Steadied to avoid heels near the 800m.
Vanderwink (Nz) – Raced three wide without cover for the majority.
Very Soon – Began awkwardly.
Blazing Ash – Tightened for room at the start. Raced in restricted room near the 800m and was eased.
Petite Elle – Raced three wide with cover for the majority.
Race 7: Johnny Barbierato Memorial BM55 Handicap 1350 metres
Native Bee – Improved performance queried. Trainer D Rideout advised that gelding appreciated the drop in class today and also the rise to 1350m. He further added that the gelding had been working well and that he expected a forward performance.
Test Of War – Rider P Hamblin was fined $400 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful that this was his seventh offence under this rule.
Our Rockin' – Declared a late scratching at 2:25pm due to transport difficulties.
Gratsie – Slow to begin.
Fearless Queen – Tightened for room at the start.
Mindan Spirit – Tightened for room at the start.
