SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Gatton, Tuesday 29 April 2025
 
Race 7 - Jockey C. Bayliss, the rider of TSUKINO pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, and 18 times in totality throughout the event. Jockey C. Bayliss’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, to commence Midnight, Saturday, 10 May 2025 and to expire Midnight, Saturday 17 May 2025. Jockey Bayliss was advised of his rights to an appeal.
 
 
GENERAL
 
When Jockey M. Hellyer was not available due to personal reasons, Stewards permitted replacements as per the Stewards’ Race-day Summary.
 
Trainers M. Hoysted (DUBAWI’S GIRL), V. Heading (GOOD PHILLY) and K.Goldman (INDUITABLY) were all fined $200 under the provisions of LR36(6) for failing to scratch their dual acceptors by the prescribed time.
 

Race 1: PR MEDIA SOLUTIONS QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (800m)

HALFACHANCE – Began awkwardly and bumped. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
HELLO PUNTERS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
NOT TELLING – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
SLEEPY JOE – Steadied near the 600m when MISHANI GLAZE shifted in. Raced keenly on heels for some distance thereafter. Steadied again near the 400m when MISHANI GLAZE shifted in.
 
WORTHY ENUFF – Trainer M. Nolan was reprimanded under the provisions of AR102(a) for failing to lodge a stable return that the horse had been gelded prior to its first start. Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the early part in the home straight. Took the crossing awkwardly after the winning post resulting in Jockey C. Bayliss becoming unbalanced.
 
MISHANI GLAZE – Trainer D Stanbridge was advised a warning would be placed on the filly for being difficult to load. Shifted in when not fully clear of SLEEPY JOE near the 600m, and again near the 400m, which was obliged to steady. Apprentice T. Orr was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
EUPHORIC MISS – Stewards permitted Jockey D. Thornton to be declared the replacement rider when Jockey K. Matheson was to be overweight. Jockey Matheson was subsequently fined $200 under the provisions of AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
 
MISHANI JUSTICE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
NELSONS BAY – Crowded and steadied soon after the start when awkwardly placed on the heels of HALFACHANCE which shifted in.
 
TINKERBELLA – Began awkwardly and bumped. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey H. Richardson reported that the filly would be better suited over further distances, and that she was not overly disappointed in the performance.
 

Race 2: T & G DWAN SUPAFLOATS MAIDEN HANDICAP (800m)
 
TROUBLEATKINGSFORD – Began awkwardly and bumped. Steadied off heels soon after the start.
 
SOUTHAMPTON NICCO – Began awkwardly. Carried wider passing the 600m and crowded.
 
DESERT DAWN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
PIPATINA – Began awkwardly and bumped. Hung out under pressure rounding the home-turn and in the home straight despite the efforts of its rider. Trainer L. Richardson was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s record for its racing manners. Apprentice R. Thornton was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(b) to ride his mount out fully to the finish. In assessing the matter, Stewards noted that Apprentice Thorburn’s actions had no tangible effect on the placings, however, were of the opinion that his vigor was below the expected standard.
 
ANGENI – Carried wider passing the 600m.
 
PRIVET (NZ) – Bumped and momentarily steadied when forced wider near the 600m.
 
CURIOUS MAGIC – Reared and became cast in the barriers and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 11:59am on veterinary advice. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets placed on CURIOUS MAGIC prior to 11:59am to be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
11 cents in the dollar for the win
18 cents in the dollar for the place on the winner
12 cents in the dollar for second place
 7 cents in the dollar for third place
 
Trainer G. Banks was advised that the gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
LEICA PHERRARI – Began awkwardly and bumped. Shortly after the start commence to hang out forcing BOLD PULSE, ANGENI, and SOUTHHAMPTON NICO wider resulting in PRIVET being bumped and momentarily steadied near the 600m. Apprentice J. Williams advised that the filly was inclined to race greenly throughout the early stages, however once balanced, finished off the event well over the concluding stages.
 
BOLD PULSE – Carried wider passing the 600m and crowded.
 

Race 3: WARWICK CREDIT UNION CUP 11 OCTOBER RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP (800m)

BUCKALTIUS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BOLD RANSOM – Dipped on jumping and was subsequently slow to begin. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
GOODES – Bumped near the 600m. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
MISS DE BLAAS – Apprentice C. Krahnen was reprimanded under the provisions of AR106 for failing to ensure the trainer was given the correct saddlecloth number after weighing out. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
AYE EYE BOOM – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
BOOMING FAST – Began awkwardly and bumped. Trainer L. Derecourt advised that the gelding lost a hind plate in running.
 
