GENERAL
 
As App. A Thompson was not riding at the meeting and Jockey B Newport was serving a term of suspension, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards Summary.
 
Jockey S Fawke was fined $200 under the provisions of AR232(b) in that he did fail to follow the official direction to seek permission to ride overweight by the prescribed time.
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting-
 
Race 3- STRADONE LADY- G Steele- +1kg.
Rac4 4- MISTER WARD- G Steele- +1kg.
Race 5- EASY COME- G Walters- +1/2kg.
Race 7- SHEINDLIN- S Fawke- +1/2kg.
Race 8- CARLTON STAR- G Walters- +1kg.
Race 8- KING BART- S Fawke- +1/2kg.
 
Race 1: TAB Maiden Handicap 800 metres
 
GOOMBAY SMASH- App. J McGrath had her license suspended for a period of 8 days for using her whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m, with the period of suspension to commence at midnight 12.02.22 and to expire at midnight 20.02.22
 
I AM FEARLESS - Began very awkwardly making heavy contact with another runner. Hung out during the middle stages and near the 500m was forced to steady from heels. Held up approaching the home turn. Trainer G Richardson explained that as the horse was having its first start for his stable, he was unable to explain its prior poor performances. Mr Richardson did however advise that upon arrival at this stable the horse had been very unruly and difficult to handle. He advised that through training methods to improve its behaviour, it had commenced improving in its trackwork and its final 2 gallops in preparation for today’s event had been impressive and based on this had expected an improved performance. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
TUANAKI CREEK- Hung out during the middle stages.
 
AGRO AGAIN- Improved onto heels and was shifted to the inside to secure clear running near the 100m.
 
ALSANTA- Bumped heavily on jumping by another runner. Steadied from heels rounding the home turn.
 
HOME OWNER- Slow to begin and then failed to muster early speed.
 
 
Race 2: TAB Maiden Plate 1500 metres
 
GUTS 'N' GLORY- Laid out from the 600m.
 
PUSHKIN- Began awkwardly.
 
VAIN LUKE- Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority.
 
LOUVRE LIL- Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.
 
BABY RUN- Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 3: TAB QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
DAZZLING FLASH- Declared a late scratching by order of the Stewards at 8:12am. Trainer T Sears was fined $200 for failing to scratch the gelding by the prescribed time.  
 
HOLY CHARIOT- Shifted out abruptly shortly after the start. For some distance in the early stages hung in despite the efforts of its rider. Steadied to avoid the heels of another runner leaving the 800m. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
PRINCE SHUVEE- Near the 900m was placed in restricted room and eased when racing to the inside ZIPJAK which shifted in after being taken in by HOLY CHARIOT which hung in despite the efforts of its rider. Forced inwards near the 250m by THAT’S A MIRACLE (W Peel) which shifted in abruptly to improve. App. Peel the rider of THAT’S A MIRACLE was advised to exercise more care.
 
THAT'S A MIRACLE- Slow to begin. Raced greenly in the home straight proving difficult to ride out.

MISS SEATTLE- Raced greenly in the home straight.
 
WITCH DAY- Steadied near the 1000m when placed in restricted room.
 
STRADONE LADY- Began awkwardly and then failed to muster early speed.
 
ZIPJAK- Laid out for the majority. Raced greenly in the home straight proving difficult to ride out.
 
 
Race 4: TAB RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1100 metres
 
SHOTGUN SOCKS- Steadied when awkwardly placed at heels approaching the 600m.
 
TISANI EMPEROR- Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SISTER ELLIE- Laid out from the 500m.
 
MY BOY DRAGON- Steadied to avoid the heels of the riderless horse near the 800m.
 
CLICKETY CLICKS- Blundered badly on jumping resulting in App. J Cornish being dislodged. App. Cornish was uninjured in this incident and was able to complete her remaining engagements.
 
DREAMALINA- Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
 
Race 5: SCOTT HUTCHISON MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 65 Handicap
1100 metres
 
PENASQUITO- When asked to comment on the below market expectation performance of the gelding, App. Z Sprie advised that the gelding raced flat today, however beyond this was unable to explain the performance. A post-race Veterinary examination of the gelding revealed some minor muscle soreness across the hindquarters however no other abnormalities were detected.
 
EASY COME- Tightened for room at the start. Raced 4 wide for the majority. Near the 600m was steadied to avoid heels whilst laying in.
 
JELLISHOT- Improved onto heels near the 500m and was steadied.
 
PENNYWORTH- Tightened for room at the start. Near the 1000m was steadied to avoid the heels of LADY MELBA which shifted in when not completely clear. Raced 3 wide for the majority.
 
Race 6: STEVE CLARKE MEMORIAL Class 3 Handicap 1500 metres
 
MILITARY KINGS- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
RIP CITY- Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 7: TAB Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1350 metres
 
ROSIE RED SHOES- Bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide for the majority.
 
BUFFALO GIRL- Began awkwardly.
 
SPLASHING ROSSA- Began awkwardly.
 
LEMON LOVER- Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
SET TO GO WELL- Bumped shortly after the start. Improved onto heels approaching the home turn and shifted wider on the track.
 
SHEINDLIN- Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground.
 
Race 8: HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM COSTELLO Colts, Geldings & Entires
BENCHMARK 55 Han 1350 metres
 
ISSAQUAH- Bumped near the 600m.
 
THE GOLDEN SOUL- Slow to begin. Tightened for room shortly after the start. Shifted out to improve near the 650m and as a result raced in restricted room for a short distance.
 
UNDER ORDERS- Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 800m.
 
BEG ME- Shifted out abruptly shortly after the start.
 
ABOVE THE SKY- Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Tightened for room shortly after the start. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. 
 
TRY TO BE GOOD- Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Bumped and forced wider near the 600m.