MR MIDNIGHT - Began awkwardly and bumped.
 
ARTOPIA – Crowded for some distance pass the 600m and bumped. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey N. Tomizawa advised that the mare is better suited when able to lead and dictate in its events which is unable to do so on this occasion. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 

Race 4: THINK FENCING QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1200m)
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey A. Allen to view footage of the home straight. Once both Jockey Allen and Stewards were similarly satisfied that there were no grounds for objections, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.
 
BLANTONS RUN – Bumped on jumping. Held up for clear running for some distance approaching the 300m when attempting a doubtful run between the running rail and INDUITABLY.
 
ZHENG YOU – Raced wide throughout. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
LIGHTNING STRIKES – Raced keenly in the early stages. Shifted in under pressure in the early part of the home straight proving difficult to ride out. Bumped leaving the 200m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
ALPINE RAIDER – Bumped on jumping.

JUST WANT YOU BACK – Difficulty obtaining clear running entering until approaching the 200m before shifting wider to obtain clear running.
 
ESPRIT DU JOUR – Momentarily crowded near the 800m when ROCKRATA momentarily shifted in. Held up for clear running entering the home straight when disappointed for a run on the outside of ZHENG YOU when LIGHTNING STRIKES simultaneously shifted in. Bumped leaving the 200m.

ILANA THE FIRST – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
YES I'M UGLY – Carried wider over the concluding stages when LIGHTNING STRIKES laid out. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
ROCKRATA – Bumped approaching the 200m.
 
AKKU – Slow to begin. Rounding the home turn improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Bumped approaching the 200m.
 

Race 5: TOP PADDOCK CATERING BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP (1200m)

CONNEWARRE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Toowoomba on Sunday, 27 April 2025 and was cleared to start.
 
DUNE AND DUSTED – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
ATOMIC SELFIE – Stewards permitted Jockey B. Lerena to be declared the replacement rider when Jockey M. Wishart was dual engaged. Jockey M. Wishart was subsequently reprimanded under the provisions of AR127(1) for being dually engaged and having to subsequently be replaced.
 
LIETUVA – Began awkwardly. Crowded and steadied soon after the start. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
BOVIDAE – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Steadied and shifted out to avoid heels approaching the 100m when LONDON POINT shifted out.
 
LONDON POINT (NZ) – Slow to begin. Jockey A. Allen pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding, in that near the 100m he did permit her mount to shift out when not fully clear of BOVIDAE, which was obliged to restrain and lose its rightful running. Jockey Allen’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, commencing Sunday, 11 May 2025 and to conclude Sunday, 18 May 2025 of which day he may ride. In assessing the matter Stewards considered the degree of interference and carelessness, Jockey Allen’s guilty plea and forthright evidence, as well as his record in relation to the rule. Jockey Allen was advised of his rights to an appeal.
 
MISS MONEYPENNY – Began awkwardly. Jockey D McGillivray was severely reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
 
Race 6: MALY ENGINEERING RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP (1350m)

STILLWELL – Crowded near the 800m when TOO MUCH MAKEUP momentarily shifted in. Shifted out when not fully clear of THEBARBEROFSEVILLE near the 200m which was obliged to steady and shift out. Jockey P. Hamblin was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
LION'S PRIDE – Began awkwardly. Bumped with WHOMSOEVER over the concluding stages.
 
QUEST OF QUESTS – Bumped soon after the start. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
THREE GONGS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
SUPERZOOM – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
THEBARBEROFSEVILLE – Raced keenly passing the 900m. Steadied and shifted out passing the 200m to avoid the heels of STILLWELL.
 
QUADRI (NZ) - Raced keenly passing the 900m.
 
WHOMSONEVER - Bumped soon after the start. Shifted out under pressure and bumped with LION’S PRIDE over the concluding stages.
 
TOO MUCH MAKEUP – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Momentarily shifted in near the 800m crowding STILLWELL. Apprentice T. Orr was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 7: HENTSCHEL PEST MANAGEMENT CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1350m)

AMBASSADORS – Raced wide throughout. Steadied and shifted in crowding PUZZLE DESIGNER approaching the 1200m when BOKUDEN shifted in momentarily.  
 
ARTZINO (NZ) – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost ground. Trainer J. Bruce was advised the gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate to the satisfaction of Stewards’ satisfaction prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
PUZZLE DESIGNER – Momentarily crowded for room near the 1200m. Held-up for clear running rounding the home-turn, shifted out and bumped AMBASSADORS. Shifted in to obtain clear running approaching the 200m and bumped KEITANY.
 
BOKUDEN – Approaching the 1200m allowed his mount to shift in momentarily hampering AMBASSADORS and crowding that runner onto PUZZLE DESIGNER. Apprentice J. Williams was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
PER CAPITA (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
HUSSY EMPRESS – Began awkwardly.
 
KEITANY – Bumped near the 200m when PUZZLE DESIGNER shifted in to obtain clear running.
 
MAPLE DOOR – Raced keenly in the early stages.  
 

Race 8: G I JOE BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1500m)

ROCKY RICH – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
CANAVESE (NZ) - Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
CICADA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Toowoomba on Sunday, 27 April 2025 and was cleared to start.
 
RADEGAST (NZ) – Bumped soon after the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FLASH ZARIZ – Began awkwardly and slow to begin. Approaching the 900m raced keenly onto heels and shifted wider.
 
SHOUTS ALL DAY – Bumped soon after the start. Approaching the 900m raced keenly onto heels and shifted wider.
 
AMNESIA – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey D. Thornton reported that after the mare began only fairly, it failed to travel throughout the event, and in his opinion, may have been over-represented in the market. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
DELORIS – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
STEP ON FIRE – Raced in restricted room for some distance passing the 200m. Held-up for clear running over the concluding stages and subsequently went to the line unable to be fully tested.
 
 
Race 9: PUNT123.BET BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1500m)

BLAME THE WHISKEY – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
CLIPPER SHIP – Shifted out when not fully clear of CHEERFUL CAT which was obliged to steady and shift in to avoid heels. Jockey J. Huxtable was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Steadied and taken out leaving the 50m when ALL ABOUT ARTIE shifted out, and in doing so brushed with TIGON PRINCESS.
 
ALL ABOUT ARTIE – Bumped near the 1300m. Jockey J. Lloyd was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in the leaving the 50m, he did exercise insufficient effort from preventing his mount from shifting out when insufficiently clear of CLIPPER SHIP, which was obliged to steady and taken out to avoid heels, and subsequently lost its rightful running. Jockey Lloyd’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days, commencing Tuesday, 6 May 2025 and to conclude Saturday, 17 May 2025 of which day he may ride. In assessing the matter, Stewards considered the degree of carelessness and interference, his not guilty plea and recent record in relation to the rule. Jockey Lloyd was advised of his rights to an appeal.
 
CHEERFUL CAT – Steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of CLIPPER SHIP leaving the 200m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FEBRUARY (NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Bumped near the 1300m.
 
GRANNY'S REWARD – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Toowoomba on Sunday, 27 April 2025 and was cleared to start. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
BANKSIA BEACH – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Stanley reported that the filly, which was second-up for the preparation would derive significant fitness benefit. Jockey Stanley further added, that in his opinion, that the filly would be better suited over further distances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
TIGON PRINCESS – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Brushed leaving the 50m with CLIPPER SHIP.
 
ACES UP (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
 
Race 10: NUTURF BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (2000m)
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing Jockey J. Murphy (MYGIRLGLADYS) to view the official photo for the declared dead-heat finish for third place between MYGIRLGLADYS and BRAVE BOY. Once both Jockey Murphy and Stewards were satisfied that there was no identifiable margin present, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.

GUARDED OPTIMIST (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages. Crowded and eased over the concluding stages.
 
MAGADAN – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
JUMEIRAH TRIANGLE – Passing the 1600m improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
KENSHIN MARU – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
PRINCETON AWARD – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide in the middle stages in an effort to obtain a leading position. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Thornton advised that the gelding was inclined to race ungenerously throughout the early and middle stages of the event, which proved detrimental to its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
UP AND COMER – Began awkwardly.
 
AROUND THE BUOY (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SEERESS – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
PAPAL MISS – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
BRAVE BOY – Bumped passing the 1600m. Steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of MYGIRLSGLADYS over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration consistent with being galloped on.
 
MYGIRLGLADYS – Raced keenly in the early stages and was momentarily crowded near the 1700m. Shifted out over the concluding stages when not fully clear of BRAVE BOY which was obliged to ease and carried out into the line of GUARDED OPTIMIST. Jockey J. Murphy was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
FIRE AND LIGHT – Laid in and away from heels shortly after the start. Bumped passing the 1600m. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
